As a Floridian, I can tell you Sheriff Judd is absolutely beloved down here. Fantastic Sheriff. He also does more to combat child predation and human trafficking than I’ve seen just about anywhere else- and humiliates the perpetrators just like this. Regularly. He’s not a fabricated image- the dude doesn’t F around. Great guy.

I love him. I'm originally from south Tampa and I live in Wyoming now. I don't need to tell you that he was on the evening news almost every night doing these things! I'm 2,000 miles away and I'm STILL seeing him on KZread!

You forgot to watch the rest of it. He not only terminated the deputies, he also initiated a full audit on every interaction and arrest for each deputy from the beginning of their tenure. If anything between the three of them that is out of place, it is more charges. He's also very transparent too.

@@danielescobar7618 I will admit that this Sheriff appears to be one of the good guys. He walks the walk, and he has taken bad deputies to prosecution. However, not all Sheriff’s are the same. The man who was just elected Sheriff in our County just happens to have been a Detective on my town’s Police Department about 9 years ago. I remember very clearly the day when he discharged his firearm at a Honda Civic carrying unarmed civilians which he believed were in possession of narcotics of some kind. Luckily because I live about 1500 feet from the next state’s border via a beautiful covered bridge so the Police Officers from the town across the border actually two different towns reported to the call as “back up”. They reported to to my town’s Police Chief that this Detective had fired upon civilians who were unarmed. The Detective then tried to say that these civilians tried to run him down with their vehicle. Absolutely none of that happened, and the Detective was ultimately fired. In the 2016 election cycle the former Detective decided to run for a seat on the Select Board. He clearly had a good platform and what harm could he do there, no guns involved. By this past midterm election cycle he decided to run for County Sheriff and he won! He then came forward with the idea that the Sheriff and Deputies should take a more active role in policing the county. The role of the Sheriff’s Department here is basically answering questions working at the courthouses and delivering paperwork such as subpoenas, Restraining Orders, Eviction Orders, etc. Thankfully our Police Department and the other Police Departments in the County told him that would be happening because it wasn’t necessary. So old Mr. Itchy Trigger Finger got shut down!

Sherrif Grady is the best! He goes up to the podium shows the criminals faces, and tells it step by step what they did, how they did it, and how the investigation went. Very transparent and he is absolutely the best Sheriff in the US!

This Sheriff is anti-body camera and anti-transparency. His press conferences are a show. He is the equivalent of a tent show preacher. This show is so he can control the narrative. Never do you see dash cam or body cam footage of an incident he is narrating. He literally stands on a podium and tells a story. Only fools believe this man is telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

Doesn’t surprise me. A cop stole $600 dollars from me when I was 16. I was on my way to give a down payment on a car this guy was selling. The guy said, he would hold the car for me until the weekend, when my mother was off work and she could then finish the transaction then. On my way to the guys house a cop stopped me, harassed me, and confiscated my money saying, if I wanted the money back, I had to bring a parent and my paycheck stubs to police station, and prove I worked for the money…My mother was furious, and took me to the police station with my paycheck stubs. The cop lied. He denied searching me and taking my money. I worked and saved for months so I could buy myself a car. It still pisses me off.

I LOVE this damn Sheriff! His dry ass SHADE is too real - and HILARIOUS (at times).

Violation of Oath of Office (when an officer breaks the law) carries a penalty of 10 years federal time where I'm at. The crime may be minor but they could still face an entire decade of time just for breaking the law.

This demonstrates the difference between two type of local forces. 1. A Chief of Police, with a supervising Commissioner/Mayor. 2. A Sheriff that is voted in or out depending on the quality of their service and supervision. A mayor would never allow a Police chief speak so openly unless the crime occurred under the previous administration.

If we participate more locally by going to city council meeting and other events of that nature, the political machinations will be much more awkward with so many eye's on them. It's as simple as going once a year. If one out of 100 people did that it would be standing room only. The interest would force newspapers, radio, and TV to actually cover local news like they did in the early days of TV.

@@johnowen483 Yeah, better trained local and federal agencies and higher training standards are necessary. It would also help if people gave more of a crap indeed, but its not only that. The laws that protect policing agencies from lawsuits need to go and we need separate prosecuting offices who specialize in such cases and are not part of local crime cases or associated with a department in question in any form or way. And we need to have separate entities investigating when internal conflicts show up instead of self investigation. There is no point in training someone to uphold a position of higher power when they can shun their responsibilities due to there being no repercussions when engaging in faulty behavior.

