Use your PTO

Vacations as a PA are easy to come by. My mindset is work hard and play hard. Much more travel in the works.

Hey John I have found your videos very informative and straightforward. I love the way you explain things so precisely. In what order would you recommend one to study these PA prerequisite subjects: Biology, microbiology, chemistry, genetics, etc, etc. It would be nice to hear from someone whose done it.

I WAS AT THE ROYALTON TOO. I thought it was really nice. Diamond club is worth it especially for the snack bar btw 😂

The Royalton was the BOMB! Definitely going back. Plus, I need more days to venture out and see some of the other areas around Cancún. Admittedly it was the first time there

Just got offered first ER position after working UC for a year... feel like Tom Hanks spotting the ship but we'll see if its a mirage. Just can't take the crazy volumes and lack of support, hopefully ER pans out better - plus its what I've wanted to do for 10+ years. Also just burned all my PTO - going to Aruba... wife is happy lol. Also... I hit the button homie

Yo! Love your channel. I’m a recent PA grad looking to work in EM and was wondering how long should I focus on the job before taking a vaca?

I would maybe work the first 3-6 months without a formal "vacation," but you should definitely take at least one in your first year. Nobody will hold it against you. Vacations and time off reduce burnout, and many people have yearly plans. Vacations also don't have to be expensive if you're grinding on loans or saving for big purchases.

Hey man, does it matter which school i go to for PA

  • @JohnThePA

It matters in the sense that you should find an institution with good clinical rotations, solid faculty, and affordable tuition. Location matters less. "Prestige" matters very little. Getting into a program is the biggest hurdle. Learn as much as you can and then find a job!

Would you ever think about doing a PA reacts video to med school insiders “So you want to be a Physician Assistant?”

I saw the video 2 years ago and made a comment to which nobody responded: It's a very factual video however, it seemed to have a negative slant to it? Being a PA is awesome! I agree, it's not for everyone and it's not a "shortcut" to medical school as the only way to become a Physician is to do your time. Surgery is definitely a specialty where PAs are limited (as stated in the video). But in a specialty like family medicine or psychiatry? The expectations and roles are nearly identical (that's not saying PA = MD, it's saying the day-to-day job becomes similar). The amount of supervision and privileges vary on your supervising doc, hospital, location, and how much experience you bring to the table.

@@JohnThePA very thorough response. I’m currently in the process of applying to PA school in 2024, and after lots of time to think this is definitely a right fit for me personally.
