With Bruces first two albums the executives wanted them to be folk and him to be the new Dylan. But he wanted to do rock. Later he did Nebraska which was what they wanted him to be in the first place.

The album and this song was inspired in Charles Starkweather, a killer. I think there is a very old movie called "Badlands" with Michael Sheen and Sissy Spacek over this teen killer and his girlfriend. His lyrics are often inspired in movies and also one of his songs inspired a movie directed by Sean Penn, The Indian Runner, which was directly related to Highway Patroleman.

If you hear singing or music played on Tommy's videos - it's all him - unless otherwise stated. My favourite Tommy video is of him doing Bohemian Rhapsody. Blew me away! If you're curious about his band, Sabaton. You should check out the power ballad En Livstid i Krig ( The Great Tour, Gothenburg), make sure you get the English subtitles. This song is both powerful and moving.

I got to see this master drummer when I was 15 and will never forget it. That left hand is so fast it appears that the stick is not even moving. To think, the man was in his 60s, and having a heart attack during this performance.

This is also considered part 4 of a series that starts with Trapped (Billie Eilish in 5 minutes) and continues with Panic at the Disco in 4 Minutes (parts 1 and 2). Yes, it was, as others said, written after a health scare on tour for Earl. But my understanding is Geoff has stated it does tie in with the other songs. This is also one of the last performances by Earl with the group before he left for personal reasons. (I think Just Sing was the actual last showing of Earl in a VP song.)

I never associated this song with Elvis (not a favorite singer of mine) since I first heard this via one or two other artists. That said, I liked the song but not really loved it. VP took it on and it is one of my favorites of their covers.
