    FFXIII has the worst battle system, follow by FFXV and FFXII. For the best, FF Tactics is the best, follow by FFIV, FFVI and FFVII

    I would have put FF4 and FF6 before FF7. I find the depth of every character, development and personnality is far better in FF4 and FF6 than FF7.

    That's cool. I think some characters in VI and IV are definitely underrated, but I still think the cast in VII is stronger. I love IV's Cid, but I think VII's has way more depth, for example, and I did mention in the video that I don't think characters like Umaro, Gogo or Strago have much depth compared to say, Tifa, Barret or Vincent. But hey, different things vibe with different people! :)

    I would put Aht Urghan exactly on the same bracket as Heavensward. Both are smaller in scales and feel more like a side quest to the main overarching story, and focus on one region (Ishgard and Aht Urghan). Both have that particular vibe that you can only find in those expansions through the characters, the lusic, the politics and stakes. Very similar in my opinion. Stormblood had more to do with the main story as it focuses directly on the Empire which was kinda the main antagonist for a while and it introduces Zenos who for some reason would become important in the later expansions like Endwalker

    Thank you for highlighting the similarity between Squall and Lightning. I never understood why people compare her to Cloud

  • @gregtroyan
    @gregtroyan5 күн бұрын

    I think there's an intentional naming convention with several FF characters. Cloud, Squall, Lightning, and Rain all have the aerial weather theme going on in their names. All 4 of them are extremely competent soldiers and are considered to be the "ace" by their respective parties. Lightning does have some Advent Children-esqe movements, which offers more similarity to Cloud than Squall in terms of visual presentation. And I do think the beginning of XIII is an intentional callback to VII, so I do think there are some more surface level similarities to Cloud that were done intentionally, but in terms of her characterization and personality, she is much closer to Squall. I think most video games aren't that good at media analysis, and thus they're only able to recognize the surface level visual stuff, which leads to the Cloud comparisons. They also might not know what a squall even is and not recognize the weather theme. TL;DR I can understand the comparisons to Cloud, and some of them are valid, but I think the better character comparison is Squall.

    The biggest reason for WotG distaste was actually due to the fact that the expansion was the absolute longest drawn-out release schedule as a lot of their crew was already being shifted over to FFXIV 1.0 for development. Each of the nation mission stories and the main story were released in 3 major segments and your rank within campaign was required to remain in tact (which would dwindle if you didn't log in and participate) to be able to progress when the next section finally released.

  • @gregtroyan

    XI fans I've noticed aren't the best at adjusting opinions after first impressions. Zilart is amazing because it came out in 2003, WOTG is trash because it was incomplete at launch. I understand the frustration to a degree playing through the tiny updates in Voracious, but the quality of WOTG makes it absolutely worth the wait, IMO.

Strays hit like a truck, Memory Receptacle portals stayed open for maybe a minute if that and had a far lower pop rate, and the bosses were almost impossible if you didn't farm the animas beforehand. If you tried it in an alliance it was almost guaranteed someone was going to get left behind before they could reach the portal, and if they got left behind, too bad. I decided to give this reaction a chance, eventhough I can't stand the band, I do enjoy Greg's reactions most of the time. And I feel bad because I consider Greg a friend from afar. So here I am to view this reaction. Ok, I started watching the reaction and no more than a minute goes by and Greg says: "This is Thin Lizzy 2.0" and I was out immediately. I really tried, but it sets me off too much to listen to falshoods and misinformation as it relates to a band I care deeply about. No knock on Greg, but I just can't. Now, I get that no one cares if I watch the non-Philip reactions or not, but I wanted everyone to know that I did indeed try. Please send up a Philip signal in the sky when there is an actual reaction to Thin Lizzy or any reaction involving Phil in any way. I will then magically appear with bells on. I recorded in bulk because I have a really busy July. The good news is that the BSR songs we are doing are their best stuff and the videos are actually worth watching because the songs are pretty good. As far as Phil/Lizzy song, we've got one coming up in 2 weeks. What I'm going to do the next time I record is do BSR songs in reverse order because it turned out that doing all their early stuff in a row led to me covering all of their best songs, which led to a bunch a weeks of BSR tunes. I did skip two of them as not being worth our time (which leads to a Lizzy reaction and a Phil reaction), but to make sure I'm more likely to skip them, I'm going to go from the bottom of the list up. I think I'm also going to alternate every other week on making BSR the random music so that way it won't be a bunch of weeks in a row of BSR, to correct what happened here. So, coming up: Next week - BSR The following week - Thin Lizzy The week after that - BSR The week after that week - BSR Then after that - Phil solo

