In today's episode of Dungeons and Dragons Horror Stories, we have a tale of a player that wants to be a creep and look in a woman's bath but doesn't like the outcome, A story of a furry who has really cringey rules for a game and then proceeds to bring that creepiness into another DM's game, and finally a tale of how one little joke caused a DM to turn the simp meter up to 11.

    As someone who is on in years (in the eyes of youngsters on the internet) I have a blase reaction to casual nudity. Like one of those "Hrm if it was that kind of party I wouldn't have dressed up so fancy" kind of reactions while I clown the person otherwise. My gaming time is somewhat limited, would rather not waste it on nonsense.

    Yeah a lot of these horror stories boil down to people not being able to control their impulses or apologize for losing control of them. If someone does something nutty, you know what, most of us are a little weird or we wouldn't be in this hobby. Most of us are 'strangers in a strange land' in 'normal' life. It's the not being able to say 'oops' and then correct one's actions in the name of empathy and logic that's the problem. If someone can't do that, that's when I 'nope' out.

    I'm currently also playing a female kitsune character, but she's right on the other end of the perv spectrum. I play her as a slightly naive academic who only understands the concept of sex from what she's learnt through reading. I.e. she knows what sex is and its biological purpose, but doesn't know any of the slang, dirty jokes go over her head, etc. (not that sexy situations are a common thing in our group.) I have an arrangement with the group that any time anyone makes a suggestive comment, she makes a Wisdom roll to see if she knows what they're talking about. Hilariously, the dice seem to approve of my character portrayal, as so far in the campaign she's only succeeded on one! And yes, she does wear clothes. I like to draw my characters, and had a lot of fun drawing the constellation patterns on her long coat.

    I am playing a Rabbitfolk in one of my games, but the chances of her actually being sexualized is pretty low, even considering the sheer amount of dirty jokes that come out of the party. I've also go a kitsune character who I go out of my way to play as not a furry and not a pervert. She's a traveling storyteller and writer who woke up one day in an unfamiliar land with fragmented memories. Her entire focus is trying to figure out who she is and where she came from. She isn't against sexual stuff, she just doesn't have time or focus to pursue it. Edit: forgot the point I wanted to say. I had a bad dm who got pissed when I refused to make Izumi a slutty kitsune.

    I ran a character once that was always naked he was a scout rogue, monster slayer ranger multiclass. I remember when I proposed the idea to the DM, and he was clearly questioning my decision. Like in the story, I was an outlander who never had been a part of a larger society and my home village nobody wore clothes. My character would sleep outside as often as he could, although he would be on the ground and not in a tree. Everything ended up being fine when I told the DM that I was running a lizardfolk, so there would be no exterior genitalia on my character and the only way to differentiate between sex would be through coloration and fin colorings. The group really enjoyed him. I'm also in a curse of strahd game right now. Strahd is hitting on one of our characters, but its clearly just to get another spawn. The player and character is gay, so he doesn't mind that "daddy strahd" likes him, and the player is constantly making comments like "i can fix him"😂😂😂. We all have a great time.

    I've said this before on another video that read the Strahd story, and I'm gonna say this again. Strahd should NEVER win in any way except the group's failures. Strahd is a vile, wicked, simpy sack of crap who's being punished by the Dark Powers for it. If Strahd "gets the girl" its because the party did something wrong. Stuff like this crap completely goes against the intention of Strahad and Ravenloft as a whole. I do want to say that I am not against alternate character interpretations... but I feel Strahd is not the best example of how to do it. Strahd is intended to be the classic Vampire of Gothic Horror who puts on a friendly face, but is nothing but evil to the core, and when the mask falls he is a true embodiment of humanity's darkness. If you want a Vampire that isn't like this you're better off making your own than using Strahd. And you can definitely make a vampire who is more than just that, but you have to be careful. To reference Critical Role, one of the best examples of a Vampire that breaks the classic Vampire mold while still being evil is Sylas Briarwood. Evil, vile, dangerous... but loves his wife.

