I watch all your main channel and TMI, I don't recall you talking about why you still wear glasses. I just assumed you had reasons. When you get older, like late 40s to mid 50s your lenses become harder for your iris muscles to shape. I'm at the point where I wear three different pairs of glasses. And two of them are bi-focals! My lenses are practically glass by now. Next stop: cataracts.

Just hit the downward slope of the 40's, and I appreciate the reminder about Lasik (also remembered it from other vids). My near vision is deteriorating, and I'm learning to just accept it. In automotive terms: aging is a maintenance project - not a restoration. Late-40's solidarity, Joe!
@Ender06 Жыл бұрын
FYI those paint specks can easily be wiped up if you have a damp rag and wipe the surface it right after you roll the wall. Those specks won't transfer to other surfaces after it's fallen the first time. If those specks fall onto carpet, they can be vacuumed up easily. If they fall onto a hard surface, you can use a credit card (or a plastic razor blade/scraper to scrap them up). Those plastic scrapers are great for getting rid of sticker residue too! The specks won't float far from the roller. Like a foot from the wall is about all they will travel, unless you have a fan pointed right at you while you roll the wall (and if that's the case, the specks will dry before they hit the ground/surface and its just like dust to clean up. I do maintenance at hotels and I have to paint / re-paint all the time and always watch out for paint splatter/specks.

Omg Joe, I watch all your videos on the main channel but only found this channel today, and when you talked about the smaller Ikea shelf, I looked and... I have the exact same in my living room! What's crazy is that I didn't notice until you said Ikea! Great and super strong piece of furniture. I have a fish tank on one of the sides that weighs more than 60kg., but the thing is built like a brick dummy, with thick boards, metal to metal bolts and super strong design.

Watching videos of people I can appreciate make me feel that there is a reality where people are rational and intelligent. If we believe Plato, Socrates was a person that people were drawn to for intelligent discussion. I feel like the Content Creators that I gravitate towards are my version of a Socratic experience. Not to sound pitiful, but I have very few close friends, primarily because I can't bring myself to engage in a conservative group-think mentality that is required to 'belong.' My experience in watching Content Creators is obviously one way (except for commenting) but it is good for me to be able to listen to people I can respect. Thanks.

About the paint thing, either use newspapers as drop cloths or an actual drop cloth. Not just plastic sheet. Professionals say this. Use an actual drop cloth so it absorbs the paint. Yes, it costs two or three times more but it's worth it. Also, the problem about rollers is that people don't know how to use them. Rollers should be used slowly. It'll take as much time to use a roller but the job will be better. There will be no brush marks, it'll be a smooth beautiful finish but it'll take just as long as using a paint brush. As far as overfilling the tray...Don't, and, TAKE YOUR TIME. Go slowly. My father taught me this and it would take him a long time but the job did not have to be repeated for a long time because of proper exposure and because he prepared the wall thoroughly before hand (which takes just as long as painting). I bought the house from him and it was repainted 25 years ago and does not need repainting yet. The paint job is perfect and there are zero specs of paint on the carpet and furniture. Also, about the roller, use a good roller (note I don't know what a good roller is, but that is what my dad tells me and he's cheap). So, to recap, paint SLOWLY with the GOOD roller and use lots of newspaper or a drop cloth.

Hey Joe, I always appreciate these TMI videos, and like the way everything came out. Having done some DIY I'd like to recommend 2 things; Paint spots can be scraped off hard surfaces with an old credit card, no harm to the surfaces either. Velcro cable ties are a life saver... grab a handful of wires and wrap a tie tight. You can string 2-3 together to secure the bundle to larger uprights or posts. Thanks for all you do and I wish I could support you more.

For the gold KZread plaque, just move it up a few inches. Once they are not next to each other it may separate the perspective.
@culturecrashAL Жыл бұрын
If your wall plaque alignment issue is ONLY about how they look on camera? Try getting a little piece of foam tape (or two pieces stacked if it's very thin) or one of those self-adhesive felt circles you put on furniture legs and popping it behind the top left corner of the left-hand plaque -- pushing that corner away from the wall a bit might make it appear straight on camera. Eta : tell 'em that's your bowl of POT-POURRI

If you're a little older and considering Lasik I'd recommend looking into monovision where they correct one eye for distance vision and one for close vision. My brother got it and has been very happy with the results. There's definitely an adjustment period where your brain has to acclimatize to the two different prescriptions, but he says after a month you don't notice at all. There's also been advances in actual lens replacement, which can correct the focusing problem in aging eyes so that you have long distance vision but you don't have to wear reading glasses.

I HATE paint rollers. I also had highly textured walls. Best tool was a flat pad, like the kind made for quick edging. You just rub it all over the surface. No taping, no tarps needed. I am a super messy painter, but with the pads, mess is minimal. Changed my life. Painted my whole kitchen in about 15 minutes, so easy to go around cabinets, light switches, tile work ...never going back to brushes and definitely no stupid rollers.

