The issue of the 4-cylinders is not power. 4Runner's people do not care about power. They care if that engine can arrive to 300K miles without major interventions.

The "concrete bunker" sound absolutely sucks... And I personally hate the aesthetic? I understand why he prefers the 'controlled environment' for filming, but IMO it doesn't 'present well'...
@justinshankle
Ай бұрын
Not worth the control imo, I don't watch nearly as many random reviews anymore because they are less enjoyable. He should build a custom location for filming where he has the control but also better lighting and acoustics. His dungeon is depressing and I can't believe someone as cool as @DougDeMuro would film there.
@jaredbaker5447

@justinshankle it's at his office for cars and bids, he did a tour of it on the cars and bids channel. He could absolutely put up sound deadening and better lights, but doug has never been about high production value. It's funny though, where he films by far has the worst acoustics of the entire office space

As a Jeep Wrangler owner, I really love how much competition and options are entering the space. The Wrangler JL, Bronco, and now this 4Runner are really pushing the offroad DDs to the next level.
2014 4Runner owner here. As of today, I have 326k miles on it and never had a single issue with it, other than the door lock actuators and the air blower. Changed the suspension and the ball bearings once after 250k, so it’s nice and lifted. Bulletproof doesn’t even start to describe this truck.

I've got a 2023 4 Runner and a new Sequoia. Love them both in their own ways. But something tells me the 4 Runner is going to be the one I still have at 300K miles. Just old school tech that simply works. Although, it's never found a gas station it didn't like. :)
aint no damn way you'll be able to find these under 70k. The markup on these is gonna be nuts, 4runners already hold their value real well and I would imagine people are gonna be pretty excited by this redesign.
@DarrickBLee

Yeah. I hope you're wrong. But listening to all of the "improvements," I agree ... the tech alone, coupled with the TRD Pro trim is going to be EXPENSIVE. Might be worth just getting a 5th Gen before they're all gone.

It's sad that dealerships always do markups. Although we bought a 2023 highlander xse for sticker price, and then this year in January a 2024 Tundra platinum for $7000 off the original Sticker, the dealership had, cause it took some negotiating. But I kid you not, both times we drove each vehicle out the same day we purchased. This was my experience with Lia Toyota in Colonie NY

Doug - The power and performance of the drivetrain are NOT the issue with any of Toyota's new lineup. Its the lack of simplicity and question of reliability. Enthusiasts want to be able to fix their car on the side of the road, not be forced to go to a dealer. Doug reminds me of a young Robert Deniro doing a bad Quentin Tarantino impression for some reason.

That turbo 4cyl is actually really good and responsive. The turbo lag is not noticeable

I just hate how every new cars infotainment system is just a TV screen stuck on the dash like an after thought. Older infotainment systems built into the dash were so much better..

Agreed, it's incredibly lazy and does not look good at all. I think at first companies started doing this so they could offer different screen sizes without completely redesigning the dash, but that practice seems to have fallen off in recent years so there's absolutely no excuse for not integrating the better.

good looking suv toyota did a better job redesigning the interior of the 4-runner than the tundra. great review Doug!
Great video, i am really surprised by the contour of the top of the windshield. I instantly thought it looks like the 4th gen roundedness. I think with the 5th gen being more squared up looked better. Still a nice upgrade.
Currently have a 2017 TRD Pro in my family. Wasn’t crazy about the photos I first saw but this color changed my mind.

Still looks like a refreshed 4th gen IMO. I like our 5th Gen better. Especially with some off-roading mods and a rack
I've been looking forward to this new generation for a long time but I'm concerned about the motor. It seems to deliver the power and torque but I'm looking at longevity. I'll definitely sit out the first year since that's where most of the bugs are in a new gen vehicle. I wonder what the it weights and MPG, now that it has a 4cyl turbo ?
Nice video!
I’ve been waiting for this moment 🎉
Lol. I love how you editorialize the styling of the interior. The wording you used at 13:27 actually made me laugh out loud on the train
That'd be awesome at the drive inn movies with the roll down window and radio that detaches.
It's interesting how he just ignores how this is the first time there is power lift gate on the runner
man i love toyota. just got a 2021 tacoma trd pro. gonna have to pick one of these up to add to my toyota collection. ive had a 2006 toyota 4runner since well 2006.

HUGE fan of 4Runners here. Very excited about this new model!
I love that after all these years you still use your old range rover in your logo!
Really glad I picked up a 24 before these came out.
My father owns a 4th gen 4Runner SR5 limited and at 140k it’s great and took it off road and love it ! And love the hidden compartments on the truck too 4Runners have been around forever and it’s still hold the value just stay on top of the maintenance and care and can last you a lifetime thank you for sharing this video for those who are interested in the new 2025 4Runner

4th gens are a totally different vehicle from the 5th and 6th gens. Apples and oranges. It's a disgrace to even see the 4runner label on these things.
I dig the return to the rear windows. And who else loves BUTTONS AND KNOBS in the dash!?!? Thank god Toyota hasn’t changed that

Toyota is just out here killing it in looks and tech! 4Runner (HEV), Land Cruiser (HEV)/GX550 (HEV?), Sequoia (HEV), Tundra (HEV), Tacoma (HEV), GR 86, GR Corolla, GR Supra, RAV4 Prime (PHEV) , Prius Prime (PHEV). Scratches every itch I could think of except for a super car and I couldn't afford that anyway.

Great review. Thank you for putting it up. It looks nice and all. But it is more frosting than cake. I am going to stick with 5th gen.
Love the new 4Runner ! Im sure the new 4 Cylinder engines are going to be good, but man I would love to put in a 3UZ-FE V8 into one of these for the ultimate combo! Modern on the outside but with a super reliable V8 power train! Hmmm..

@brandoncook67, In all honesty the 5th Gen is overrated. This 6th Gen is by far a more attractive vehicle in every conceivable aspect. Firstly, it's faster and much more fuel efficient. The 5th Gen had a Poor gas mileage of 15mpg combined and it was slow.

It's beautiful. I hope they bring the 4.0 V6 back though
Sick🔥🔥
Wish they offered the V6 TT from the Tundra
Couple of things, 3rd row seat is available on the current 2024 4runner, but only in the limited trim. This impacts the height of the floor in the storage area, about 4 inches above the non-3rd row 4runners. The new hybrid models clearly has the same design to house the batteries. Not sure how they are going to fit a 3rd row in the hybrids models, storage space will be hugely impacted. The camera system while off-roading is already a feature in the 2024 model as well.
My next purchase - TRD Pro trim is perfect for me.
Consider this just watched the 4Runner and watched the Land Cruiser yesterday Here in Australia we have NO 4Runners so that might be a reason to keeping the LC and the new LC has a 7 seat option here in Australia might be the reason for the cup holders and usb ports

Looks amazing, but a 4 cylinder turbo is a dealbreaker for me. I understand this is driven by regulations, but of all Toyota models you’d think they’d do anything to retain the proven reliability of an NA V6 in their off-roader

It makes more power and tows 1000 pounds more. That tells you it’s better. Plus the new transmission is a massive improvement. Turbos are such simple technology. Should last 500k easy. Toyota tortured these things to test for longevity. They said it’s a massive improvement.

I’m assuming all of the press was holding onto the agreed official release date. Forbes “accidentally” leaked a couple hours earlier though.
Side profile slightly reminds me of the late 90s Durango. Also looks like it could be a Dodge product from the side as well. Looks good minus fender flares.
Hood struts ❤ come on Toyota make this standard across the board! My 2022 Tacoma hood is so heavy!
