This is a song writen by Phil about himself. He's witnessing his own decline in health due to the rock n roll lifestyle, and the chorus I remember him when were young telling him of the risk of that rock n roll lifestyle might actually catch up with you one day, and warning Phil of the dangers. But at that time Phil probably laughed it off. But now by 1981 when this song was recorded, Phil realised now his health isn't in such great shape, so he some how is able to rise above it and write a song called Its Getting Dangerous, because his situation is getting dangerous, and he only lived 4 or 5 more years. The song has deeper lyrics than is credited. I think its worthy of a much higher ranking, certainly higher than Rockula (Rock Your Love) It's miles better than that. But another great Thin Lizzy Thursday Greg. Thanks again 😊

I respect it more as well....because I know it's not about Gary Moore or about Philip himself. Want proof? Go to Scott Gorham who co-wrote it with Phil. Now, you may say, Scott was mainly involved in the music side of writing, but he does know what Philip had in mind here lyrically.

Lyrically, one of the most honest and self biographical of Lynotts lyrics. The story of the position he was at that time of his life.

This is probably my favourite song from Renegade. I think it's one of the best integrations of synths into the band. Brian Downey is stellar, and I think the chorus is very strong and really well supported by the keyboards. Lyrically it's patchy but it does have some very good lines, and Phil's vocal really sells them. It's about someone who has an older wiser friend who looked out for him when they were growing up, but hard times have made that person into someone cold and ruthless no longer recognises. Someone who has gained materially but lost his humanity, the very danger he is talking about in the beginning. Whether Phil was looking internally and musing on some of the choices he made along the way, I don't know.

I'm not sure we agree on the strength of the chorus, but I do like your view of the lyrics. That, combined with elzorro's will help me a lot when I re-listen to this piece.

This was written at the time he seperated from his wife and lost contact with his kids and fell out with some of his old friends. He lived in Kew in London on his own surrounded by hangers on. His addictions 'The Danger' is taking control. 'The Rain the sleet the snow' the drugs. His solo career, sees him 'A little Thinner' - less of Lizzy career. I have a feeling the person who he remembers 'way back then...when we were young' was Gary Moore. Gary would always try and lecture Philip about drugs and the danger they lead him too.

I thought the lyrics were great and very heartfelt from Phil. Thought the drum fills were good also. This is an altogether different sound from Lizzy but Phil could spring a few surprises and this was one of them. It worked imo and it's certainly grown on me over the years.

I actually think B rank is a fair slot for this song. It's fine, but it isn't blowing any skirts up. Greg putting No One Told Him in Double S made him realize Renegade does have some songs not worthy of writing home about.

@@gregtroyanI like Renegade as an album also. I said B rank is fair here. Now, there is no way in hell this song deserves to be way above Killer Without A Cause. Your C rank is a complete dumpster fire.

While this doesn’t indicate every song was autobiographical or about a person Phil knew, it certainly was part of his repertoire. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eax7pNOoddqWZ7A.htmlsi=gCHMS_A8GJL2U-9q

I strongly disagree. No way this is below Shades. I think it’s very strong lyrically. As mentioned previously I too think Phil was perhaps at least thinking about Gary in these lyrics. The falling out they had over the drug use. Musically I think it’s strong. Not every song has to be a pop song. I’m guessing you don’t like Mozart as he didn’t have catchy choruses! 😊

Mozart was one of the poppiest composers of his day. His work is know for being deceptively simple and focusing on repeating strong melodies to ingrain the musical motifs in the heads of his listeners. Of all of the classical composers, one could argue he is one of the closest to traditional pop music.
