Best I’ve caught was a 130lb halibut up in Alaska this year on the small 42 gram lol. I always have a ton of colt snipers in my tackle box

Love this and 1:15 is so great! An 80 or 100 gram Colt Sniper in green or sardine blue are survival lures for sure. They will catch everything, in every ocean. Sink them on straight drops, scope them out and cover the water column, speed jig em, slow jig em, use them as surface irons, troll em… with single hooks, treble hooks, assist hooks… man they are so versatile and just plain work

This is a crazy lure. I learned about this year on an 1.5 day trip. Night bite and my buddy loaned me a coltsniper. Limits of some 50+ lb. Yellowfin.

What UC rod are you using with that Penn torque?

UC RCE700XXH-C 7’ mod-fast I think it’s a great 50lb bait/yoyo stick. It’s pretty fast so I make sure to use 50-100’ of mono top shot to take up some shock

No it’s a torque. I haven’t seen the new fathoms yet. Looking forward to them though.

How do you work them? Are they vertical jigs?

  • @artemisadventures1734

99% of the time I drop them down and wind them up. For rockfish, I bounce them up and down on the bottom. Once in a while I’ll cast them out to a school of foaming fish.

What’s the best way to use one? Do I just cast it out and let it sink? All the way bottom? Or when I cast let it sink for couple seconds or 10 and then reel in? I’m not sure if I just cast a fry and use it at too water? Idk

I would say that there are right times to use them. They aren’t always the perfect choice. When I’m offshore, I’ll let it sink for a minute or two. Out there you’ll never hit the bottom.

Most tackle stores have them. Ask the guys that work there which colors and weights are best for your area. Or, they’re available online. They changed their name. They’re called Shimano Current Sniper now. I still call them colt snipers though…