    I'm playing a centaur in a homebrew setting. In the setting Centaurs are more animal than humanoid with fur covering their entire body and more animalistic features on their faces. I personally play mine unclad because she ran with a wild herd until her uncle overthrew her father's rule as head stallion (yes lion king style but uncle was related to her mother) and she was driven from the herd so clothing is a newer concept and shes still getting used to the feeling of it, ie how armor fits and such. The only time I was brought up was early in the game when I was asked what she was wearing but it is very common for animalistic characters to be unclothed so it hasn't come up again. She got a bracelet once and excitedly showed it off to a party member and announced "Look! Clothes!" We also don't allow ERP at our table for all players comfort so we have many different styles of characters in many different styles of dress.

    Me (DM) Situation: undereleveled characters. Had some really good rolls while derailing the story. They found a Red Dragon, where they shouldn't have even come to. They as a group decided to poke a red dragon to wake it up. Dragon wasn't pleased, but I gave them a chance that in exchange for the Rogue of opening the lockbox that the Dragon will leave them be. And he pay them in gold as much as they weigh. After I let rogue unlock it, when he had mediocre dice rolls. (I'm really trying not to kill them, TAKE THE HINT AND GET OUT) Dragon picks him up, throws him around like a paper weight (ANOTHER WARNING, ALSO IT'S A RED DRAGON, HE'S EVIL ALIGNMENT!) Dragon: Unfortunately you weigh nothing to me. Now consider our deal paid off. Now leave, before I change my mind! Rogue: I throw the lockbox in his eye! Me (DM): You wat? Rogue: I throw the lockbox in his eye! He tricked us, so screw him! Wery well... roll initiative. Of course it ended in a TPK. Red Dragon beast stats, their stats... yeah. Good luck.

Thank heavens he's not those creepy perverts that use tabletop RPGs to role-play sick and twisted fantasies onto the players. I have this barbarian dragonborn from far north, but even she understands that even though she's not used to it she still understands that places elsewhere have people typically cover themselves up... Well, I mean, she's also stuck a bit in the mindset of she can dress like the guys from where she is from for certain reasons, but even then they at least have something covering up their crotch. Well, I should also note that I don't do this with just female characters as well. In fact, my most notable example was my druid I played who lived on his own in the woods and only used pants to keep sparks from flying onto his crotch... Well, I should say most notable to my group, probably. XD

    For me, I always follow character creation rules and make them the same level as the party. If not I make them a level or two below depending on how much time they are spending with the group. I also like to make them useful in some way, unintrusive to the party's goals, and cover gaps in party balance. For instance one party I ran a game for was really squishy and needed a tank, so with permission I made a Battle Master DMPC who was trained in cook's tools and knew wilderness survival (everyone was sheltered in some way and there was a lot of travel through uncharted territory). The party latched onto him and dubbed him the "Team Dad" because he was a caretaker at heart. They even did some matchmaking with him and another NPC because "you gave them both such sad backstories and they sound so cute interacting with each other! We just want them to be happy!" 🤣 What did I do to deserve such wholesome players?

    @@pLanetstarBerry Yeah, even though I can't say it would work for every situation, the best template to use for an DMPC is a temporary character in a scripted RPG video game. State ahead of time that they only exist for the purpose of this session because you are covering an apparent gap in your normal PC loadout mechanics wise (like a Rogue to find traps, or a healing-focused Cleric for non-item heals), and then work with the party to maybe homebrew or kitbash a way for them to cover that aspect without you having to semi-directly intervene.

    I want a house rule that states that, _if specified through description of the Character sheet or obvious allusion through character traits to being a furry character,_ the character starts with an HP of 1 and cannot advance HP amounts through levels until either fulfilling a random event requirement to prove they are not _horny_ or transforming into a different form through class abilities or polymorphing potions/spells. This would keep the _hornys_ away... though I don't think it would be an issue in the majority of campaigns.

    What is the criteria for "furry" characters? Is the game going to be unplayable for someone just because they want to be a tabaxi? Any character with a maximum of 1hp wouldn't survive long enough to prove that they aren't horny, anyway. Better to just talk with a player and/or boot them if they propose a character that seems like it's from their magical realm.

