    Talking about authenticity, while starting your video with a phoney “setting up” before getting to the content, and cutting to your cough instead of removing the cough from the video… I know this is a common trend on KZread lately (which annoys me), but completely goes against your claim of authenticity being important to you as a “Gen X’er”.

    I don't think those guys have anything to apologize for. Why should they have to be always under the thumb of youtube and how youtube wants to do things. If I really cared for something I would want to pay for it. Yes some people will drop out that is to be expected. But I would call those people freeloaders and aren't making you money anyways. So ultimately they don't really matter

    You failed with the info on the Ukraine conflict, Ukraine people are getting screwed over. since 2007 nato has done war games in the Black Sea of marines doing beach landings extremely close to the Russian border, nato a “defensive” alliance doing beach landings lol. Putin said he would invade if they tried to join nato and then we know what happened lol Zelensky is a joke and has betrayed his country, got rid of elections, jailed political opponents and journalist that wrote anything negative, and said there won’t be elections until war is over and he expects 10 years of war. The Ukrainian people literally want peace and yet Zelensky said no 3x and passed a law saying he won’t negotiate with Putin. Ukraine has bombed their own people from 2014 to 2022 in the Russia occupied areas then bombed civilian areas with no military presence, when there was military targets a few miles away they could have hit, this backfired tremendously for Uk raine. The Russian people want Putin to escalate the war due to belgorod and he is the one holding them back as he is sworn to defend Russian sovereignty even if that means nuclear war and he would have to if nato, a 32 nation alliance, invaded. Assuming this video is alreast 2 years old as we didn’t know about a lot of the screwed up stuff the Ukraine government was doing, like making fake 911 calls and “conscripting” the EMS personnel. Hope Zelensky gets ousted and the next person agrees to start negotiating. We have made Russia into a super power again, driven Iran, China, North Korea, Russia closer together, Saudi Arabia has dropped the US petrodollar, and estimates have upwards of 500k Ukrainian soldiers (conscripts/forced/volunteers who had good intentions ) dead/ Ukraine Red Cross is asking for donations to help with the 3,000,000 + wounded, all by not negotiating, due to the pride of the administration/politicians and that is not good for US interests. Biden has got to be the worst administration in the history of the US, Ukraine/israel/houthis/china/etc. just insane.

    I am old enough to remember the “latchkey” comment: no, your generation was NOT the first to come home to empty houses, it was completely normal for working class kids since the industrial revolution. But it was the first time that the political/journalist class took notice of it, because women of THEIR class were now working outside the home. Yattering about “latchkey kids” was part of a conservative project during rising unemployment to blame school-leavers for being unemployed and to berate single mothers and working mothers for being employed.

  • @eh1702
    @eh170222 күн бұрын

    All this latchkey stuff is just better-off people discovering how working class kids have livd since the industrial revolution. X notice it because so many of them are the children of boomers and parents of millennials - the first two generations of self-absorbed people raised by indulgent parents. (X, blame yourself for millennials.)

    There’s a reason why one of the top-selling t-shirts has just the words “Hold on, let me overthink this” on it. There are a lot of us. My mom used to tell me, and anyone else who would listen, that I’m never happy unless I’m worrying about something, which is another description of being a severe overthinker. The only thing she was wrong about was that overthinking/worrying doesn’t make me happy at all; it makes me miserable. I hate that I’m hard-wired this way. I can’t think of a time when I missed a big opportunity because of overthinking, but I vividly remember one time a few years ago when I tried to overcome it and just ‘go for it’ that spectacularly backfired. I was hanging out with my closest friends (we’ve been friends since HS and are in our mid-60s now), and one of them asked the group “do you ever have inappropriate thoughts?”. I figured this was a safe space, with my best pals, so I told a story to illustrate a particularly bad judgy thought I had one time (nothing evil, just judgy). And my bestest buds turned on me like I was some hideous monster. So much for just being honest and open. Lesson learned, and I immediately retreated into my overthinking bubble where I’ll live out my days. 😁

