Hi Adam. Your app is not working with my IPhone 15 pro Max. It worked once after paying for the Pro version. Since then it has not worked. It says connected to the switcher but when I press the cameras on the switcher on your app nothing happens on my switcher, it doesn’t switch at all. There’s no video tutorial on this nor is there anyway to contact your app for help. My local network settings is on but nothing. This is so disappointing especially after paying for the pro.

I refer you to the Connection Help section of the documentation, which covers common problems with connecting. docs.mixeffect.app/support/connection-help I suspect that your iPhone and your ATEM are not on the same network. Or, your ATEM’s IP address has changed from when you initially set it up. This is why I recommend setting up the ATEM with a static IP address using the ATEM Setup application on your Mac/PC. When you say it’s connected to the switcher, I also suspect that you are connected to the ATEM Simulator, NOT your ATEM. If you were connected to the real switcher, it would work properly. Search my channel for the video on connecting to the ATEM using MixEffect for additional guidance.

@@AdamTow I bought the MixEffect Pro. When I connect it to my iPad, it always identifies my ATEM Mini Pro ISO as an ATEM Simulator, not giving me the options and settings of the Switcher.
@@youtubenapratica. That's because the IP address you're entering in MixEffect is the MixEffect IP address, NOT the IP address of your ATEM Mini Pro ISO. Get it from ATEM Setup on your Mac/PC and input that into MixEffect instead. docs.mixeffect.app/support/connection-help for more tips.

Great great great stuff Adam, all we need now is a recording feature in mix effect to capture the footage for recording - wish apple had quicktime for IPAD .. does anyone know of any apps that would record the USB web cam.. thanks keep up the great work - Best App Ever --thanks

It's possible to record that, but I don't do it in MixEffect. I don't do this because the user might leave the app to do something else, which will sever the connection to the ATEM and USB camera. It's not a good user experience, so I'll leave recording the footage to other more dedicated hardware or software.

if it’s a switch, it doesn’t matter which port the iPad or ATEM are plugged into. If the switch is connected to a network/internet, you will have to set up static IP addresses for both devices. Read this for more detail: labs.mixeffect.app/article/2021/12/directly-connect-to-atem-via-ethernet/

BlackMagic really needs to come up with a way to make their app update automatically. It's probably the only app on the planet that requires people to research instructional videos on how to do a simple update on the app. There should just be an option "automatically keep up to date" in the settings.

@@AdamTow There needs to be something similar to ZoomISO for those of us who use Teams. Being a government employee, the IT numbskulls have locked out the NDI capability of Teams and won't authorize me to use OBS even if I had NDI. TeamsISO would be fantastic.

Hey Adam, let me know if you hear any word of issues with some Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD's. After upgading to 9.5 on my ATEM Mini Extreme ISO, 2 out of 3 Sandisk Exptreme Pro SSD's would no longer show up as a drive on the ATEM.

@@AdamTow I have just tested my extreme 1tb and it works fine. I know that some usb cables don't work with the atem so make sure you use the one that came with the hard drive. One thing that no one is talking about is that you can now connect to OBS via the usb C on the atem and not needing to use a capture device anymore. I haven't tried it in the real world yet but testing so far seems to work ok. This gives the ability to record directly into OBS.

I think the reason, why you need the usb-dongles, is probably the usb-c-cable is too capable. I had the same problem with atem switcher on modern Microsoft Surface Pro devices. Using an older cable made it work

Chiming in, the reason why a USB-C cable from the switcher to the iPad doesn't work is because for some reason the handshake that determines which device is the host and which is the client, prioritizes the ATEM as the host. Using a C-to-A cable or a pair of dongles is able to force the ATEM to be seen as the client. this most likely would have to be fixed by black magic design

There is something strange about BMD's usb-c support. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. If it is not going to be standard, I with they would just sell one that is guaranteed to work. I have a couple Extreme ISOs that don't work right and I can only reset them once i a blue moon, because it refuses to see the usb-c connection, despite trying dozens of usb-c cables.

