  You need to add aquatic plants not just water lilies to establish a hiding place for minnows and also you need to add minnows and wait a few months for them to establish same with the plants after 3 months you need to add a few juvenile predatory fish ( bass , gar etc ) at most 4 not exceeding that so they all can establish a population that’s how you introduce animals into a pond

  Most animals do enjoy being petted, it seems to be somewhat hardwired. It's so rare in nature that when they associate humans with petting, they actively seek it out.
