Extra Thoughts On Today's Artemis Video | TMI

Thought I'd try something new on this channel and I recorded a little extra video with my thoughts on the Artemis missions. Let me know if this is something you'd like to see more of!
Also if you haven't seen it yet, here's the video I'm referring to:

Hey Joe, Love your earnest video style and concise presentation skills! I still watch your content even for topics I'm pretty well versed in, because its enjoyable seeing another person with enthusiastic knowledge pitching what they find important. I like the raw TMI content too. As far as your note early in this video as far as creating timely content, just want to offer that you aren't obligated to! I recall you feeling a bit burned out a while back. Glad to be getting your content, and selfishly happy its relevant to current news cycles, but I don't think it's worth forcing if you won't enjoy it. People can get information from wikipedia, but Joe's relaxed & informed presentation of the topic is best served at your best. Thanks for the content, cheers. -long time viewer, infrequent commenter.

Thanks so much for this comment. I means a lot. In regards to being more "timely" it's just because the channel has been struggling algorithmically lately. Hence the experimentation with Shorts as well (VERY reluctantly).

Personally I think it's great that we are heading back to the moon. It makes perfect sense that in preparing for Mars and beyond, it also gives us opportunity to expand on the Apollo missions. In addition, I hope they decide to revisit earlier landing sites, which will hopefully silence the "We never went" brigade!

Thank you for a supporting video with rambles, really, the raw thoughts help. I hope this is the next space race. As a child raised in the late 90’s, I saw the accomplishments of the Apollo and missions after through the lens of hindsight. We were making leaps and bounds, look like ant’s steps. I truly think the only way to advance to the stars, is to race there, just as our accessors raced to distant lands

Go to that launch, Joe! I grew up in Florida, went to the Cape in Dec. 1968 to watch Apollo VIII, which circled the moon, then a little later, went to the first shuttle launch. Neither time was I able to get closer than 7 miles to the pad, but even there, the sound is so "solid" you feel as though you could lean over and not fall, that the sound pressure itself would hold you upright. Get there and have something you can tell the grandkids about later ;)

I also love the „unscripted“ videos. Feels more like a conversation. While some people say, the moon only destracts us from the real goal Mars, one thing is clear: we should test stuff in our vicinity, where we have a chance to come home within 3 days or so if something goes wrong etc. And once we know, we can do it, we should go to Mars, from where you can only return wirhin a year or even longer (depending on the transfer orbits used) and where you are simply dead, if something goes wrong, because nobody could even launch a supply or rescue mission that would reach Mars in time!

If this is the first step toward manufacturing infrastructure off earth, I am absolutely ALL for it! When they did the Apollo program, we were able to do it at the ragged bleeding edge of aerospace technology. As much as I have bemoaned 50 years of LEO, it taught us how to actually LIVE in space, instead of just going on a brief site-seeing trip. Now we have better tech, which should increase the safety margin somewhat, and give us more capability once we get there. This time, instead of just planting flags and gathering rocks, I hope we begin building infrastructure and researching resource extraction.

You are also appreciated, Joe. Living in New Zealand, NASA launches are a long way to go, but we do have Rocketlab. I had hoped to be at the CAPSTONE launch, but the delays put it outside my available window. I was sat on the beach for one of their earlier launches that got scrubbed - or held - just 9 minutes from launch and then too couldn't wait for the reschedule, so I am yet to see a launch in person. Well... unless you count the model rocket I launched myself. Soon! It would be great to see a video profiling the Artemis astronauts. Maybe you could even swing some interviews.

Maybe wait a day and follow up answering several common questions that popped up from the main video. That way it's more of a reaction video to your video and can be more casual than your formal videos. This would give you more timely interaction with your viewers. I would think that would be beneficial for a channel.

I was having this same thought. Perhaps not for every video on the main channel but for ones that Joe has more to say about. Side benefit would be a spike in subs on this channel from people that want that unscripted deeper dive into interesting topics.

It really is hard though coming from out of state because they get cancelled so often. I would often drive over knowing the chance of seeing a launch was low. One time I woke up, saw the launch was scrubbed and went back to sleep. I left my parents a message so they wouldn't go but they missed it and drove up from South Florida anyway!

I really appreciate that in your content you mention the incredible work Nasa is doing. Often the exorbitant cost comparison of NASA projects compared to spaceX is enough to put NASA's work aside. On the other hand, the vehicle of the Artemis program absolutely cannot be compared to falcon 9/see starship. SpaceX can still afford to blow up its vehicles, but when Starship is matured with its booster and costs several hundred million, the pace of development will become by much smaller increments and the relative costs can then be compared. Whatever I say, I appreciate the work of both and I greatly appreciate your work! Cher from Quebec