These IP addresses can be confusing, but I got it working with the static IPs. One question, though... I use my iPhone and am connected to the switcher through the app. At some point I might want to use my iPhone camera to record a closeup (for later editing). So, I use the iPhone camera, all works fine, then I switch back to the MixEffect Pro app, but it is no longer connected to the switcher. In that case I need to tap on <Back and then reconnect to the switcher, which does take 3 taps. In my settings I do have "Auto-Reconnect" selected, so I was assuming it would auto reconnect, but perhaps I am misunderstanding the setting. Is there a way for the app to stay connected, even if I have to temporarily switch to another app on my iPhone? Thanks.

I just got MixEffects Pro about 10 days ago. The issue that doesn't seem to be addressed anywhere is that the phone goes to sleep mode, then when I wake up the phone MixEffects Pro is no longer connected to my ATEM. I wrote to the developer and have not heard back. Is there a fix for that?

I did respond to you via email, maybe the response is in your spam folder? When you sleep your device, iOS will suspend the application, meaning the connection between MixEffect and the ATEM will be severed. There is no way to avoid this. You can turn off Auto-Sleep in MixEffect settings. That way if the app is running in the foreground, the iPhone will not sleep.

@@AdamTow Oh, I didn't realize you were the developer. I was just browsing KZread and found your videos and thought I'd ask. I didn't find an auto-sleep setting, but I did find an auto-lock setting. That's probably what you meant, right? It does seem to solve the issue. Great little app, for sure. Looking forward to using it.

Hi man, I had a test in Apple Store with my 2018 iPad Pro 11” and the new 2024 oled iPad Pro 11” and I can tell you there’s no such a big difference as in your video. They’re very close and, for some reason, I prefer colors on the 2018 model: they’re more natural.

I had to use Color Filters in Accessibility to get my colors to look similar (shown in my blog post not the video). Night Mode and True Tone turned off. Maybe I just used the 2018 iPad Pro too much over the years and the LED turned yellow.

5th gen iPad Pro 12.9" is the M1. The screen is fine on that. Gen 3 may have lesser battery life and the screen isn't as good. Still perfectly fine for watching movies and listening to music. M1 is more futureproof with regards to iPadOS updates, but it is €550 more expensive. Only you can decide which works best for you. Good luck!

It's possible to record that, but I don't do it in MixEffect. I don't do this because the user might leave the app to do something else, which will sever the connection to the ATEM and USB camera. It's not a good user experience, so I'll leave recording the footage to other more dedicated hardware or software.
The setup with a switch is EXACTLY what I was looking to do - awesome! Thank you!

If I use a 5-port switch, what port does my iPad and ATEM mini have to be plugged into?
if it’s a switch, it doesn’t matter which port the iPad or ATEM are plugged into. If the switch is connected to a network/internet, you will have to set up static IP addresses for both devices. Read this for more detail: labs.mixeffect.app/article/2021/12/directly-connect-to-atem-via-ethernet/

Time to take advantage of the network effect and see how many USB cables the community can test to find one that works without dongles!
BlackMagic really needs to come up with a way to make their app update automatically. It's probably the only app on the planet that requires people to research instructional videos on how to do a simple update on the app. There should just be an option "automatically keep up to date" in the settings.

@@AdamTow There needs to be something similar to ZoomISO for those of us who use Teams. Being a government employee, the IT numbskulls have locked out the NDI capability of Teams and won't authorize me to use OBS even if I had NDI. TeamsISO would be fantastic.
4:52 I'm no Electrical Engineer, but thanks for the "hack". Something is not auto-sensing on the USB interface that's for certain. Will definitely use a Powered Hub if needed.
Hey Adam, let me know if you hear any word of issues with some Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD's. After upgading to 9.5 on my ATEM Mini Extreme ISO, 2 out of 3 Sandisk Exptreme Pro SSD's would no longer show up as a drive on the ATEM.
Oh no! I am doing a show this week with the Extreme and will have to test my SSD drives to make sure they work before the show.
@@AdamTow I have just tested my extreme 1tb and it works fine. I know that some usb cables don't work with the atem so make sure you use the one that came with the hard drive. One thing that no one is talking about is that you can now connect to OBS via the usb C on the atem and not needing to use a capture device anymore. I haven't tried it in the real world yet but testing so far seems to work ok. This gives the ability to record directly into OBS.
why this is not also for HD8, HD8 ISO, HD8 4k