Sheriff Grady is always a savage in his press meetings. Dude is the model every law enforcement officer at all levels should strive to be more like.

When I was in boot one of the first things I was told was: "Honesty before accuracy and consistency above all else" And one of the unspoken rules about state and federal employment is; you don't make other people complicit. I have rained hellfire down on coworkers that have tried that with me, and that Sheriff did the right thing. It's not so much a matter of the money, hell that is really not a big deal. But gundecking reports and dragging people into it ... they need to go down for that.

Every Sheriff should be on the same page. This Sheriff doesn't play with his constant walk of shame interviews. I love your presentation!

Honestly, you have to have zero tolerance in stuff like this. Not taking care of things at this stage is what leads to the horrible corruption we all hate.

As someone who is moderately conservative and definitely been on cops side of most encounters, i never thought about the lack of immediate accountability preach talked about. The next day they may tell their partner “hey that was stupid you could have got yourself in big trouble” but not on the spot and let certain situations get out of control. I have been binging your content and y’all have some good takes and interesting conversations! I wish there were more people on the internet like y’all.

Judging a person by their group association always make you come off as prejudiced, everyone's an individual so judge them individually. I know it's a pain and a lot of the time the stereotype just get proven true, but every once in a while you'll find those people that are crushing it, and they are the best. That might be true when it comes to things like race. But it's not so true when it comes to things like ideology, gang affiliation, etc. You don't get to choose your race but you do get to choose who you associate with. If you call yourself a Nazi, I'm going to judge you as a Nazi. If you call yourself a police officer, I'm going to judge you as a police officer.

Sheriff Judd is awesome. I live in North Florida so I'm not in his area, but if I ever decide to go to central Florida I would want to be in his county. Definitely would love a chance to shake his hand one day and thank him for everything he does and the example he sets.

NYPD has been doing these type of nasty practices for YEARS. I've even had officer's steal my whole wallet including identification. It's nice to see someone actually trying to do something.

I appreciate that you touched on a Truth that I suspect a few law enforcement officials are facing. I understand how uncomfortable it can be to find one's self in a position to blow the whistle on colleagues, but if you've told them how you feel about their illegal and unethical behavior and they continue to do it, they're in the wrong job anyway.

important to note that if they got caught sealing money in any single amount, it likely means this isnt the first time they have stolen from suspects. this is just the first time they got caught

They should be punished at a higher level too, but that goes triple for politicians who create dumb laws that police have to follow.

This is exactly what needs to be normalized to rebuild trust between civilians and law enforcement. Yes, it looks bad when your department houses bad officers. It looks worse when you get caught trying to hide it. So, transparency and holding your officers accountable has much better long term optics. When departments do this, they take steps to heal public opinion and the safety/support they receive from their community. It's better for everyone. Keep it up Sheriff.

Yep. Being a leader in charge of other people, we are responsible for the people we lead - their mistakes become our mistakes and thus ours to address. Taking ownership of an issue, even one we have not caused directly, is absolutely critical in situations like this where trust and reliability is what makes the "relationship" work at all (eg. relationship between civilians and law enforcement)

@@kristianjensen5877 Absolutely. And I understand that it's not a simple or easy task. There are political and financial pressures when people can sue the state for such misconduct. But repair needs to start somewhere. And perhaps knowing that those with such power as law enforcement are being held accountable can start to eradicate the behavior at the source of the broken trust to begin with. And perhaps as people start to have more faith in law enforcement, compliance will make the job officers put their lives on the line for immeasurably easier. Imagine a society where people aren't so hesitant to ask the police for help because they actually believe the police are there to help... or where they don't constantly refuse to communicate or welcome police into their home when they aren't even suspects, they're simply asked to help in an investigation to protect innocent people from getting hurt. It sounds a lot safer and less fearful to me...... if the police prove worthy of that trust. I want that. I assume most people want to not live in fear. Least of all live in fear of people whose job is to protect us.

As i see is better when you expose the bad apples and make them accountable, it shows you trying to fix things, worse is when you hide and pretends nothing ever happens, then you know the institution is rotten. But the worse thing is corruption fought top-down, the sheriff can punish the deputies by example, but when the corruption is higher in hierarchy , a governor, a president, no one will touch them, they are too big to fall. They can even remove people who ask questions.

Whether or not law enforcement agencies and departments take those actions won't matter, because there will always be bad apples, and although holding them accountable will deter further bad behavior and demonstrate good ethics, the only focus will be on the fact that a bad apple existed. I'm not saying that corruption and dishonesty is good, or shouldn't be stopped, but that it won't be recognized by the general public. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think that the situation in the video, made national media. What I'm talking about is something that Bill Maher actually had a good segment on recently, and that is that at least half the battle with disinformation, regardless of the topic, is the consumer. It takes more than just law enforcement agencies and departments to create your little utopian society...