    @@CaveatZealot Gotcha! That's a meaty prospect to consider. I'll really have to do some thinking about how I would approach such a subject. I know I wouldn't just want to do the Dissidia/Record Keeper route where there's just a flimsy excuse teleporting people from different worlds together, but it would definitely be tricky with the differing technologies of the different FF games. The twist at the end of the FFIV: TAY would likely be my crutch for linking the worlds together, along with the ending of Lightning Returns, but I'd probably significantly rework the stories to work in the shared universe cinematic medium. But I do think that core TAY twist would likely be foundational to my approach.

    Came in hoping to get a summary of the vibes of wotg-onward for FFXIV's upcoming release, but came out with motivation to really go in and finish this game. I completely agree about private servers. Great for archival, but very disrespectful and actively destructive to FF11's continued existence.

  • @gregtroyan
    @gregtroyan16 күн бұрын

    Through the comments section, I learned that most private servers include post-WOTG quality of life features like teleports, despite claiming they are trying to provide an "old school" experience. Keeping teleports but removing other content shows their general disrespect for the devs, in my opinion, and makes me have zero interest in supporting private servers unless they are truly acting as something archival. The versions of the game that exists on private servers never existed, and thus they are not archival in my book. Someday, when XI goes down, and I'll gladly play a private server that includes TVR and Trusts and the whole thing, but the picking and choosing of what they think is the "correct" XI is something that never actually existed and is a bunch of disrespectful elitism. I'm so so so glad that you are deciding to continue your XI journey based on this video. I couldn't be happier to hear that. Best of luck with your journey, mate! : )

  • @gregtroyan
    @gregtroyan18 күн бұрын

    In case it wasn't clear in the last video: BSR has now become our "Random Number Generator" music until we run out of BSR songs. If the BSR song is good enough to warrant a full reaction, we'll do that BSR song. If it isn't, we'll skip it and do a random song from the list (Thin Lizzy/Phil solo/Grand Slam/Blue Murder/21 Guns/Etc). This way, we can still do the few remaining BSR songs that are actually worthwhile but we don't have to dedicate a full week to mediocre material. So, the song that came up this week from BSR was good enough to get a full reaction, and thus it did. I recorded a bunch of these in advance, so while there are some BSR songs that got full reactions, there were some I decided to skip because I felt they weren't worth our time. The BSR songs I do decide to do full reactions to are ones I think are worth looking at.

  • @gregtroyan
    @gregtroyan18 күн бұрын

    @@quolizzy1554 No, I'll be upfront and say whether or not the BSR song gets a full reaction. If you look at the upcoming videos on the channel, if the BSR song gets a full reaction, it means I listened to one verse and one chorus and decided it was good enough to get a full reaction. If you see a song coming up that isn't BSR, that means I listened to the verse and chorus of whatever BSR song was on the list, decided it wasn't worth our time, and skipped to a Thin Lizzy/Phil solo song. So, basically, if you see a BSR reaction, it means it's one of the better and/or more interesting ones that is actually worth taking a look at it. But, in the Thin Lizzy reactions, you'll get to see me reject the BSR song as not being worth our time.

    I didn't even bother to look where he ranked this. He ranked it above Valley Of The Kings didn't he?

  • @Michael-----

    Yup, sure enough he did. Shocker. Now he can't explain why without lying, but we all know Valley Of The Kings is the superior song by a mile.

    @@Michael----- Like 10 spots higher. But, in fairness, it's a better song.

    Go listen to both right now, and you can't with a straight face say Stones is better. Where is the Valley of the Rolling Stones? London?
