My favorite part is getting to see the shots from the wheelhouse. Watching the pros work.

Great video! Biggest learning curve, I learned the hard way on a 4 day bluefin trip on the Intrepid about 7 years ago. J hooks are a no no! I hooked probably 25 fish in the 35-80 range and sawed them off constantly. I have always loved setting the hook. But they way bluefin choke it, circle hooks only now. I very rarely lose bluefin on the circle hooks now, usually it a pulled hook. I got educated real good on the Intrepid trip with only 1 40 pounder to show for a borrowed circle hook. Lol, most other fish are J hooks. Good luck tight lines

I have been on 2 ten days trips for big yellowfin tuna. I had a over 200lb yellowfin tuna at gaff and the hook pulled after 2 hours fight. I totally know heart break like this guy. Tuna fishing is a tough on everyone. Sometimes you get bit and sometimes you don't. That's fishing for you. I agree with the one guy in the comments fish with circle hooks. Circle hooks are the one's we use for big yellowfin tuna.

Did you watch the video where we lost the big one after over three hours fighting it on light line?

This is the 2nd video I watched from you. Very nice all around. What kind of silver penn Torque you were fishing with on your first hook up ? Was it a 40 or 60 ? Thanks

30LD2 with 40 lb I use this for either 40 or 50 depending on what I think I’ll need for the trip

Do they bleed the fish on that boat or do they bleed them in the hold?

  • @artemisadventures1734

I’d say on deck. They bleed them as soon as they come over the rail. On the bigger fish (100 lbs or more), they take out the gills and guts before putting them in the cooler.

I can’t say I’m a gear junkie. I grab good deals second hand or what’s on sale. With that said, I like the Shimano and Phoenix stuff. I have a couple penn torques too.

What setup did you have at night time jigging? Reel and rod specs please.

I’m the wrong guy to ask about tackle. Not much into the gear. I honestly think that any of the new reels rated for 40 lbs of drag or so with 100# plus braid will work. I’m a fan of the Shimano talicas. For the rod, something made for fishing the rail like the Phoenix axis.

Curious how much these trips cost for a full day ?

This was a charter with a limited load so it cost a little extra. They also took some extra money for raffle prizes. I think it was $500 for a day and a half trip. Check out fisherman’s landing, Seaforth landing, H&M, or Point Loma Sportfishing’s website for open party trip prices.

What was the silver reel on the first hookup? Looks butter smooth. Please service that talica! Hearing you reel that in was cringey!

It was a penn torque. Haha, I’m surprised that you’re the first person to comment on that talica. You’re right, the bearings were fried! Check out my other video where we lost a big tuna. That’s when they got shot. The bearings have been replaced and it’s as good as new now. Ready for next season.

Dude the torques drag is way smoother than the talicas, they got a lot more torque too and better ratios. Silver ones also look better imo.

Man that could have been a great video except you had a chest mounted camera. We never see anyone's face. Lots of shots of the back of your reel. Your not alone most people do the same thing.
