    To be honest, I think the name "Gamera" would be the perfect name. Gamera is a giant, flying, fire-breathing, turtle from a Japanese film studio called Daiei and later/currently Kadokawa who's known as the guardian of the universe. His design most recently looks more like a giant snapping turtle, so it would work well.

    As a snapping turtle owner.. I highly recommend getting them as a hatchling. Other then in his aquarium my snapper has been nothing but friendly. Loves to be pet, rubbed like a dog, cuddles with you, is best friends with my cats, and to this day has never bit anyone outside of his aquarium. Yes it takes work. I've held him almost everyday since I've got him. But they can be super awesome pets if worked with from a baby. Otherwise enjoy trying not to get bit if you get them as an older wild turtle. Last little tip, be ready for explosive growth the first year, my boy Winston when from 3/4s of an inch carapace length, to 5 1/2 inches the first year. Good luck!

    A couple of years ago, I helped one cross a busy road between a couple of swamps (Arkansas). He was about the same size as your guy, and I was aware of their speed and the reach of their long necks. I picked him up by his tail, carried him to the other swamp. He thanked me by peeing down my leg. I put him down on the bank and he strolled into the water. They are superturtles!

    You don't have to grab them by the tail, it would be the same as grabbing your spine, carry you around and getting the risk of ending up paralyzed. The way you handle them is from the back of their caparace where the legs are, there's enough room for someone to grab them safely and carry them as long as it is a weight you can manage.

  • @davidsnow2420

    @davidsnow2420

    @@ithilweenshadowsong8151 grabbing by the tail and twirling like a lasso probably wouldn't be a good thing. Hey, I don't know where the nasty back of that carapace has been. Grabbing the tail, gently carrying the snapper, while avoiding speeding semis and that flexible neck is sometimes the best option. But, the next time you rescue a snapper in speeding traffic, tell us how it went. These critters are a lot more hardy than you portray, and the little dude scurried into the water quite nicely when I put him on the bank, moving really fast considering his paralyzed condition.

    I had pet snapping turtles,raised since hatched. Each one had a different personality. I trained one to stand up on his back legs, like a tripod with the long tail being about as strong as the legs in supporting his massive shell after I fed him heavily for several years. I went to an audition for David Letterman’s Stupid Pet Tricks try-outs, back in the day, but I showed him off so much he got tired and wouldn’t move when our turnfor the stage finally came up.

    Once again, so glad your channel is up and running again. I watch every one of your videos. And I'm also glad that you saved that common snapping turtle. I've done that twice before seeing them crawling across busy roads. Also, people think that the alligator snapping turtle is more aggressive than the common snapping turtle and that is not the case. They do get bigger, and they do look fiercer, and they can do more damage if they bite you because they are bigger and stronger. But the common snapping turtle is way more aggressive. You've got to be very careful when you pick them up, just like you did. Job well done, man!

Skids, Skidmore or Skidmark. *Adding the name titles such as; "Mr., Mrs., Ms. or Miss"......well, that is entirely your call Tex. I'm just glad to see that your back to making videos once again, & as a reflection to your character...have NOT strayed from off that beaten path of spreading species awareness to the masses via the use of your own style of wholesome, informative, while @ the same time entertaining, original video content. My uncle had a common snapping turtle basically my whole life, from when I was about 5-6 all the way up until a few years ago when my uncle passed away (I'm 35 now). His name was Brutus and he was given away after my uncle passed. I was really bummed about it cause I would have taken him and kept him had they told me they were trying to get rid of him but I didnt know until he was gone :( I do have a video of me picking him up though cause he was SOOO strong and he could climb on anything it seemed. I went over to my uncles place once and Brutus was just chilling on the platform, it seemed dangerous for him to be up there, like how was he going to get down without falling, so I picked him up and put him back in the pond, he was an absolute unit! So be careful with your new buddy.
