i skipped the crown keepers part of the episodes anyways because i don’t have the time or attention span, so this is my first time hearing about this and it seems strange i loved that one campaign Aabria did with the stoats though and it feels like she isn’t that bad of a DM so much as one that was just heavy-handed with her approach and went about this the wrong way

Your feelings are valid is something I always try to tell people cause there’s always someone that says “I worked XX hours a week, and I made it”. That doesn’t mean it’s right, and not every person has the same coping mechanisms or mental health issues. Wish you the best of luck going forward, love ya content. Quick question I’ve been wondering, does crispy post live plays? I’ve only watched the horror stories

"Ive never physically attacked someone I just want to deny your right to exist and support legislation and positions meant to encourage children to *insert awful self harm*. I just want the same respect as anyone else, only I also want to belittle people, call them liars, assert my religion as superior objective truth, and be allowed to be prejudiced against people I dont like while sticking up for people who are clearly a step away from a terror attack on innocent people. "- The idjit this video was titled after.

Regarding the multiple characters in an encounter: That can be awesome in DCC, but before you run DCC you need to tell players they're playing DCC.

Work is work, no matter how much you love it. Science keeps showing us that working less than "40 hours" a week is actually incredibly helpful for our mental health, but we do love to ignore science when it conflicts with "work ethic". Take care of yourself, burnout is a real threat.

I'm pretty sure in Story 1, the player thought "if I'm bigger, I'll have to fall less until I reach the ground." So, if the average character occupies a 5x5ft space, and it grows 1 size to large (10x10ft), one could assume (correctly or not) that they could just add the extra 5ft downwards from their starting square, meaning they're now 5ft closer to the ground, and would only take 5d6 fall damage for falling 55ft rather than 6d6 for falling 60ft. This means a 20x20ft creature would fall 15ft less, a 60x60ft would fall 55ft less, and so on. But of course, the DM's homebrew fall damage was not properly communicated (and I assume made-up on the spot), so the player was operating off of the wrong information.

In regards recommending classes & such, I *do* think those things can be useful for pre-existing adventure modules. Like Pathfinder 2e Adventure Paths (their modules) have gotten into the habit of putting out sets of both recommended classes as well as classes they recommend you don't play. As a perhaps extreme example, there's an AP called Blood Lords campaign takes place in a nation (Geb) run by undead. As such most healing magic, as it typically harms undead in Pathfinder, are actually illegal and can get you arrested/executed. I would LOVE to know that before I sit down at the table playing a healing focused cleric, just as much as there are a ton of character concepts that won't gel with other campaign conceptually especially when there are other types of healing magics (Bards for example) that aren't illegal there. A DM banning the option for a player to avoid the headache of play (since playing such a cleric could derail Blood Lords FAST) and the DM simply doesn't want that to be the focus of the game (since it's not the point of the module) is valid too imo. Now if it's just the DM being a jerk or something (as it sounds like the DM was in that Amateur railroading experience was) it is not cool and them deciding which class you should play certainly shouldn't be okay.

True facts I think when I do DM my first campaign, part of the player consent form will be the understanding that The DM Will Not Allow Players To Commit Intimiate Assault On Other Players Or NPCs. I Do Not Consent To Participating In That Kind Of Content, And It Is Not Welcome At My Table. Figure putting it right up front makes enforcement easier.

Hear me out. I'm the furthest thing from homophobic I have had a boyfriend, but I like the concept of a cleric where they are like "racist" or "homophobic" but they don't understand it and don't get why everyone is so mad about it, and slowly learn why its bad maybe they change what type of cleric. Maybe they go full send and become a paladin trying to help those who they hurt. Not to the degree this guy did it tho.

In regards to my NPC's, nowadays I have a pretty good idea of who my players are going to like/dislike/stab on sight, but I do remember an NPC in my early days of DM'ing for my group. Bartemus Tendelby, a wandering bard looking for work after he was separated from his troupe. Bartemus popped in around the local tavern every few sessions or so while the party was between levels 2-5, and for the most part would just brag about himself and his musical performances. Well, he ended up tagging along with the party on their first voyage out of town, and he made it as far as one town over before the party had him hogtied, chained to the back of a wagon, and on his way to jail. I had intended for him to be a very likeable NPC, but once the party got rolling I just sat back and laughed as they interrogated and smacked this annoying guy around to their hearts' content