Their projects may go nowhere, or their desires may change over time, and then you're left with an big overhead.

I love your new studio set up and your shows…I binge watched WHILE doing the cleanup of my space by using the Swedish death method. It’s quirky but it worked! My trashmen positively hate me by now but I spent 4 months going through each room methodically so…yeah…long story long it’s awesome! Can’t wait to see all your new content with the new space! 🎉❤
Thanks.
Really enjoy these! Thank you Sir!
I find painting with a brush to be very soothing. You do you, boo 🐶

Wow. The Serious Joe™ lighting is great. I can't say I love the new standard lighting.
Hey thanks for your honest answer about lasik, Joe. I almost got lasik done in 2019, but decided to put it off after some personal research. Now in my late 30s I'm starting to have issues seeing from up close as well and I'm glad I didn't rush with the surgery and I don't think I'll be getting it. And like some others have already commented, you should do more IRL TMI content.
My wife & I had Lens replacement, took about 10 minutes per eye, got up off the table and immediately had 20/20 vi8sion, I 100% recommend it. Thanks for sharing.

Man, I so have to organize my space better too. It is inspiring Joe.
For the gold KZread plaque, just move it up a few inches. Once they are not next to each other it may separate the perspective.
Knowing that is the bathroom door on the Tangent Cam will never not bother me! 😂 🤣
Love ya Joe ❤❤❤

1:09 yeah it can be therapeutic. cleaning/organizing is recommended as a daily practice for mental health. part of a healthy routine.
My mom always says that cleaning up your physical shit, like your space around the house, also cleans up your mind. There's something to it, at least in my experience. Also it feels good in multiple ways.
you're great. one of my favorite youtubers. i love the TMI vids. the thickness of the placards also contribute to them looking crooked. I just know that's part of the reason and it doesn't bother me.
Hey Joe! Love your channel(s) and great work on the updated studio! Question: when are you going to mix up your Displates? I love me some Kepler B, but let's see some of your others! Maybe shoot for some topical ones (like you do with your shirts). Anyway, keep up the good work!

I have a crush on Kim Cattrall to this day thanks to Mannequin. And Martin Short is an international treasure. Great choices for a painting day's movies!
Also, I love the new look.

I really like the new studio! But watch your back! There is Maximilian behind you! 😱
I like what you did with your studio, especially the wood accent wall. The Displate might be a missed opportuniry, you could use it as an easteregg for the answerphiles (changeing it once in a while) or put up some others that relate to the videos.
I hear you about the glasses. I got cataract surgery last year. As a "bonus" they corrected my nearsightedness. Now I can see halfway to Betelgeuse and can't read default fonts on the dam computer. I'm a software dev!
I have this rule whereby I set myself an hour a day when I come home to focus on repairs and maintenance or a project I'm working on. It's not perfect but it helps me feel like I'm keeping up to an extent
I didn't notice the KZread plaques being uneven. But what bugs me for some reason is the led light strip in the corner wall is slightly uneven on the top of frame. I noticed it in the moving video, assumed it would get noticed in a few videos, it's right by the top of your head. But it's still there lol. Love the content.
18:50 Use ceiling fan or automotive wheel balance weights. They are stick-on but just tape to back until you get it right.
Textured walls can be a pain. Mine aren't so bad, but I have to follow up with the brush after the roller. Look into Krud Kutter to remove the paint on your cabinets
Had a friend who got Lazik for her farsightedness while in her 40s, thinking she’d get her nearsightedness corrected later… turns out, you can only have one or the other. She’s not happy. However, I had a boss who had it to correct nearsightedness, when he was 56, & he couldn’t be happier. He wishes he’d had it done a lot sooner.
The crooked play button could be level but not parallel to the wall, maybe the wood paneling happens to line up so there's a bump out on the right side and the left side is lower. Taping a shim behind it on the left side should fix the problem
I love home roasted pumpkin seeds!
Think about what you're thinking about! You got Maximillian back so you're ok again in my book.
love the Serious Joe lighting :D lol my hubs has a bowl of weed like that :D (legal in our state, even recreationally) He uses it for pain management.
The mind organizes it environment. It’s why when you walk into a hotel room and everything is in its place. If you pay attention, there will be a deep exhalation. Anytime you walk into a cluttered room, your thoughts become more disorganized, and it can literally add to symptoms of anxiety and depression. Love to tell you more just ask… Michele

Re LASIK, 23:45, I did LASEK about 15 years ago, reliant on eye drops and every day in pain ever since. Really advise people against.
I think that you tube plaque looks crooked because of the dimensional; wall, you might want to try spacing the far left corner out from the wall to make it look even with the one above it..
Also got Lazik, but did it when I was around 25. Exact same experience - distance vision is not fantastic and close vision is atrocious. Am 42 now and I can just start to tell the close vision is changing. Would do it again, highly recommend.

