2025 Toyota Trailhunter 4Runner (6th Gen) First Look and Impressions

Is it worth the wait? The 2025 4Runner is here and we got a first look at the all-new redesigned 6th Gen!
The 6th Gen 4Runner has been anticipated for a long time and yes, we think it was very much worth the wait.
Boasting 465 ft. lbs. of torque, 326 horsepower, and a towing capacity of 6,000lbs, with the I-Force Max engine, the new drivetrain is taking power and overall drivability to the next level. An 8-speed transmission, rear locking differential, crawl control, 4x4, and DAC, make this an extremely capable machine.
Join Kurt Williams, Rachelle Croft, and Ryan Connelly as we get explore this fully resigned platform and talk about what we are most excited about. What are your thoughts? #xoverland #4runner #toyota

Why is nobody mentioning the obvious which is the Land Cruiser is retro, the new 4Runner is not at all retro styled. Land Cruiser is is to compete with those who would buy a 4-door Wrangler or Bronco for the retro styling but want Toyota quality and brand image. Whereas, 4Runner is a more youthful spirit targeted vehicle.

I whole heartedly agree. Finally a review that was honest yet not a fan boy take. Plus I’m tired of hearing the complaints of the new 4 cylinder and the reluctance to change. Toyota had no choice but to do this due to emission requirements, and they def did their best to pay homage to previous gen’s which I appreciate

Kurt, Ryan, and Rachelle have probably forgotten more about Toyotas than most people ever know... Rachelle has taken the new Tacoma Trailhunter through some serious dunes and has the background of an accomplished off road racer. The comments about the difference between the Fox and Old Man Emu suspension are probably beyond many influencers. XO has experience with the i-Force Max hybrid in a Sequoia over probably 6,000 km off road in Africa, mostly towing a fuel trailer! Anyone that doesn't trust Toyota's hybrid reliability in these trucks isn't paying attention!

Do we know how the 2400w inventor will work with the new 4Runner? I seen how it would work with the Tacoma. But a common scenario I could see would be pulling an off road camper that has solar/battery and needing additional power due to whatever reason to recharge the onboard power on camper. Would this be something the runner could supplement?

nice review. luv the exterior and interior front. cargo area is a bit sad. cool on the built in air, but very sad it faces inward. how are you supposed to use it with drawers/fridge or any other cargo? would have loved mounts with accessory options instead of molded in cup holders for a missing 3rd row. get the raised bed, but unfortunate loss of height. still buying a standard engine offroad model after 3-4 year update that fixes some of the naggy stuff. really like 33's with no cutting!

Center console cool box availability and I do wish they would've figured out a way to have a completely flat rear area with the second row seats folded flat. It's still not perfectly flat like on my '06 Pathfinder. Also, I've yet to see anybody mention that hook that's below the grab handle on the passenger side that looks perfect for takeout bags to hang from. Also interested in color options. I do hope that desert tan color on the Pro will be available on the Trailhunter. It a perfect color for getting dirty.

Can it accept a full roof rack? Or is there an option for one from the factory? When I have a canoe on my 5th gen it sits really far back as the center of the canoe is behind the center of the roof. Also, how are these four cylinders performing in high torque situations seeing that it's one power stroke per 180 degrees of rotation? I'd have to know the truth of that before considering a 4 cylinder. HP and torque numbers are nice, but am I reving the engine to 5000 rpm for the equal power output that a v6 could do at 3700rpm or a v8 could do at 2500rpm? Serious question here.

Peak power and torque on these turbo vehicles are made at low rpms like 2500 rpm. Plus the hybrid options have instant torque. Just bc it's a 4 cylinder doesn't mean it's gotta be high in rpms to make power. Especially the hybrids.

So why, oh why, did Toyota add air-conditioned seats and a motorized rear tailgate to the 6th gen? Both are redundant added weight and a problem waiting to happen when they fail. I put them in the category of "unless luxe". On a positive note, love the look! Can anyone comment on the additional weight of the hybrid vs the non-hybrid? I couldn't find weight specs.
