Fantastic! Great solo from Scott too!

OMG this has to be one of my favourite Thin Lizzy songs ever. I'm never sure why as there are so many belters out there, but this never seems to fail to excite me. Again it's the single that got away in my opinion. Its Scott on guitar solo on this one, and it's one of my favourite guitar solos too. I was all over this track even before Greg reviewed it. Personally I would have ranked it right up there with Military Man. Its got thoze catchy lyrics, so when I'm down my friends they come around, but when I'm upset, my friends help me to forget. That was always a favourite when I played the song in my car with friends. Anyway, a great Thin Lizzy Thursday. Thank you Greg. Keep this up mate 😊

A great track. I remember the last track on this album being a stand out too (for me anyway) Can't remember the name of it off hand. Yes that was definitely Scott on lead.

Fantastic Song! Double S though? If one were ranking the Philip Lynott catalog properly, this would be a high A rank track. No One Told Him is one of the highlights on Renegade.

I don't think it's a classic, but I do think it's a very good song. I think you could switch it with Running Back and I wouldn't complain. The solo is pretty much a definitive Scott solo, the phrasing, vibrato and note choices all have his signature. I think someone has done a YT video of every Thin Lizzy solo, so there may be some information there. I can almost always tell who played what although it can be tricky between Scott and Brian sometimes. The reason for the low harmonies is because Phil did most of them, so there's a limit to high or low they can sit. I think one of the strengths of Black Rose is the way Gary can sing the parts Phil can't reach.

As a fellow singer with limited range, I'm aware of why Phil is going with those low harmonies. I think he really pushed himself vocally on Jailbreak with the harmonies and wish he had kept that up, because it's the best the band ever sounded vocally.

@@gregtroyan I've had the same problem with harmonies, or having to go lower when you get to the chorus of a song because you can't hit the high notes.

Scott did just as many backing vocals on Black Rose as Gary did. I know some here worship everything Gary ever did, but a great singer he was not. Now, you can disagree, but trying to claim Gary covered up Phil's vocal shortcomings is laughable.

It probably is my favourite Thin Lizzy song, I think its hugely over looked. I like that punk version too.

I'm pretty sure it's Scott too, but I've been wrong before. So, I'll assume Scott, but if I'm told otherwise, my mind won't be blown.

Pretty much full agreement here. I’ve probably mentioned before that Renegade is the first TL album I ever purchased knowing next to nothing about the band. As a kid I didn’t care for Fats, but now I like it (not as much as you). I think every song on it is strong. Not my favorite album (mine is also BR). So I don’t get the hate either. So, thumbs up from me. 😊

Renegade is a good album, no doubt. But it's not an epically GREAT album. There is no one with any musical clue at all, that would rank Renegade above Vagabonds, Black Rose, Bad Reputation, Fighting, Jailbreak, and Thunder And Lightning.

@@patrickcatlett2981Well, maybe I should have said Bad Reputation is a much better album. I don't care either about random rankings, but I do care about music, and Bad Reputation is the superior album overall, and it's really not close. We are talking about a band where every album is good. There are some that stand far above good.
