Hey! I'm John. I'm a board-certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) practicing emergency medicine.
This KZread channel tries to bridge medicine and those in healthcare with wealth & finance topics. My videos range from investment topics, budgeting, cars, and real estate to contract negotiations and job market saturation. I try to balance these with pre-PA subjects for those interested in becoming a Physician Assistant.
My goal is for you to succeed both professionally and financially. We're on this journey together.

was that an alien in the B-roll?
Hi John, I appreciate the quality and very informative videos as always. I’m finishing up undergrad and starting PA school next June. I’m just curious from your perspective: what are the major benefits of being a PA compared to an MD? More specifically, what are the most influential positives/negatives that have you have noticed &/or directly impacted you in your ER position? I’m currently working as a PCT in a hospital and am hearing many great things about being a PA, and since it’s the route I’m heading I want to be more definitive (closer to 100% although I know that may not be realistic in all cases) in my decision to choose this path over MD since I’ve been having some recent conflicting thoughts
Realizing number 5 causes number 1. A cycle of tips!
So interesting! Do you ever work with PA's in Psychiatry about this? Or know some?
If you work in an ER or have any insights, I'd love for you to share your thoughts
Im a new grad NP. I work in the ER as a nurse. I want to do urgent care as an NP as well. I’m looking for a place where I can get the best training possible and 3 day work week. Most places I’ve seen are only offering a couple of weeks of training. I’d love to find one offering 6-12 months. Where are those?
This was so helpful- thank you!
Yes, PAs are in many occasions plan B for those who do not make it to med school. It is also plan A for those who like the fun of medicine without the hard work and sacrifice, which is just unfair for the rest of us. In the UK up to 50% of applicants have already been rejected from med school, and many of those who graduate as PAs apply to med school afterwards. PA roles should not exist. It’s just a way the system has to save money in expend of patient safety and making doctor’s jobs harder. It’s just unfair.
Thank you for helping, my question is I have completed the faculty of Medicine my uni is unable to send my documents while my evaluation agency can do that how I can order to upload my transcript,
Thanks for not being a boomer who is secretive abt money
What if you already have a bachelors in health sciences in healthcare management is that a good way to go into being a PA?
You’re right. Ima new grad np that started working in urgent care and I had three days of training! They didn’t teach me how to do procedures. I wanna find a training course near me that would show me how. I’m very sad that I don’t get properly trained bc I wanna be really good at my job 😢
Regardless of the profession, there is a universal truth: who gets the job may not be the one who can best do the job, but the one who can best do the interview for the job. Sad but true. I suspect this is true of this type of interview.
A PA program may get 2,000 - 3,000 applicants. They then extend an interview to a couple hundred people for, say, 50 seats. Some have more seats and others have less. Some applicants offered a spot may choose a different school. But the vast majority of applicants are never able to show up to talk about themselves. Many are qualified but the interview is a way to show that off.
I’m so happy I watched this! I just submitted my applications on CASPA for the next cycle and I am SO HAPPY! I feel a sense of urgency to prepare for interviews. This video really helped me get an understanding of what I could expect moving forward and how to stay calm and collected during the process. Thank you thank you! God is always touching on our hearts. As a viewer I appreciate you to help the upcoming PAs.
I love this guys transparency! His honesty! I wish more PA’s where like this. I’m 42 and I just finish getting my prerequisites for PA school. When I was younger I wasn’t delt the best hand. Long story short I was had the chance to go to school and I did. So here I am now working my way to PA.
Good luck man!
Bro I got my PD graduation in India I’m eligible to work as a PA in USA or uk or Canada
Please help bro
I’m your lovely subscriber bro please help
I have a question regarding enp. Do u think it’s better to have enp after fnp ? I am new grad of fnp and looking for a job now
Really good points, especially the area and cost of living. I’m a new grad PA who accepted an ICU job in California, and I’m making 40,000 - 50,000 more a year than any of my classmates, but it’s cause I’m moving to a high cost of living area. Also my current state SUCKS at compensation haha.
looks like a fun time!
Thank you; it was a stellar trip! We are now happily married :)
You should add NP as well to the title to get more views it’s very similar :)
I like so much S5 with this color ❤
The color has grown on me a lot. I talk about the Audi more on my car channel. Thanks for your comment :)
What is the pathway for IMG to work as a physician assistant
Bro that’s it… Jesus man it’s impossible to live out here, I’m gonna have to go to PA school, pass, & take on two PA jobs 😭
Well I feel old… 29 with lots of good ICU experience (6 years as RT), but all the course work & life makes it kinda difficult.