That doesn't invalidate productive measures to work towards those ideals and building trust. And I'm not insane for cheering on such progress. This Sheriff is anti-body camera and anti-transparency. His press conferences are a show. He is the equivalent of a tent show preacher. This show is so he can control the narrative. Never do you see dash cam or body cam footage of an incident he is narrating. He literally stands on a podium and tells a story. Only fools believe this man is telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

I love watching this sheriff, every press conference is an adventure.

This dude is a treasure. Recently he did one of these for a guy who tried to car jack several vehicles.

This is a perfect example of "The cover-up is worse than the crime". Hell, there might not have even been a crime at all, just people being sloppy. At that point, they could have reported they screwed up, taken the penalties, and been better in the future for it. Instead, they tried to hide their mistake and turned it into being dragged on public television and never working in their field again. And good on this Sheriff. Yeah, it almost seems too minor to blast them like this over, but that's the point. If you allow the little things, eventually you start allowing bigger things. Especially in policing, it's critical to show the public that you will drop the hammer when anyone abuses their position.

I used to work as an attorney in Polk County. Although Grady Judd can be really harsh, there is one thing he is definitely not--corrupt. He is as principled as they come and prosecutes both cops and prosecutors who commit crimes.

Dude this happens so much where I live. Everyone knows that if you check into jail with money, it’s gone. People just accept that as a fact, and that’s sad. It might be inconsequential in the big picture, but if every police department operates with this level of accountability and transparency, the world really would be a little bit better.

I remember a year or so ago there was a deputy that was planting meth on people. People lost their kids, an older lady was arrested and put in jail, people lost their homes...ALWAYS record a police interactions. There are affordable body cams people can get, and they can record to "the cloud".

I live in Polk County, FL where Sheriff Judd is and I can tell you he is as stand up a guy as there is. I have had multiple family members arrested by the Polk County Sheriff's Office and they are the most professional and respectful department in Central Florida. I got to say I disagree with Preach's take on cops not checking each other or getting punished for misbehavior. Cops should be held to a higher standard and I believe they definitely are. You saying that there are a ton of cases of misbehavior that don't get reported and handled is like saying most every wife is beating up their husband, it just isn't being reported. It can't be proven or disproven because you say it isn't reported. These cops didn't fuck up by losing the money, though I'm sure they would of been written up and investigated for that. They got arrested and charged because they tried to cover it up. You should watch more of Sheriff Judd's press conferences. He is very entertaining and I especially enjoy when a reporter tries to argue with his putting these criminals on blast for their stupidity.

$700 is a whole check for some people. And then to get arrested for something that most people think is harmless makes it more annoying and unnecessary.

I think the sentiment that "just because he caught these guys just means a lot of smarter ones get away with it" is probably true but a tad unfair in this particular instance. This Sheriff and his office can't bear the burden of every police force everywhere in the U.S. This example should be held up as a gold standard for the under performing police stations, rather than diminishing his accomplishments with speculations and what-aboutisms.

The problem is that the only reasons these guys were caught was because their sheriff wasn't corrupt and they were stupid. It's not unfair to point out that you have to be extremely incompetent to get caught doing this. The fact that doing something like this is so easy to do without getting caught is the real issue. Like, we can appreciate that the sheriff did his job, but we can also recognize it doesn't take much to get away with this either. All they had to do was not acknowledge the money in the report and never talk to the evidence holder and the whole case would've been a he said-she said. With three police officers' word vs a criminal's.

Yeah, I don't think they got arrested for losing the money. They got arrested for losing evidence and not reporting it. The fact that they did not report the loss of evidence turn it into a theft. If they had reported the loss they would have probably been reprimanded and investigated (to see if someone took the money) but that's it.

They’re allowed to cuff and lock up someone in certain situations, etc. They NEED those privileges in order to do their job, fair. Because too many times, it appears they are held to a lower standard and they get away with things the average person would be put in prison for and say they know better than to do that. I think that has way more to do with what your perceptions are, rather than reality. Positive or negative, realistically no civilian has any fucking clue what the day to day of a cop/military person is without doing it. Both are heavily depicted in media, 98% of it is inaccurate and dramatized. Individual experiences do not override macro statistics. It’s statistically impossible for cops to be as bad as they are painted, but also the flipside is just as dramatized.

