This was from the 2002 concert film/documentary *Standing In The Shadows of Motown* . The purpose was to highlight the work of the session musicians who played on the tremendous number of hits recorded on the Motown label in the 60s and early 70s. Known as *The Funk Brothers* , they were Detroit's equivalent of the famous Wrecking Crew from LA. The film includes archival footage and interviews with surviving members, as well as performances backing artists Joan Osborne, Bootsy Collins, Me'shell Ndegeocello, Ben Harper, Chaka Khan, Gerald Leverrt and Montell Jordan

In the documentary Joan Osborne says when she was just starting out she used to sing at a club that had a great jukebox and she used to play this song every night!

The original documentary from 2002 called "Standing in the Shadows" of Motown is AMAZING!

Just saw Joan in concert a couple of weeks ago. There are very few artists who are legit great singer-songwriters and legit interpreters, but she is one. Take anything from the Relish or Little Wild One albums and you'll see her strength as a writer (though her hit One Of Us was not written by her). She did an album called Breakfast In Bed that was all Motown and Philly soul covers. She did an album of Dylan covers and she toured with members of the Grateful Dead.

If no one has mentioned it, the band consisted of original Motown players who played on so many of those classic Motown hits!

*The Funk Brothers* backed The Temptations, Supremes, Miracles, Four Tops, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Mary Wells, Martha & the Vandellas, The Contours, Jackie Wilson,etc... The most famous member *James Jamerson* was the influential bass player who provided signature riffs on songs like: You Can't Hurry Love My Girl Shotgun For Once In My Life Dancing In The Street I Heard It Through The Grapevine Reach Out, I'll Be There Bernadette James has been cited as an important influence by Paul McCartney, as well as others like Geddy Lee, John Entwistle, Sting, John Paul Jones, Peter Cetera, Bootsy Collins, Jack Bruce, Jason Newsted, Rick Danko, Garry Tallent, Brian WIlson....

*Joan Osborne's* 1995 debut album Relish went 3x Platinum based on the success of the single *"One Of Us"* which reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was a big hit in Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand. Unfortunately, that was the extent of her commercial success, although she continued to write and record 12 more albums as well as projects with other artists.
