I quite like this but needs polishing up. Sounds like an unfinished Are You Ready.

It does sound pretty similar to Are You Ready in terms of pulse. I think I like the chorus melody in this one better, but Are You Ready is more complete.

@@gregtroyan I was just going to say that I've loved the live version for a long time. Never heard this demo. I agree with your comments that the various parts aren't clicking into a single groove. I don't know if there is a proper studio version, but the live version seems to fix all the messy parts you mention and really shines as a great jammer with Laurence Archer's guitar really locking in with Phil's singing.

Greg, I don't care about Taylor Swift or Final Fantasy but do care about TLT and will be sticking around with or without criticism.

The Taylor Swift stuff has some value. I think as an artist she deserves some space on this channel. Is she Greg's all-time favorite female artist? I don't think so, but I enjoy album rankings even from artists I don't personally enjoy all that much. We are waiting for the Thin Lizzy "video essay" on all their albums

@@Michael----- If I were to do a video essay, I would need an interesting angle that I'm inspired by. I don't have an interesting angle in regards to doing a Lizzy overview, or at least one that inspires me to do an essay outside of what I'm already doing on the channel. If I was to do a music video essay, the topic I'd be most interested in covering would be doing a video on the New Wave of Swedish Sleaze, but I haven't felt the urge to make that video happen.

@@gregtroyanWell, we still don't have your official ranking of all the albums. So whatever you want to call it, do a video with your official ranking of the albums. I think the topic came up when it was said you would be forced to rank Renegade quite low.

I'm still here, even if not all my comments seem to be. Good luck with the screenplay. I've been having an interesting time on various channels trying to determine which artist's fans are the the least tolerant of criticism. What was it Arthur C. Clarke said about the universe being stranger than we can imagine? I don't rate demos because they are not something I would generally choose to listen to. They often present an unfair picture of the artist, and I think that's the case here. The opening riff reminds me of Whole Lotta Rosie by AC/DC, although it quickly moves on. The verse is quite strong, although the lyrics don't add up to much, they sound like placeholders to me, and the rest of the song doesn't really do much until the outro. I do think the drumming is very good. I assume it's Robbie Brennan, but I don't know.

I listen to demos a lot more than the average music listener and some of my favorite songs from bands are demos that never made the album, but there's often caveats of the production quality and incomplete nature of some of the material that needs to be reconciled with. I think Gay Boys is a masterpiece as is, and I'm a big fan of certain Kiss demos like Time Traveler and Sword and Stone. So, it depends, sometimes a demo is really incomplete, and sometimes a demo is something left off the album for one reason or another (not fitting with theme, too similar to another song on the album, etc.) Also, the answer for which fans are the least tolerant of criticism are Final Fantasy VI fans, by far.

My only "criticism" this week is that Crazy is a better song than it was given credit for here. Greg admits it sounds great live, then why not also admit ranking it overall too low here, and move it up. It's ok though, there are a few songs now in C rank that are A rank or better songs. Greg never claimed his rankings are correct or perfect.

@@gregtroyan I stick to music reviews. Try telling Rush fans that Neil Peart is not the GOAT, or Pink Floyd fans that calling their favourite band overrated is not undermining their entire conception of reality: these are ugly people to cross.

As it’s a demo it’s hard to say much about it. The lyrics didn’t do anything for me. Didn’t seem up to Phil’s normal quality. While guitar solo was good, it didn’t seem to fit to me. Again, it’s a demo so can’t really criticize it. I’d have liked to hear a completed version

Demos are hard to critique. Sometimes they are a complete package, other times they are more of a sketch.