This is an example of where the leadership and anti-corruption needs to start: the top. I've known quite a few cops and listening to them when their guard is down is way different than when they're on patrol. A lot of times, the municipality or city they work for pushes them to be quiet because the city is worried about being sued. If they admit fault, it's a slam dunk for a lawsuit. There are a lot of politics that go on behind the scene that get in the way of real law enforcement. But when you have a leader at the top who sets this kind of tone, it's better for all of the cops there because they have a clear understanding of what matters which is what the Sheriff laid out at the beginning of the video.

If your boss presses you to do something, a boss who happens to be in the upper escalon of law enforcement, someone who could easily harrass you and your family, you will fall in line. Anti-corruption needs to start from the top so that people below that person in influence will feel more comfortable speaking out about corruption. It will most likely not start from the bottom or middle in the law enforcement heirarchy.

People at the bottom have less power, less power is less say. It really is skewed that heavily. I can embody as much benevolence and archetypal justice as I want. And when they DO, hold them to a high standards and they DO arrest them, it “doesn’t matter, they’re still all crooks because they all wear the same uniform”…. What do you want??? Like really what do you want?? You just want all cops to be disbanded and have no form of public protection??

I remember the first Reddit story about that cop, I wish more cops where like him. He’s one of the few that sees people as people, not a white man or a black man, just a man. Respect.

I feel like its the other way around, majority see people as people instead of black or white. Its only some that are pretty racist or having internalised Racism of some sort. If the majority of officers were racist out of millions of police interactions per year the number of unarmed black men killed by police a year wouldn't be under 50.

You see this is the kind of sheriff that we need in every district.

its not just the fraternity of cops. there's the judges that protect each other. lawyers, doctors, teachers, military, politicians, i mean there is no changing it. i watched a SGT pull his weapon on a private in iraq over losing a card game. he got reshuffled into a different unit, no disciplinary action. all because he was a NCO and it would look bad on the rest of the NCOs.

Well, probably no formal ucmj action, but i cant imagine he lasting beyond his contract either. The military can and has said you either retire/dont reenlist or we prosecute and you lose everything. Its really to avoid embarrassment not not to protect anyone.

@@nunyabisnass1141 this was during OIF3, when people were not enlisting. the military was desperate for bodies. so desperate that we had a mentally handicap kid in one of the scout units. in normal times he would of been rejected. he would talk about hillary duff and wrote songs for hillary duff. during iraq he pulled his weapon on his platoon leader. he was put on suicide watch then sent home a month later.

@@Deathwish777 its been 15 years for me so that sounds accurate. We all had "that one" soldier. Private cant get right or something like that. In my unit we had a guy that bragged about three confirmed kills and assaulting an officer he didnt agree with. He had been demoted back to E5 before joining our unit and even had a bug out bag ready when 9/11 happened. He never got deployed i suspect because he wanted to see combat again...a little too much.

When it comes to cops, the line we should draw in terms of theft needs to be anything more than $0. These people are given authority and are expected to uphold the law, so they should be held to a much higher standard.

Sheriff Grady is the model of what every citizen in the entire of the country hopes to have in their own county. There is NO corruption that goes unpunished, no matter who the parties are. His Internal Affairs department is above reproach. His life is based upon the tenants of the bible. The is active in the community and he possibly knows the names of everyone in his county. The neighboring counties have began to emulate his operation and this has resulted in a great improvement in the People-Police interactions, where the PoPo was once so separated from the people that there was only disrespect and community conflict. Through his transparency, he is now one of the most respected law enforcement officer in Florida and in the immediate surrounding states. To denigrate this man is wrong on so many levels.

I appreciate the point of view. It may be 750, but still, it’s about TRUST, which the police don’t have in the community. How do things start to change? By doing precisely what this sheriff did no matter what. Glad you guys gave this a fair shot. Fellas, Great video. Keep up the excellent work!

It's important for people in power to understand that $723 is a lot of money to the poorest of the people they're meant to protect, too. That's a lot of food, or a good chunk of their month's rent when they might otherwise be struggling to make rent that month.

this is also a great teaching moment for the other deputies. now they know it's better just to cop to a mistake, document it above board, and carry on with your career - than to run around trying to make backroom deals to hide a foul up in the chain of custody. but really, where did the original money go????

When I was a teenager on probation I got pulled over by the police. They searched my car found an ounce of weed,a scale, and a few hundred dollars. They were actually really cool about it and just drove me to my house, didn’t wake up my parents or anything. The next day I went back to my car and there was no weed no scale and no money in my trunk.
