DM Forces PREGNANCY On To DnD Player | r/rpghorrorstories

Ойын-сауық

In today's video of DnD Horror Stories, we have a story about a Dungeons and Dragons player that thinks the game is all about her. Then we have a story about a Dungeon Master that strings a player along for six years, and forces a pregnancy on her character when she said that she didn't want that, then ends the campaign on a sour note.

Had I heard that sentence, I wouldn't even bother to tell the DM and the group I am leaving, I would have ghosted them. Normally I wouldn't do that since I consider it very rude, but considering the whole situation I would certainly not judge anyone for throwing the manners through the window. I am still baffled that OP lasted 6 years! I hope OP is in a better group now.

The last story made me think so much about The Forgotten Paladin, and I feel just as much rage on behalf of the OP here as I did for the Paladin OP of The Forgotten Paladin. No chance to shine in the entirety of the game, neutered by the DM, and probably mocked by the rest of the party, just leaves someone with a massive ulcer in their stomach and a disdain for TTRPGs as a whole, and rightly so

As a male player who plays both female and male characters. I would have no problem leaving because of the under handed bullshit the dm was playing. I get that npcs are crucial to the story but so is the players and it's up to the dm to balance it out which they failed miserably. The fact that one player didn't. The only thing I didn't agree what the op did was lie about their feels to the party and dm. All that did was just reinforce their bizarre story telling. Communication is key if the dm/party can't be reasoned with leave that simple.

First story: There’s giving her leeway because she’s new, and then there’s letting her walk all over you. If someone does something stupid because they’re new to the game and presumably don’t know better, you don’t just let them keep doing it; you politely explain to them why they shouldn’t do it so they’ll know better for next time. I don’t understand how May lasted as long as she did in this game. I would have kicked her if she kept behaving badly after having it explained to her that this wasn’t acceptable. (I would also have given her a hard no on that backstory unless we were starting at a very high level, which this group clearly wasn’t.) Second story: OP, why the heck did you stick with this campaign? I would have left as soon as the DM blew me off when I complained about being sidelined. Even if I stayed through that, I wouldn’t have stuck around for a second season of this nonsense. AND THEN YOU TOLD HIM YOU LIKED HIS IDEA FOR SOMETHING YOU MADE CLEAR EARLIER THAT YOU DIDN’T WANT? Story #1 - Oh, yeah, Red Flags galore. Mary Sue Wannabe, basically, people that test a DM - use of the word "NO" and fully enforcing rules being essential. Thank the ghods she's gone. I have trouble understanding how such people can even exist. Story #2 - I put most of this on the DM for failing to listen to OP's feedback, using such a stupidly random system and for obviously disadvantaging OP compared to the other Players. But there are things that I think are ALL on OP. The DM seemed not very receptive to what she said, but I get the strong impression that OP did not push all that hard, and she really should have. That entire pregnancy thing seems a prime example of this. Instead, OP suffered in silence for six years, until the final straw. She stayed, when she probably should have looked for a better game at least 5 years before. She was (mostly) silent when she should have said something. Loudly. When she did say something, she lied. That DM was insensitive and biased (though the latter MAY have been at least partially unintentional), but one thing he was not was a mind reader.

I wouldn’t call homebrew a red flag. My rule as a DM, ever since my first campaign, is that if someone wants to use homebrew, I have to read and approve it first. Blindly approving homebrew is just asking for an overpowered monster of a character, but some homebrew things can work just fine. In my first campaign, I had a monk with a homebrew subclass, and they weren’t a problem at all. My current campaign has a fighter with a homebrew race, and she’s the opposite of a problem player.

I was playing a 3rd ed campaign where the GM constantly neutered my character. I would come up with combinations of feats and abilities that would get the party out of crazy situations, especially combat, and as a counter he would not only make the encounters tougher he would flat out say the feats didn't work. In particular he hated tactical feats. Tactical feats all required set up and were situational. Instead of not making the situation harder for me to set up he would just say the feat didn't work. So I asked him to let me take another feat if it's never going to work but he said "no you picked the feat so you're stuck with it." He then turned around and made every NPC that we encountered hostile and they all had the feats that he basically banned us from using and they worked perfectly. The same character specialized in two-weapon fighting so he had a dragon place an infliction on her so that one of her arms just flat out didn't work. I figured that it was some sort of curse and since my character also had a pretty high intelligence she multi-classed into Wizard. At 3rd level he cursed her so had a significantly lower chance of learning magic. By the time she was 10th level she was so nerfed that she was practically unplayable. The final straw was when I missed a session and came back to find that my character has been kidnapped, assaulted and managed to escape but due to some time portal shenanigans she was 6 months pregnant. He couldn't understand why packed my bag, ripped up my character sheet and then left. Over the next couple of months most of the other players left and his game collapsed. This guy was a serious piece of work. I took combination of feats to enhance my magic and when he argued that it wouldn't work so we reached out to WOTC for rules clarification. One of the designers actually answered our questions directly on the forums and his response was "He's wrong." The group was like "dude he helped right the rules." His response was "Yeah and he's still wrong." I should have left then but I guess I was a glutton for punishment.

