    What are your thoughts on pronation during skiing and how do your footbeds reflect that?

  • @PatriotFootbeds
    @PatriotFootbedsКүн бұрын

    Thoughts on pronation? That is a very broad subject, but the foot needs to pronate and supinate when we ski. Most feet when in a regular stance have a certain amount of natural pronatioin, others will be overpronating to a high degree. The key is to provide stability to the rear foot (calcaneus and talus) and help prevent to foot from everting too much. An unstable foot inside a ski boot is the biggest cause of discomfort and fit issues. The Patriot Footbeds provide good support, but still allow the foot to flex which is crucial in having good feel in a boot and not completely restricting foot function. Most full customs are posted too strong with heel stabilisers and end up being worse than no footbed. Most drop-ins do not provide enough support and only offer it along the medial arch. This is why these footbeds have such a high success rate they provide a balance of accomodating a foot into a restrictive ski boot, yet still offer enough platform and comfort for putting a lot of force through your feet.

    I feel like if you get the right boot with the correct fit this should never be a problem. However, beginners or people who dont see a bootfitter 6 times a season could like this. Not all of us ski 160 days a year and I need reminding of that sometimes 😂

  • @PatriotFootbeds

    You couldnt be more wrong. There are so many advantages with the sleeves. Its the same approach as someone wanting to use a Zipfit or do a liquid fit injection. It increases pressure around the heels, instep and ankles. It will take a standard liner and make them feel incredibly locked. A regular liner and footbed alone can't achieve this. Also a very useful tool in many bootfitting situations that I have used with high performance technical skiers, freeriders and weekend warriors. Thinking that the 'correct fit' is just picking the right boot is not a productive way to thiink about bootfittinig. A ski boot is not a static item and you dont just pick the right boot and everything is set.

  • @PatriotFootbeds
    @PatriotFootbeds2 ай бұрын

    The other method would be to point the toe of the boot into your stomach and draw back the liner out towards you. Or if you have a spare set of hands, have someone open the lower overlap which will allow the liner to lift out much easier.

    Just wondering, how long could you technically use liners if you keep adding foam when it’s packed out and replacing that added foam when it’s packed out? Not that I would do this but just curious if you think it’s possible to maintain a good fit with the same liners forever by modifying it

  • @PatriotFootbeds
    @PatriotFootbeds2 ай бұрын

    I think you could gain maybe an extra 50 days out of your liners. The main problem is not just the foam packing out, but also all of the material stretches, loses its structure and the stitching loses tension. So even with more or extra foam the liner doesnt hold up like they used to.

    When you tighten the BOA there are gaps in the plastic, snow gets inside and melts and the liners get wet. In addiction to not being able to get a more defined fit, do not like. Lange RS ridiculous marketing aerodynamics? How about improved fit.

    Ever since BOA was introduce have you ever seen many/any big name skiers using BOA that weren't paid to use it? I don't know of any that use it but I'm sure it may be ''good enough'' that some big name could enticed with enough $$$ to use it.

    I've noticed an unusual trend in jap pow videos lately, or maybe it's just what gets dropped in my feed, but so many of them are 60%+ non-skiing filler...what's up with that?

  • @rickden8362
    @rickden83623 ай бұрын

    I've had Intuition and Zip Fit liners and wouldn't give-up Intuition Powerwrap liners for anything. Zip Fit are VERY boot volume sensitive, even with adjustable filling ability. And my Intuition Powerwraps delivered just as performance as the Zip Fits and the Intuition was WAY more comfortable and warmer and those count big time in helping you perform at a very high level. Now I'm not talking race boot, if you want race boot go foam injection, of course 95+% of the time you'll give-up warmth and comfort for that little bit extra(2-3%) in performance but that's racing. Back in the day, nearly all the club racers I knew that used foam injected boots to race had a second pair of boots/liners for free skiing. Just my 2cents, Cheers.

    Is under the liner better than in it under the footbed? and I got a wrap liner so how would u do the tongue shim?