  • @Blitzkrieg_Wolf

    @Blitzkrieg_Wolf

    Жыл бұрын

    @@firstnamelastname7244 "Furry" implies an anthropomorphic character that is a non-canon race to the D&D universe or a homebrew race that is used explicitly for creating a character for lewd reasons or that causes too many "distractions" for the rest of the party. This can be interpreted by the group differently depending on who plays and what the DM allows (I stated it was a house rule, therefor it would mainly be something for _my_ campaigns). Usually most campaigns begin slow enough that the 1hp rule won't get you killed outright, allowing just enough time for the party to meta-talk about if the player(s) in question really want to continue with these rules in place and risk dying over wanting to be horn or not. If a player can prove their character is not made to be explicitly horny through several interactions with other party members (DM's judgement withstanding), the rule is interpreted as a curse and is broken once the party and the player in question confirm the validity of the characters intentions, thus giving the character the amount of HP they they rolled at the beginning of character creation. All of this basically is because the kitsune story got me flustered and I wouldn't want to play with a person in my party that explicitly tried to be as horny as possible.

    I've had the same thoughts. I have played some of the D&D video games, so I am familiar with the system and lore, although since most of these are older games, this means that I know the second and third editions better than the current incarnation. I think it would be interesting to try an in-person game. Just before the virus hit, a local meadery tried to set one up, but it never got enough interest, and as far as I know, no recent attempts have been made. I like the idea of this meadery as a venue, as it attracts a good crowd, and I haven't seen anyone get drunk there. I enjoy listening to these stories, but I realize that most games are not going to be train wrecks full of disgusting people. If they were, the popularity of the game would collapse. These stories are useful for learning to recognize red flags. I like how the first story in this video turned out. The DM dealt with the problem just as it started to arise in a matter-of-fact way without getting overly confrontational, and it worked - the "That Guy" rage quit, which is the best possible outcome. If I manage to join a game, I'll clearly explain the red lines that must not be crossed regarding me and my character, and if my limits aren't compatible with the game that people want to play, then it isn't the game for me. Any good DM should strive to understand all of the players' limits. This doesn't mean that the DM has to respect every potential player's limits, but it does mean that the DM should give proper warning to players whose limits are not compatible with the game. Once agreed upon, people's boundaries must be strictly respected going forward. Any good DM will be prepared to enforce this. I would suggest to you and anyone else in a similar position to think long and hard about what you are and are not willing to put up with, explain your limits when you join a game, and be prepared to enforce your limits, potentially by getting up and leaving for good the moment a red line is crossed. Ideally, you would join a game at the beginning and the DM would have a Session Zero where everyone has the opportunity to discuss these matters and come to an agreement, but if you join in the middle, any good DM should be willing to discuss your boundaries and use this information to determine whether or not you are a good fit for the pre-existing rules of the game.

    I had a situation similar to story 1 many years ago, with a character doing something without thought for the consequences. I was running the campaign in a home brew setting, and I had stated at the start of the campaign, that real world medieval laws applied. After several sessions there was a big battle, where the party helped save a village from an orc attack, where the orcs had heavily out numbered both the characters and the villagers combined. After the battle the villagers threw a party to celebrate the victory, with lots of food and drink. Late that night the party's mage declares that she is going to try to pick the pockets of some of the villagers and soldiers who have fallen asleep in tavern. I immediately remind the player that 1) their character does not have the required skills and therefore will be attempting the skills un-skilled. 2) there are still some people awake in the tavern 3) there are people asleep on the floor, which will make moving around the tavern difficult 4) the penalties for theft under medieval law Despite all this, the character insisted on attempting it, then proceeded to fail the stealth roll, followed be failing the pick pocket roll, then also failing a roll to run out of the tavern without treading on and tripping over people. The mage was caught, thrown in jail for the rest of the night. The next morning the local lord held court and judged the case. The character was judged, found guilty and branded on the forehead as a thief (this imposed a 1d6 permanent penalty to Appearance / Charisma). She was also warned that a second offence would result in the loss of a hand. The worst of it was that the person she had attempted to pick-pocket only had a hand-full of copper pieces on them. The player actually took things well and continued to play with us for many more years. Where she did, occasionally, have characters attempt to steal things, they always had the skills to do so and were a lot more careful in assessing the situation and weighing up the risk.
