If you mean the module gear boxes on the cutter bar, I've never had to replace one. I have replaced the top cap that the hub and turtle bolts too. I looked up on NH parts and it looks like there are left and right modules and they are $365 and $380. Also it looks like the top cap is separate for $263. Check with The Disc Mower Doctor in Ronks Pa. They specialize in disc mowers and other hay equipment. I don't know if something like these would be that significantly different in prices, but last year I got the front half CV PTO shaft from them. NH wanted $2700 and through them the exact same thing was $1500. I believe they also have salvage machines they part out.

It’s a real nice tractor. I tried a 986 just like that but I didn’t like the way it rode. Only tractor I’ve had sorta like that was a 5088 but that shifted on the right side not the left. 88 series seemed to have a better shift set up besides the transmissions being bad. The farmer that I worked for in high school and for a few years after part time bought an 886 that looks like your 986. He had an Oliver 1650 with the over and under transmission(actually it was a Cockshutt that was painted in Oliver colors) that he traded in for the 886 back in the early 90s that he bought from Clymer Farm Supplies. I ran every tractor that he had including a White 2-105. He like many farmers in this area milked cows then quit farming back in 1996 when dozens of farms in Northwest Pa either stopped milking cows or quit farming all together in the mid to late 90s.