  • @PatriotFootbeds
    @PatriotFootbeds3 ай бұрын

    For a Volume Reducer, under the liner is usually best so it doesn't alter internal liner fit. And if you have a wrap liner, the tongue shim can be attached to the inner part of the wrap, but I find the Trustraps to be way more effective for the wrap and acheiving a real snug leg fit.

Sizing down sizing down till i can only fit a finger between the shell and my heel and then they still pack out. Trying various foam fitting mods but not under the liner. I tried gamechanger foot beds which were thicker but they were too soft and squishy. Then I noticed sometimes if i put it under the OG footbed then you can feel the edges of the footbed more.

    Hi Craig. I just got my pair.. I have no problem with my snowboard boots. But when I walk to and from the car 5 or 10 minutes ,I can get a lite rubbing on the insides of my heel. This doesn't happen when your foot is straped into the bindings just when walking. These do as Craig said ,it just gives you a slightly snugger heel hold, between your foot and the liner and instantly can tell ,there is no rubbing from the J bars in the liner. I didn't need the J bars that come with them. A extra bonus is the thin sharp String internal lace on the snowboard boots can put a little pressure on the top of your foot and that extra padding from the sleeve took that away also. Just ordered a second pair . Highly recommend. Cheers.

    You mentioned the firm plastic over the top of the tongue as a negative. How do you deal with with a pressure point at the top of the arch? Would cutting out a section of the plastic be an option? I have the LYT 130 and have had some mild discomfort there. Any significant fitting differences between the LYT and Formula? I only did a heat mold on the shell for the LYT and I was suprised how well that worked in itself with my bony navicular.

  • @PatriotFootbeds
    @PatriotFootbeds4 ай бұрын

    Yes, I would usually mold the liners first. If an issue still exists, I would then cut a window in the tongue here and replace and seal with a Sidas ICP foam and tape. The LYT is quite different from the Formula is plastic wall thickness and liner. You might be able to get a good result with less drastic measures in the LYT.

  • @arcangel29gt
    @arcangel29gt4 ай бұрын

    @@PatriotFootbeds Thanks for the reply. At this point I've already got 100 plus hours in the boot so I assume heat molding won't really result in much improvemet. FYI, I did just get the Formula boots and it felt relatively comfy out of the box. I actually didn't feel as much pressure on top of the boot, although I suspect it could feel different after inserting the same footbeds I have in my LYTs.

  • @cratra

    Craig, how are you. My wife (164cm/50kg) has a very narrow tiny foot (22 mondo/22cm) with a decent high arch especially on the right more than the left. She has Lange RS100LV in a 22.5. Her boots feet her well but she has always had pressure on the top of her instep due to her high arches. In the past on her older Dalbello Storms, ESS cut away the inner in the instep pressure areas however that left only a thin layer of foam to protect the instep. Both her lower toes buckles are always as loose as she can have them as she doesn't need any pressure in this area. Just want your expertise, is it worth using the targetted heat mold of the shell on the instep using pads on her feet in the critical pressure spots to lift the height of the boot in this area.

  • @PatriotFootbeds
    @PatriotFootbeds4 ай бұрын

    Hey, yeah going great! You could definitely try this as a first option to see if you can gain improvement. The instep area tends to not mold as easy compared to creating contour in other areas of the boot, simply due to plastic forces fighting against you. Usually with the Lange boots, I would also look to modify the liner, (like what ESS had done in the past) By cutting a window into that tongue, it can really help a lot! But you can replace any foam removed with a softer and more cushioned foam and seal it up again after. (search Sidas ICP kit) That will definitely be the most effective and professional finish. Or you could look to an Intuition liner as an aftermarket choice that can relief this instep pressure.

  • @cratra
    @cratra4 ай бұрын

    @@PatriotFootbeds Craig, thanks for the fast reply and your expertise. I'm fairly good on and have all the tools to do this job. As this area has the shell split at this point, I feel I only have to heat mold and lift the flaps either side of the R&L overlap reshaping the shell to a better elevated position when buckled back up.