We just made 2 people leave the group. The worst one just did the stupidest shit like immediately going down the stairs immediately following a battle with a doppleganger. Doesnt give us a chance to heal. Barges down the stairs without giving anyone a chance to check for traps. 2 screaming warning spells go off, giving the enemy time to prepare for us. He sees 3 hell hounds on the other side of a door and walks us right into a tpk at lvl 6 i didnt even get a turn and we all died to a lvl 5 cloud kill cast by someone invisible. So we roll new characters and the first thing he does to introduce him self by arguing with another new pc(both rogues in the thieves guild.) The other pc tries to pick pocket our cleric after being warned and then the other one starts stabbing him with a sword and almost kills his new pc right off. Then we go to an inn, the one who tpkd us walks right up to the biggest baddest group in the bar and chanllenges the leader to an arm wrestle. He wins the arm wrestle but is then stabbed. Failed to get out of the grapple and restrained condition then tries to sneak attack while sitting right in the open swearing an ability lets him do that. I read off the ability and no it doesnt. But he just kept arguing and the rest of us were like weve known him 30 secs we wouldnt get involved. He messaged our dm a few days later, still trying to fight with her that shes wrong and keeps changing the rules. The other rogue was asked to not come back as he would often not show up to the game because there was something better to do. Hed also refuse to participate sometimes and the whole situation with those two was frustrating

The reason unfortunately for the heavy skew toward douchebag Paladins is the overlap with Catholic/Christian Crusader of the 'let's go fuck up brown people' variety from history, the grody CHUDbois really REALLY love the class because of its aesthetics. That and the assumption that they will have authority over others, as well as having the backing of a God to... let's call it 'justify' their often VERY out-of-alignment behavior.

Paladin is my favorite class, and one way I try to play it non-problematically is by playing my Paladin as a devout protector rather than a fanatical zealot. If we’re in a dangerous area, my Paladin takes point. If there are innocent bystanders in a fight, he prioritizes protecting them. If there are hostages, he frees them. He’s openly devoted to his god, but he doesn’t try to force anyone else to worship him. The only time he maybe gets a little in-your-face is if another character is a murder hobo or something. I hope that helps as a tip for non-problematic Paladins?

It's pronounced "Kay Tiff" for Caitiff. You did great on your pronunciations. Well done sir. Caitiff are sometimes referred to as the Clanless. They are the outsiders of Vampire the Masquerade. They are usually shunned by the other clans having no standing within the society of the Camarilla. (which, by the way, is a huge disadvantage in the game.) The advantage of playing a Caitiff is you have access to all the disciplines (the vampire powers) without all the disadvantages of a specific clan. So the clans have 3 disciplines that have a lower cost in experience to level up on but all the other disciplines cost a lot more. Caitiff's only disadvantage is being shunned by Vampire society but their cost to level up in disciplines are in between the the clan disciplines and the cost of the outside disciplines.

The group I run roll more nat 1’s than anything you would ever see. At least 4 a session. “Well if you roll 80 times that’s a lot” it’s closer to maybe 40-50 rolls a session - rp heavy - and amount of 20’e at best is 1 per session if that.

The picture was probably inverted to get past social media filters against sharing explicit material. The computer doesn't read it the same way, so it goes through. Interestingly, that also works for people. It's a really common technique for those in trust and safety positions that have to look at awful images of a violent or violently sexual nature as part of their job. By inverting it, they can still view the photo enough to verify what it is (and potentially report it to the appropriate authorities), but it is less likely to cause them trauma just by viewing it.

Very important for everyone to remember. No matter how desperate you are for a game. No D&D is better than toxic D&D. Find another group, even if it takes you months. It's better than the stress of dealing with a toxic personality who rely on the fact that it's hard to have find GM so that they can exert their control issues over you and other players.

"I think he is a min-maxer" No, no what you just described is a cheater. Also the way he ran gave me fucking shivers because it reminded me of my worst experiences, which had a similar DM with a similar policy of 'you can pick characters you've played in my old games back up'. Only that one didn't even average the player levels, so newbies had to come in at level 1, with all the encounters being balanced for the level 10+ characters the old hands played. Plus bonus racism and homophobia as the shit icing on the failure-cake. Guy went to jail for attacking a minority (I assume african american, that was who he had the most disdain for), good riddance.

For the whole "Guns in fantasy" I do three (3) things: 1. It's an emerging technology, with all the issues that implies, so development in piecemeal, and while we are skipping past matchlock to go to flintlock, it's still not something that's fully been embraced by others. 2. It's hella expensive to have a gun. Ammunition costs a bit and it's ammo that I actually make the Player track, rather than arrows and bolts, where I assume that the PC has it. 3. This is on a lore level, not only is the development been piecemeal, but it's extremely isolated. So there's not like this big gunsmith's guild, it's like joe and bob from down the street.

While the DM of the new player should’ve done a better job explaining how to play his class, it sounds like the player is taking o accountability. There are sites where he could access the rules in order to read his class and spells. It sounds like the player did no research of his own and expected the DM to just feed him all he needed. When I was a new player I made sure to learn the vast majority of the rules on my own and only learned the rest through experience and asking questions. No player should think it’s okay to burden everyone else with their ignorance. Not only does it slow down the pace of the game, but it also burdens the DM and other players with teaching you everything you refuse to read on your own.
