The problem isn't the screens or buttons. It's the user experience. If you put feature used very often in a place that you have to click, 3/4 times to reach - that's bad UX. If you have buttons upon buttons to dial in every little thing creating this ugly cluster of buttons and switches that are hard to pick up on - that's bad UX. If a car brings excellent UX, be with buttons or screens, people wouldn't complain so much.

The people who say they prefer buttons, drive old cars and cant afford newer ones with screens. They use the button excuse so people dont find out that theyre poor. They want everyone to think they drive an old car out of preference.

Who is this person you're talking about? Doug? Are there really people taking it that far? The thing you said at the end about what you do want real buttons for, that is what I hear the vast majority of car enthusiasts asking for

Even airplanes have and are making a tremendous revolution. Small planes now can be retrofitted with glass cockpits that largely get rid of all buttons in favor of screens. Below is a link about the evolution of 737 cockpits, which tell the same story. kzread.info/dash/bejne/dmiip5uOm5TKis4.html

Relying on a screen for all functions is also not the way. Screens are less reliable than buttons and certain functions should be limited to buttons. Screens could break or get dead zones. The cost of a new screen or headunit will be thousands. Climate controls, radio, seats, and windows should be left to buttons. Any extra applications could be on a screen.

Tesla has voice commands, so whatever you need can be done through voice command or it’ll take you to the screen where it can be adjusted.

Arguing that cars without screens would look like a pilot's cabin is so stupid. You've reviewed cars from the 90s haven't you? Do those cars have button all the way back on the roof? Did you just forget every other car you've reviewed? This is such a dumb video that misses the entire point.

justr drove a 1993 BMW 850Ci in Argentina. Such an amazingly cool car. Always loved the E31. Suspension's best left in S mode, in K there is a lot of body roll. Automatic is a bit lazy, but that's a 30 year old we're talking about, There is an 850CSi here as well, I will try it later...

Is there an argument to say that screens are unsafe? Distracting whilst on the move? Would you watch Judge Judy (etc) while driving? Not so different is it? They also look awful. That clip of the Tesla interior was inescapably dull. Also, what if the screen fails? You then lose every function the vehicle has to offer!

Most people arent asking to make the horn sound selector a button. They just want basic controls to have buttons. It seems you went out of your way on this one to argue against a position no one is acutally taking.

Consider that many people are wearing gloves/mittens when they get into the vehicle. Also, switches are moving parts so they fail both mechanically and electrically.

Why is it illegal to use your phone, when it's more difficult to use a touch screen in a car. It's cheaper to make screens. Than physical buttons... the screens are good for the "features" but the traditional things, like air-conditioning and audio controls should be buttons... Edit: Turns out I'm on the same page as Doug. But I stiĺl don't understand that it is getting to the point that there's no difference between using your phone and trying to navigate through screens. Admittedly, I love the fact that I can dial phone numbers with the enormous number of buttons in my 15 year old Volvo...compared to the new Hyundai EV...it's probably just me hurtling towards 40, but it's fun...even though the Bluetooth is horrendous. But it has a CD player, amazing sound and the best seats ever, when the transmission dies as it definitely will... I'll remove the seats and turn them into a lounge suite...haha,

There is nothing wrong with wanting a mostly analog car. But I guess Doug gets to decide the "proper" button to screen ratio. As for me, I like a back up camera and GPS. I have no other use for a screen or any of the features inside of it.

They should ease off with screens because the majority of features on modern cars are unneeded toys. They might be interesting to play with for a week or so but after that who bothers? Most people in reality only use the climate controls and the stereo 95% of the time. A clever car manufacturer would be looking to simplify cars/ engines and make them easier to work on. They'd be tapping into a large market of people who'd like that.

I think Doug is just about wrong on every point he made. Ok, heated and ventilated seats and HVAC systems need to be adjusted all the time and physical buttons are necessary. As for everything she mentioned, that could all be done with a knob and a touch pad. The issue with screens: It depends on where the screen is placed. If it easily falls to hand then that is great. If it doesn't fall to your hand then that is an issue. Look at the Model Y and look at the new C-Class. The Model Y I have to reach to use the screen and with the C-Class I don't. The best system of physical buttons and screen was with BMW and Mercedes. The screen falls to your eye level and you use a knob or touch pad to adjust the radio. Even if the C and S Class's you need to look down at the screen to see what you are doing with the HVAC system or what station you are listening to. The auto industry gave us screens without asking us. Like I said, Doug is wrong.

This model I always loved the moon roof translucent feature. Those are magic cup holders. The rims I would see if you could upgrade. It is a shame they didn't give a moon roof up front. On the newer maybachs they don't have the wood for the tables which is a shame. I don't think you can change the rear entertainment system which is sad. One great feature is people not being in awe and it being one of those hidden gems. And listening to the people riding in it they all love it.

I miss my Radio Preset Buttons as well as basic AC Buttons. I went from a 2020 BMW X7 to a 2024 X7, I could not be more disappointed. I miss the Buttons, the PRND, The user friendly interior, they also removed the comfort lock/unlock from the rear doors, removed the Start/stop switch. And worst of all I bought the X7 M60 for the power, I dont want the hybrid. My old X7 will go down as my favorite family car I ever owned or was ever Made.
