Edgy Incel RUINS DnD - DnD Horror Stories

Ойын-сауық

In today's episode of Dungeons and Dragons Horror Stories, we have 3 tales of players making decisions so stupid, that you'll feel better about your past gaming mistakes. First, we have a story about a player attacking an NPC way above his level, then a tale of an incel taking out his frustrations in game, and finally a gamble in a Star Wars RPG that doesn't go well.

...In a Warhammer campaign I accidentally cut off a NPC's arm (my character was trying to stop a brawl). My character wasn't a fighter - he was a medic, and a damn good one if I can say so myself. What impressed the other NPCs wasn't the fact that he cut off the arm - it was the fact that he actually SURGICALLY REATTACHED IT! (it was a ridiculously good roll) He ended up being field medic for a troop of Sigmarites for a while. I guess the GM decided that the troop commander thought that, in a world where deadly wounds and amputations aren't all that uncommon, having someone that can actually put a limb back in place wouldn't hurt...

@@NeoVault_ Eh, it didn't end that well... my character was the only survivor of the campaign, and it was sheer luck. Then again, I was the only player of the original team that reached the end... (no, the GM didn't kill the other characters - mostly -, they simply bailed after one, two session tops. Our team roster changed more often than the passengers of a bus during rush hour)

First Story: Even in video game logic, there are some fights you're not meant to win, or at least you can't win them at lvl 1. If the Rogue was going to go all murderhobo, he could have at least waited until he was of a suitable level to challenge the other mercenary. Second Story: Yeah, that campaign should have ended much sooner, but yeah, it can be hard to end a campaign when you're having fun and it suddenly gets a bad turn. Third Story: yeah, the Mrlissi player should have tried to get a better read of the room, but I can see why a newbie can get the wrong message.

First story: There’s really nothing to say here except that that rogue is a dumbass. Second story: I, like OP, am amazed that this guy lasted as long as he did. Third story: See, as the DM, I would have had a talk with both the mryssi and the smuggler. The mryssi would have been told that I don’t allow PVP, and the smuggler would have been told not to exclude the other PCs. Communication-it’s helpful.

Ash Williams after seeing his friends get possessed and killed in horrible ways opting to chainsaw off his own hand lest he becomes lost himself.... and then you got this guy who just casually chops his arm off to prove some kind of point... ehh guess it's just as good a reason as that legend of that guy who chopped off his own hand to technically win a race for the rights to own the province of Ulster

A campaign I was running several years back, we all had a discussion prior to starting about what was and was not allowed, expectations, etc. Everything was going along just fine until the player group being led by an NPC into an old warehouse with a secret entrance in the floor opposite the regular door entrance. One party member made a bad roll and alerted the guards who started to rush into the room and take up positions throughout checking for what, or who, made the noise. A player asked (and this is the absolute truth): "the guard by the door, where is he at?" Another game I was a player in (I was running a halfling and a tohr-kreen) were traveling north to investigate something (snow, winter, there was a githyanke...a tower, I forgot what the party was supposed to do because I quit shortly after we ended up in the castle). Since I was new to this campaign, I was to choose 3 items from the magical items list in the DMG. I chose a magic carpet, a ring of wishes and an amulet of the planes. Everyone in the room chided me, "put the ring back, choose something else, you don't know the DM or how he will twist your wishes into something that will backfire on the entire party." I responded with: "relax, I know what I'm doing." They said: "oh really? Then why the magic carpet if we're going into a magically dead area?" To which I said: "because you don't have to feed a carpet, but horses, like what all of you are riding...to the far north...where there is no grass or hay or oats...put it all together now." Anyways, first encounter...was a tarasque (illusion but we all failed our perception rolls). As the image of a 50' unstoppable eating/stomping/clawing/crushing/biting monster was driving my fellow characters into the ground like tent stakes, Borf (my halfling) was flying around pulling animals out of his bag of holding indiscriminately as fast as he could, only stopping when the bad refused to provide animals. Anyways, the DM's wife looked at me and said (with anger in her voice): "if only someone had a ring of wishes *AHEM*. I said: "you're right! DM, I wish for a potted apple tree. Big enough to bear fruit but small enough to fit on my carpet." The game came to a stop at that point as the sound of 7 jaws hitting the floor all at once.

That first story reminds me of my first time on the alliance back when wow retail was the only thing and no expansions were out. I tried a night elf and 2 "bros" were in the starter cave, telling me they deserved the loot more than me, because they were in a party but arrived late. I didn't mind it but they kept whispering to me insults as if I was new. I explained I was a horde main but they didn't believe it. Anyway I continued levelling and I got to lvl 10 and decided finish off some quests before leaving the starting tree hub island. Turns out they only just got there because "all the enemies were jsut too strong". They were in an area full of lvl 8-10 enemies and they only just got to lvl 5 and conviently forgot about me after 1-2 days. Didn't realise until their ex-party member met me and told me that "they kept running into enemies headfirst without upgrading their gear or doing any quests". -.-

On the arm cutting/torture story i hate to say it but that might still be required, Zone of truth makes anyone who fails the save tell the truth yes, but it doesn't force them to talk, in fact the spell clearly states that a target can refuse to speak or even avoid answering the questions so just casting it isn't the end all be all

Story 1: I'll say this, Never been a fan of doing NPCs-PCs. Player levels shouldn't be given to possible allie/enemy NPCs unless they have a reason to have them or they need them. The rogue is an idiot yes, but the DM doing that with level 12s feels petty tbh, like a last minute Edit to screw him over even harder. Story 2: WTF (don't have much of a comment) Story 3: Ok so, I can see the side of the smuggler. You make a character that is built around having their ship, flying from point to point and messing around. Then, two randoms join in, running from the police. Now an easy way to get them in, is to have a very intense chase sequence or an alert that sounds like it may need them. Plus, if people know what a Jedi is, failed or not, he was in the right to roll for perception even if he didn't see it. The shooting though...I can't defend that. Still though, his actions up until then made some sense. I still think the DM should've done the bare minimum and avoided interparty conflict this early in the game. Oh well, C'est la vie

In a regulated atmosphere like AL, sure, but you have rules and regulations surrounding that. For a random (likely homebrew) game with no true cohesion, I think the most any store should do is "highly encourage inclusion" when it comes to inviting random people.

I get having people stronger than the party in the group, I do it all the time in my games too, but such a blatant power gap is a bit of a red flag IMO. i have learned in my life that taking relationship advice from a girl is like asking a cow what is the best way to grill beef

@@liangshanlun5142 ok so, if you were to ask a cow wehat is the best way to grill beef the cow would try to convince you to not eat beef. So the joke and how it is irl is asking a girl how to get a girl is counter productive because she will never actually help you or give useful advice. Just try to trick you into focusing on the girls best interests not your own. understand?

@@ghost7685 I can't relate, because in my experience, most girls love the chance to help matchmake and are very supportive. Also, normally the girl's best interests should align with yours- surely you're looking for a healthy, positive relationship? Probably helps to not compare girls to cows or meat, for the record. Maybe you should get some new friends?
