Ducks Love Duckweed!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

In this video, I bring duckweed to my five pet mallard ducks which i hatched from eggs. They devoured every piece of duckweed and really seemed to enjoy it.
Thanks for watching!

I'm so thankful that the majority of your fish are fine!!! I felt so bad for you/your ponds after your first update explaining about the water turkeys, so to hear that the situation is not as bad as you thought is absolutely wonderful! I'll be wishing for lots of rain for you, and the survival of some of your future plants!!!

A cool but possibly annoying perk about duckweed is that it’ll grow insanely fast in a pond if you put a decent amount in it.

Might that be a good thing if it keeps the duckies away from other plants? It might even help protect the fish a bit. I guess the Fish Whisperer will have to be the judge of that. I have no idea.

Duckweed is really helpful at reducing water loss from evaporation and limiting algae growth as well as being a good food source for pond fish and waterfowl. Chickens also like it and it also good to add to compost. I actually keep some of it year round in my aquarium and add it to my pond in the spring. Buying a small batch of duckweed was the best $7 I ever spent. XD

I'm glad you get to see such things, even if it's only online. Obviously, I love nature videos, too, but I'm also lucky in real life. I live in one of the most beautiful places on the planet and get to spend a great deal of time exploring it. It is not hyperbole to say nature saved my life. Recent studies show we humans _need_ contact with nature. Although watching videos is neat, there seems to be a real need for engaging in person. Can you go to parks? Even a small amount of contact with greenery and scenery can be of immense help. I wish you nothing but happiness.

@@krimativity8526BUT it can destroy lakes or ponds also. I never said it didnt have any benefits Ecological Importance In the wild, duckweed is an important source of food for fish and waterfowl. Duckweed provides a habitat for certain types of frogs and fish. It also maintains the habitat by providing enough shade to keep the growth of oxygen-robbing algae down. Problems Duckweed multiplies rapidly. It may spread from pond to pond on the feathers of waterfowl. When duckweed completely covers a pond, it will block light from reaching other plants that live within the pond which in some cases leads to fish kills.
