Additional information for everyone in terms of sentencing, motive & more. *"Under their federal convictions, Dedmon and Elward each face up to 120 years in prison, plus a life sentence. Opdyke faces up to 100 years; McAlpin, up to 90 years; Hartfield and Middleton, up to 80 years each."* For those questioning the racial element of this case keep in mind that while the officers were torturing the men, they hurled racial slurs at them and *told them to go back to quote, "the other side of the Pearl River."* It is entirely possible the motive didnt include any personal connections but a commentator who works in dispatch in a nearby area wrote *"I can't confirm for certain but I've heard from a couple of officers where I work that the girl was the daughter of a higher ranking officer that wasn't too fond of the idea of his little girl being with a black man.* There's a lot of things I'm not particularly privy to since I work for a state level agency and this happened with a city one. yeah police won't but anyone who's been arrested/convicted due to these officers their attorneys now have cause to reopen their case. Whether they'll get off or not will vary case by case, but their actions can potentially lead to a lot of people getting their sentences reversed. Even if they're actually not innocent. This type of behavior just leads to a waste in tax dollars, a waste in everyone's time and effort and enables real criminals to be back on the street (along with any false convictions).

I was born and raised in Jackson, MS. My dad taught me when I got my driver’s license to stay out of Rankin and Madison County especially at night. He said if I do so happen to pass through to be sure I’m not acting a fool and abide by the law. This shit right here hits home. I’ve never had an issue with the police but what these criminals did to those victims is utterly disgusting.

I studied for a short period in Jackson MS back in the 90's. I befriended a female work colleague, who was college student at Millsaps. My relatives, south of Jackson, advised me not to get involved with her (she was white) because it would get noticed by the wrong kind of whites. She was heartbroken and upset when I called off our budding relationship. But, it's long been known to be VERY careful, if you're a Black man, congregating with a white woman in Mississippi. Especially if she's viewed by Whites as a "good girl." You have a target 🎯 on your back then and now.

💯 % true, military personnel are held to a higher standard of the law, so should police officers. Any government official should be held to higher standards. Every single government employee in the USA has sign paperwork taking an oath to uphold and defend the US Constitution. When they break those oaths they are becoming the domestic enemy's they swear to defend against. Many of these government official's believe they do not swear an oath but it is required by every single person, no matter the job. They could be a janitor and they are still required to sign these oaths. But because the vast majority of people do not read their on-boarding paperwork they have absolutely no idea they signed this oath. So fucking sad, and even worse they would willingly break their oaths or not even understand what they signed. Yet, as citizens the government uses "ignorance of the law, does not protect you from breaking the law." All while government employees break the law daily and absolutely nothing happens to them. So much for a government of the people, for the people, and by the people.

I've seen the opposite. If you search "goon squad mississippi" or 'six officers arrested mississippi" on google, then you'll see that every major news site covered it back in August. This is the exact kind of story that they want to push as it aligns with the narrative they're pushing. These heinous cases don't stay in the public discourse as long though, because everyone agrees that it was bad and that's that. The more morally gray cases keep people interested for longer because different groups keep talking about it/looking up details while they debate it back and forth, and of course the media will continue to give updates to things that people are talking about.

The less time they spend on it and getting it under the rug. The faster the general public forgets. Someth8ng that wasn't as bad as this happened in my city, and the officer got fired. Specifically for stuff like this. 2 Rankin officers actually assaulted (not nearly as violently but not proper conduct of an officer) a close friend of mine seemingly because she was Muslim. They just got put on leave and eventually moved agencies. One actually works for the state agency I work for now and yes has assaulted someone else since he got here but hasn't been fired because we're so short staffed of officers. This reminded me of an eerily similar case of Emmett Till. He was a 14 year old boy who complimented a white woman in Mississippi- but he was from Chicago and a kid and didn't know you didn't do that in Mississippi. So the KKK picked him up from his Uncles house, and drove him to a barn where they beat his entire body so it was unrecognizable. They scalped him, castrated him, broke his face, and tied him to a cotton gin and threw him in the river. Something about this case reminded me of that little boy terrorized and killed by the KKK. Those men were never prosecuted. They had a trial, but it was a staged bull**it trial back in those days and Emmett Tills murderers remained free for the rest of their lives.

@bighorse215 You can own factories in another nation... but as you said, they would have to adhere to the labor laws of the country of origin as well as the country you are building them in... So unless I'm misunderstanding or you unintentionally contradicted yourself in a way you didn't mean, that is that. As for the overall idea... how does that disprove what I said? If you contract out labor to sweatshops, you are screwing your local population of jobs and may be screwing the population of the nation you are going to, depending on how you look at it. You could see it as bringing money into a poor country, but if that is the goal, then you would use your own countries standards. They are doing it purely to save on labor costs and don't seem to care about trying to improve the circumstances even over time. They are leaving that to locals and the local governments to take care of when they could potentially have a bigger impact. This is also shown by them moving their contracts out of China as things started getting more expensive due to a rise in standard of living in part due to this same practice. So I reiterate, I don't see how what you said disproves what I said or removes the meaning behind it.

Instead the mainstream media will usually cover cases instead that are easy to formulate speculation and polarization. They clearly don't care about being a part of the solution but more to sensationalize. The Vauhxx Booker story is another example of very little media attention.

The cops pulled up to him, he voluntarily got in the squad car with them being handcuffed to make it look like he was arrested but he recorded the conversation on his phone. They essentially told him that if he didn’t tell them who did a certain crime they were trying to solve they would make up a story and plant a gun on him. A gun the police already had but not anyone to connect it to. Pretty sure if you search “St Louis man records cops trying to plant gun” you’ll find it.

Another officer patrolling the area, who happened to be black & knew my friend, told the white officer to leave him alone. My friend was in his 30's when he told me this story & said he knows for sure if the other officer had not come by & saw what was going on, he would have gone to jail & it would have probably ended his life! This all happened in California. It's nation-wide. Guess thats what blackmail and threats are for. Those officers are pure evil, but id be more concerned about their immediate superiors/people who hired them. Them pleading guilty, to me, sounds more like they were told "you guys fucked this one up, so you better plead guilty or else we'll be coming for your families." Seems like theres a lot more to this story and someone doesnt want people looking for answers any deeper than at the feet of those 6 officers.

I just got done reading "Corruptible: Who Gets Power and How it Changes Us," by Brian Klaas. In one chapter he speaks at length about the kinds of people who are attracted to the job of police officer. Some of it has to do with how the jobs are marketed, but a lot has to do with how people are. In one case, a police department in Alaska ended up hiring several ex-cons. Even the chief was an ex-con. You can imagine what type of "justice" these guys laid out to the public under their care.
