    The "you sound fine to me" hit home. I had a supervisor say that to me when I was calling out with a respiratory infection years ago. Then he said to get my ass in to work or go to the doctor. Obviously I went to the doctor because our contract states management has to pay for a doctor visit if they request it and we're out 3 days or less. I took my 3 days, went back to work and handed him the bill. He was pissed, but had to pay it. They never learn. 😂

Like people whether you say yes or no if it’s urgent they will still take their time off to do their stuffs, better approving asap after checking accordingly so that everybody can move on 😒 his explanation was so absurd I understood he defo had an ego issue and thought he had some kind of power on people’s life… EWW

I hate even going to the store on a holiday and tell my mom to get her shopping done before then, so as to not bother the workers and indeed, try tonmake their day as easy as possible. One step of maturing as an employee and an adult is learning when to walk out to take care of life circumstances. My friend missed the birth of his first child because our boss wouldn’t let him leave (not in a critical role, we were all sitting around.) I actually blame my friend and not our boss. Because it’s up to you to prioritize what matters now and what will matter years down the road in hindsight. You will get another job. You will make more money. But you will not get back that family time you lost. Learn when to make a time off request a notice and not a request.

    He knew that his SO was giving birth down to the due date. In advance a request couldve been made for PTO or family leave. Its becoming a more recognized benefit coverage for people who have children, birthing, adoption or otherwise. I don't know if it takes immediate effect but 9 months on a new job (if ) y'all just started working there is plenty of time. Assuming your company offers that companies are cheap. Although, it sounds like a priority issue he knew a child was coming which is very costly. It makes sense in the long run. I'm sure he made the right decision for himself.

    Here's the thing, if you do what you're supposed to do, always show up, do your job well, etc...your PTO request will get denied every time because they need you there. They will work you until you break, and then replace you the next day without a second thought. I always encourage the kids I work with to get the best trade-school training or higher education possible so that they don't spend their entire lives at the mercy of people like this.

  • @hobomike6935

    @hobomike6935

    why even issue PTO if they never let you use it? at least at my workplace, the PTO hours accumulate without expiration, so if you gather up 400 or so you didn't get to use they'll just cash all of them in on your end-of-year paycheck so you'll get like $3,000-$8,000 extra dollars (whatever the hours were worth) in addition to whatever you normally worked or overtime worked. (They're really good about trying to give you some or all of your requests so this is somewhat of a rarity in employment.) but these places that "give you" PTO but then it's just wasted because the requests get denied are garbage. that's kinda like stealing from your employee, since that PTO is part of the compensation of working there that they are being forbidden to use. We saw this happen a lot during the pandemic, when people were short-staffed; requests were made to take off, to relieve the constant stress and overburdening, denied, and then earned PTO was lost. I think many people quit in droves because of it.

Then I came in the next day, and the store director brought me into her office and said that it was "irresponsible" to call off. Then I responded with, "Well, why didn't you accept my time off?" She dead ass responded with "Becuase we needed you." I responded with,"Well, I'd do it again because my appointments are more important than one day of work." After that, they never tried to test me with calling me during my days off to come in or making me stay late ever again except if it was from my own team lead who I respected a lot and didn't listen to any other team leads except for them and another team lead that worked at a different department. When I worked for Walmart some 25 years ago, all PTO was automatically denied. When it was denied the associates would then call out. When they terminate you or you quit they have to pay you for your accrued time.

  • @WailingNinja
    @WailingNinja Жыл бұрын

    One of the reasons PTO gets denied is due to "lack of staffing", which typically occurs because the business only wants to hire the bare minimum amount of people to do the work. Having been on the management side of this multiple times, I was constantly hounded over "labor costs", or the amount of money being spent on employees. Even though we typically had few enough people that one person getting sick or injured was enough to screw everything up or force me, the sucker they duped into a salary, to work the shifts. I know the bosses were still getting their big ol' paychecks and bonuses, and the only reason they wouldn't let us hire a couple more people or stop cutting the hours of those who already worked there is because it would hurt their bottom line. Cut bonuses that completely dwarfed the paychecks of the people making just over minimum wage below them. Tldr, PTO can be a nightmare due to corporate greed forcing stores and departments to run with not enough employees to account for people being absent.

    I can't even laugh at this because it's not even false. This isn't a skit, it's just a hidden camera. Guys, this is why Protected PTO was invented. No approval needed! Although, they can still get onto you for using it. For example, I had to leave early twice to see a doctor because I was in so much pain I could barely walk (once turned out to be tendinitis in my foot, the other was sciatica, both definitely caused by work), and I was warned that if I left early again I would be fired on the spot. Motherfucker I can't work! I went to a doctor!

    I was hired on as a manager at XPO Logistics. I found out after I started that they had fired ALL the warehouse supervisors, and all the managers...three of them. I ran shipping, receiving, the office staff, and all the day to day supervision for 240 workers, across three shifts. I immediately hired a night shift supervisor, and had him come in at 8 pm, and work twelve hour shifts. I came in at 6 am, and most days, I stayed to close to midnight. I worked 110 out of 114 days, between 80 and 110 hours a week. Read that again. Early December, my CEO told me that I would have Christmas day off, only, for the next month. Ummm...NOPE. I will say that I was compensated..as they saved a f*ckton of money having me do the work of five people. I dropped my badge on the floor at his feet, and didn't even go back to my office for my lunch. I fully retired then, at age 61. This was five years ago, almost exactly. This facility, XPO Logistics in Bridgeton, Missouri, has gone out of business. Hell yeah.
