    Catch what you’ll eat and release the rest. The piles of fish people take home and toss in the trash is the reason we get nailed with regulations like this.

    These are made for saltwater fishing. They’re pretty popular for Southern California ocean fishing. The three reels that I see the most are the Shimano tranx, the daiwa Lexa, and more recently, the penn fathom level wind. They’re actually pretty good for the application. This reel had seen a lot of use and was in its last legs. It’s not the reels fault.

  • @AnecdotalPoet
    @AnecdotalPoet14 күн бұрын

    Switch to a Shimano. they are out of Irvine, you could send you a real there and they will service it, a Shimano won’t have this problem lol

  • @artemisadventures1734
    @artemisadventures173414 күн бұрын

    Expensive. I guess worth it though. I do have a tranx 500 on another stick. For some reason, I don’t like the way they feel in my hand. I already got a Penn fathom 400 level wind to replace this reel.

    The thought for me is that you don’t want to add any more knots in your line than you need to. It seems that every time a fish is lost, it’s at the knot (unless the fish chews through the line, prob more likely).

    Wow. So up here near Monterey we can’t fish at all between 20-50 fathoms. That takes out much of the prime rock ledges we have fished for decades. I guess it’s time to let it recover.

  • @artemisadventures1734
    @artemisadventures17342 ай бұрын

    Yeah, that’s a big chunk of area that is shut down. There’s hope though. In southern California there was the cowcod conservation area that shut down a lot of area to fish. It was just opened up…. So, it’s not forever.

    There’s a lot to fish for in the ocean. There’s calico, sand bass, bay bass, and halibut inshore. Plus all the palegics. I have a blast offshore. And, for rockfish, if you go on a sport boat or a 4 pack, they know the rules and all you have to do is show up. I wouldn’t give up so fast…