@@Lethgar_SmithI don’t either 😂😂 I’m so short sighted without my glasses I can’t see anything passed my nose, but when I had my last test a couple of weeks ago I saw a someone new and I was getting very concerned over the length of time he was taking beyond normal. Turns out that with my sight corrected I have better than 20/20 vision and he was trying to narrow that down. 😅 I hate not being able to open my eyes and focus on a clock or be able to tell what bottle I’m picking up in the shower without bringing it right up to my nose (have learnt to decant into colour coded bottles) but I honestly don’t think that it’s worth the risk - that’s if you’re even suitable for it the first place.
That's the "Joe after dark" lighting! :)
Commenting for the algorithm gods 👍🏼
The KZread play button looks crooked because the indirect lighting casts a diagonal shadow across the top side of the plaque. Easy fix could be black tape across the top.
You mentioned before about putting in a mini split unit have you considered connecting with Technology Connections, it’d be a fun crossover
I HATE paint rollers. I also had highly textured walls. Best tool was a flat pad, like the kind made for quick edging. You just rub it all over the surface. No taping, no tarps needed. I am a super messy painter, but with the pads, mess is minimal. Changed my life. Painted my whole kitchen in about 15 minutes, so easy to go around cabinets, light switches, tile work ...never going back to brushes and definitely no stupid rollers.
try adding a little ball of tape behind the youtube sign, by the left side. I think the effect is made because it points a little too much to the wall.
I miss all the tidbits that say something about you or that allow my eyes to wander around the screen while listening to you. I really miss that although at the same time it looks much better as a room as a whole.
Here for Cannabis reference Joe "$nupdawgg" Scott 😂
Now that the studio is finished. Maybe start on Chloe's studio?
You did a great job. End of story.
Currently laughing all I want. Lol love ya Joe!
Are you gonna have an auction for your old cameras? Some people would love to have them! 😊
I understand the paint brush, but they do make them wider than 2" :)
That about cleaning up your space is for real man. I’ve stopped listening to as much of Jordan Peterson since he got all political, but one thing he used to teach is “clean your room.” I’ve done it for years, about to start a deep clean in the next couple of weeks. There is just something about going through and organizing your stuff that is oddly therapeutic.

Innerspace!
12:32 It's very nice of you to consider your other team members, but I would say, if they want to do a thing on their own, they should make their own space (just like you have). Why take it on yourself to have major overhead, even if they were to rent space from you? Their projects may go nowhere, or their desires may change over time, and then you're left with an big overhead.
6:10 this is an easy one... three things... amnt of paint in the roller, 2 the speed at which you are rolling and drop cloth everything... oh, and the depth of the rollers 'nap' ... too much paint, it splatters,.. roll too fast, it splatters, too deep a nap for the srudace? you'll carry too much paint and big splatter... simple way? tape and plastic sheet [or cloth drop cloths] and gover everything you DON'T want paint on... did this [aptmnt turnovers] for yeasr... 1000 sq ft is 5 hours, edged, and two caots as well as cleanup

I'm a handyman, who does a LOT of interior painting for clients, and I almost always do that painting in an occupied residence. Masking things off with tape & paper and not being an absolute klutz by stepping in the roller pan are NOT rocket surgery. I'm not a pro, I'm simply careful and it doesn't require that much time and/or effort. I'm not giving you any slack on this, Joe.
After the wait to see the Zoe painting in the makeover video, why do you put her behind your head on camera? Maybe move her into the empty wall space to left (our left, your right) of you or shift the camera slightly right (because that's so easy) so we can all appreciate her?
See now....I had thoughts that could have formed into a comment about how you didn't use a roller. And as I was about to include them....I said...he probably has a reason why he didn't use a roller. Boy was I spot on. LOL How's the horizontal pile landfill looking these days? 😋 Speaking of things that don't look straight: I swear the tv dinner table next to our recliner in our living room looks crooked on the camera we have in there. It's definitely the slightly fish eye lens distorting it though. Maybe something similar to your KZread plaque.
Rollers can be substituted for "paint pads"
I'm I weird? I never questioned why Joe didn't use a roller. Like Joe says "you do you"
@20:00 Willie Nelson!

I'm trying to imagine why someone would have that much pumpkin seed - just like - out on their desk.
Still want the "organizing with joe" video 😊
Yes, using a roller makes more sense but regardless the wall looks great. F*ck time it doesn't exist anyway! Beautiful Job. Your dogs are so cute. More Phoebe. I love how your peyote buttons are hung. I didn't even notice your giant bowl of pot. I enjoy pepitas also. I love dudes in glasses..... Buddy Holley worship. It's great Joe. More TMI. 𓅂
Okay, you shouldn't have to explain why you didn't use a roller. People are so freaking judgmental. 😅 On the other hand, I think you attract higher emotionally intelligent people, who are more adaptable to change.
Its been 17 years since my lasik (went with optical surgeon instead of a lasik center) and only now is my distance vision starting to get a little worse. My wife had hers done at a lasik center and she needs glasses far more (especially driving), so is there a quality issue involved? i dunno.
Order is ephemeral, chonk is eternal.