    For the record, we didn't used to consider anyone GenX who was born after 1971. Those were already participation trophy, snacks, daycare and after school program, movies being rated differently kids so much so that they were vastly different and we had to teach them things like going outside and being tough enough to walk all day. They sat around playing video games. And, we called htem Gen Y because they asked "Why?" and they "whin"ed all the time, and we wondered why they existed and were such ... female genitalia. No one ever talks about this. They give them a pass and let them be Gen X. But, the cusp of Gen X was 1969-71 and then, yes, some fortunate bleed through happened that allowed some Gen Y to also be Gen Z. Because, why? Because, boomer parents didn't always trust those after school programs. And, they were used to computer, too, in a different way. That whole group of people blended into Millenials, is what happened because many Gen X had children young and those children were very Millenial before the Millenials started. Then, when Millienials had children young, they were Millenials, too. So, that made them a very long and tedious generation, more like generations used to be. Except they did it by stealing all of Gen Y and some of Gen Z's generational time. Millenials did more to harm the earth and the mental state of children than anyone else. Gen Z is the result of that. Boomers are like President Carter was. Just some dude hanging out, wondering why so many people before and after were so darned creepy and irresponsible and he's taking all the blame.

    I come from a long line of Atlantans. In family lore, we hated the carving as, evidently, we spent a lot of time there pre-carving. I too feel a swell of pride, while simultaneously feeling a deep sense of shame, at the laser show...i cant help it. However, the laser show now has a different ending that speaks of now and our future of reconccilation. I do remember being a tiny tiny child and seeing KKK meeting signs in the City of Stone Mountain. I would ask my parents what KKK meant and they would say it was for a disccussion when i was older. My folks were more progressive Southern, like most Atlantans. Also, fun fact, Stone Mountain, the community, now, is filled with largely black folks. The white columned mansion that belonged to the Venable family at one point was home to the black mayor of Stone Mountain. That'll show them! The Venables are the ones that owned Stone Mountain before it became a State Park. Caveat: all this is from memory of family and community lore and could be completely wrong. I haven't verified a thing I've said. Its just how i know it to be.

    Millennial 87'. My twin and I were alway outside until dark, "do you know where your kids are" applied to us. We did not have a computer until 16 so we didn't care about the "chatroom" era. we walked or caught the metro to school, came home to a empty apt because my single mother had to work late hours, we knew how to cook by 5, used encyclopedias, fought bullies, became friends wth bullies, went to school in the snow, had a job babysitting job at 12, got a real job at 16 after school. Recession, recession, 9/11, snipers, killer clowns, rapist, druggies with us outside, finding guns in the woods. It's unfair too keep lumping millennials into this "spoiled, try hard, arrogant narrative. It's BS

    I was was born in the late 70's in Ireland started school in the early 80's in rural Ireland we still had the canine. It was the 80's not the 50's. But for us it was the 1950's with 1980's music and 80's stuff! 3 mile walk to school dragging my 3 dickhead brothers with me and usually fighting with other kids and each other. Yes I can confirm we were feral kids running around the Irish countryside build rafts! and going into old abandoned workhouses. quarries! setting snares and old school poachers tricks if the opportunity a raised. To quote an old English Movie Scum! No room for "Dolly Mixtures" I later joined the British Army (Did Afghan 3 times) I am in my 40's now. I really don't give a fly "F" as I have been there done that and got the t-shirt. However my son thinks he knows it all bless him lol... I smile and let him get on with it!

    Until recently people didnt used to go on about the different generations. Yes there were names for different generations like baby boomers, generation X etc. But recently it seems everyone wants to emphasise the differences between generations. Apart the fact these generation types are really generalised and stereotyped. A lot of people never fitted into these stereotypes. Today its seems everyone has to be described and categorised. There have always been differences, and each generation has had different issues they have had to deal with. Im sure each generation looks down on the new emerging generation and criticise them. It would be better if people of different generations tried to communicate with each other, and understand and help each other.

    I believe it's latch-key because we had a key to get house and or used the latch to keep the door locked until a parent got home. When I started highschool I was told by teachers and guidance councelors that I shouldn't expect to have a 40yr career at one company with a pension. Even with college. It was just part of growing up in a steel town where a lot of people went to work in the plant or surrounding industry.