Thank you so much, very informative content!
Started working on application as soon as it opened but didn't realize all the work that would need to go into it. I've had a LOT of jobs over the years and it'll take me forever to put it all into CASPA. Had a mini panic-attack thinking about all I need to get done before the recommended submission date. But like you said, IF I don't get in, there's always next year! Thanks for the encouragement!
Not a video on school but I am interested in becoming a Physician assistant and have to start from nothing at 40. My school I am looking inti is Loma Linda and I have been in contact with them to see if my 14 years as a Psych tech would count as experience and yes it does. I asked if they would accept a degree from WGU and they will so I signed up for the Health science B.S program and it has some of the science courses in it but they are P/F and I was going to take A&P 1 and 2, Chem 1 and 2, and Micro at whatever college I can but will this be seen as repeating a course? I start WGU June 1st and also Biology online that is a prereq for Anatomy at my local college and should not count against me because Biology is not a prereq for Loma Linda just to get me into Anatomy. Will it give a good impression to the school if I get the requirements done fast. I love science and read the PDR and Taber's for fun as well as watch science lectures on KZread so not saying I'm smart only it's fun for me. English is the course I am worried about most as I write what comes to mind without any goal in writing (obviously this illustrates this I know)
Great video - love the approach you’re taking
NP school is easier than PA school- because we nurses already come with the baseline nursing / medical education. We know the medications, the disease processes and intervention already. PA's are coming in with no medical background and have to learn a lot within those 2.5 years.
You need medical experience or exposure to get into PA school. Some Pre-PA students were nurses. Others were medics with thousands of hours of work.
Where is the link you go over your personal statement strengths and weaknesses
What about the name of that locum company?
I make 10k a week
Hey John. Jon here. What do you think is a reasonable per diem rate (central California), Family medicine? A few years of experience. How do you feel about sign on bonuses? Initial offer is $65/hr. It's a new clinic, but with many of the same people as the old clinic (it's a merger). My pros/cons: I've always been willing to cover times that they needed more help (Fridays). People generally get along really well with me. I AM slower because I do spend more time with people. As a clinician, I am probably average. Cheers, brother. Keep killing it.
Hey Jon, $65 sounds way too low. If $70/hr is a fair rate for you and you think it's worthwhile, then go for it. But if you're in Central California and there's an above-average cost of living and state income taxes, I don't really see how you could agree to anything short of somewhere between $80-90/hour if there are no benefits. I've heard those Kaiser nurses are making a killing.
Anesthesiologist Assistants earn much more,
I am confused for the course matter.. I have my bachelor degree in microbiology. Do i need to do the bachelors again for biology chemistry...etc as well?
I think as long your courses are not that old you should be OK. Some PA school requirements could be like you prerequisite courses shouldn't be older than 5 to 10 years old.
@@ashrafeltahir6835 is there any full scholarship scheme in universities for PA?
Thanks for being transparent and very inspiring to me! Awesome!
I'm a bit confused about what I need to do. In 2023, I requested for my transcripts to be sent to CASPA. CASPA just opened 2 days ago, and I've taken more class since then. Do I just continue adding to the Transcript Entry section? Do I have to request for an updated transcript to be sent to CASPA? Also, I have a single class left to take online at a different institution. I don't take that until Fall 2024, how does that work if I want to apply now?
CONGRATULATIONS 🎉🎊🎈🍾
Thank you!
I am considering in getting a stage 1 on my 2021 s5 coupe but I am scared of damaging my injectors/pistons. What are the maintenance routines aside from having them for service?>
I’m 29 with about 5 classes including prereq to raise my gpa from 2.9 will probably retake a class . I’m a personal trainer many certs before I apply to pa school want to do pa for 20 years plus
Hello I love your video !! thank you for this quick question Medical Imaging Assistant work? I work in the MRI, CT, PET, Breast biopsy area and perform IVs, work with the patients, etc.
I don’t understand looking up salaries and the data online. There are tons of job listings for PAs that are well into the upper 100s, but the stats don’t support this… I find this to be the case with lots of professions
How much do you make as an Emergency Medicine PA?
check some of my most recent videos fam
Hey John, love the content! Would love to see you do a video on Anesthesiologist Assistants
2024 applying to PA school. Saved up about 80k to help pay down tuition. Worked as a Medical lab scientist 3.5 years and PCA/CNA for just over a year. If I get into the school I want I can stay with my folks and study at home while going to school full time and pay off at least a good chunk of my student loans so I don’t have too worry about student debt that much.