The DM saw this PC as the "hey here's the secret ending" thing. Also knocking the PC out at the BBEG is stupid...but the fucker said they literally dropped the call. I'm the op of this story and yeah, I guess me being weak-willed is true, but I did complain to the dm throughout the campaign multiple times so he knew what I really wanted to happen to my character. I did left the discord call and you know what he come up with to bring me back into the fight? He gave a 9th wish spell to another player, basically yet again my character wasn't going to be the one being cool but the other player and even if I did accept that, that spell is better being used to defeat the BBEG and later ressurect me. The dm did write a good campaign, everyone was having fun and only me and my character were being treated like shit. I know I should've been more aggressive but I had faith in my dm, since he said again and again that he wanted to reedem himself and I saw with my very own eyes how good he can be so there was that. Some people said that the dice gods were being merciful to me and honestly I think that too, if I were to discover in game what he had planned for me right at the end and ONLY at the very end, I would have raged so much. I answered some of the questions on the reddit post.

Doge I notice that too in the dnd AI character app I have. For some reason - if I roleplay with a female character AI and I play a male character - the AI is hellbent on having sex and getting pregnant in 8 out of 10 cases.

felt really bad watching the pregnancy story because i can definitely see myself in that player's situation. had something similar happen to me, so i'll sum it up here if anyone wants to read it- TLDR; i spent 2 years of my life playing in a game where i was less relevant than one-off background characters that would appear every once in a while, just like the person in the main story in this video. had a group of close friends i had played in two campaigns with before, we all knew each other very well and... well, skipping that part, let's just say i was a complete throwaway npc in that campaign. in my first session, i (a sorcerer) was sent against a homebrew monster with antimagic field which not only decided to target me over anyone else in the party in the first round of combat, also petrified me before i could have my turn- so for the rest of my first session, i couldn't do anything. no roleplay, no attacking, no nothing. i didn't get a chance to do even a single turn to show the party what my character was capable of. and, sincerely, it was like that every other session i had in it for another 2 years. in roleplay, no one really cared about my inputs. i could participate in sessions and say/do nothing the entire session and no one would care, nor at least try to interact with me. when i did try it, i was shut down almost every time, or just responded with cold answers. during battles, no one really needed me. our paladin could tank everything, do damage, and heal, whereas our rogue would do the most dps of the group with just a single action, and our fighter also did the same. whenever they needed spells, they just looked over to the paladin aswell, and really the only thing they ever needed of me was the teleport spell to skip descriptions of hours of travels. sincerely, i never felt entitled to having anything handed to me, but feeling "left behind" and "unneccessary" is something i could deeply relate to that person's story, and it's why i decided to vent this out. everyone else seemed to get cool things, traits, development, etc. and even the new player we had later on- a ranger, who got a lot of things and development on their character just in their first month into the game.

How did this get resolved? Did you ever let them know how you felt? Was there any resolution? Did the campaign just end, or did you leave?

@@dorianleakey i ended having to leave the group due to a drama with the dm and the players out of game (aside from the paladin, we still play together to this day in much better games) but its all good. if you wanna know a resolution, the ranger and rogue basically made a couple through the game (a red flag by itself) and broke up a year later. from what i know the campaign fell apart after i left, and they never ended up reaching the climax. thankfully, due to being forced to leave the group, i was able to cut these people from my life and actually enjoy other campaigns with better people now.

Story 2 is frustrating, because it's like, defend yourself at least once while things are happening please? If you never stand up and say that you don't like something then you have no right to complain. We aren't the ones who need to hear this, your dungeon master is.complaining after the fact isn't helpful. You have to call the person out at the table. Maybe the op thinks they defended themselves, but I don't see it at all.