I think the reason, why you need the usb-dongles, is probably the usb-c-cable is too capable. I had the same problem with atem switcher on modern Microsoft Surface Pro devices. Using an older cable made it work
I tried a variety of usb-c to usb-c cables from fancy ones to old ones. I will try more when I am back at my ATEM.
Chiming in, the reason why a USB-C cable from the switcher to the iPad doesn't work is because for some reason the handshake that determines which device is the host and which is the client, prioritizes the ATEM as the host. Using a C-to-A cable or a pair of dongles is able to force the ATEM to be seen as the client. this most likely would have to be fixed by black magic design
@@zzyzx13 Thanks for the response. This sounds right to me. Some people have come back to me saying they've found a USB-C to USB-C cable that works. Could it be that some are constructed differently?
There is something strange about BMD's usb-c support. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. If it is not going to be standard, I with they would just sell one that is guaranteed to work. I have a couple Extreme ISOs that don't work right and I can only reset them once i a blue moon, because it refuses to see the usb-c connection, despite trying dozens of usb-c cables.

Adam, are you able to get the uvc multicam into mixeffect to work on ipads with the lighting connector?
I don’t think this will work because external webcam support in iPadOS only works via the USB-C connector.

These IP addresses can be confusing, but I got it working with the static IPs. One question, though... I use my iPhone and am connected to the switcher through the app. At some point I might want to use my iPhone camera to record a closeup (for later editing). So, I use the iPhone camera, all works fine, then I switch back to the MixEffect Pro app, but it is no longer connected to the switcher. In that case I need to tap on <Back and then reconnect to the switcher, which does take 3 taps. In my settings I do have "Auto-Reconnect" selected, so I was assuming it would auto reconnect, but perhaps I am misunderstanding the setting. Is there a way for the app to stay connected, even if I have to temporarily switch to another app on my iPhone? Thanks.

I just got MixEffects Pro about 10 days ago. The issue that doesn't seem to be addressed anywhere is that the phone goes to sleep mode, then when I wake up the phone MixEffects Pro is no longer connected to my ATEM. I wrote to the developer and have not heard back. Is there a fix for that?
I did respond to you via email, maybe the response is in your spam folder? When you sleep your device, iOS will suspend the application, meaning the connection between MixEffect and the ATEM will be severed. There is no way to avoid this. You can turn off Auto-Sleep in MixEffect settings. That way if the app is running in the foreground, the iPhone will not sleep.
@@AdamTow Oh, I didn't realize you were the developer. I was just browsing KZread and found your videos and thought I'd ask. I didn't find an auto-sleep setting, but I did find an auto-lock setting. That's probably what you meant, right? It does seem to solve the issue. Great little app, for sure. Looking forward to using it.

Phone needs to be on. MixEffect needs to be running in the foreground or in the background if you have the Run in Background feature enabled (docs.mixeffect.app/explore/run-in-background).

Hi man, I had a test in Apple Store with my 2018 iPad Pro 11” and the new 2024 oled iPad Pro 11” and I can tell you there’s no such a big difference as in your video. They’re very close and, for some reason, I prefer colors on the 2018 model: they’re more natural.
I had to use Color Filters in Accessibility to get my colors to look similar (shown in my blog post not the video). Night Mode and True Tone turned off. Maybe I just used the 2018 iPad Pro too much over the years and the LED turned yellow.

Not sure I understand the question. What kind of ATEM switcher do you have? SSRC doesn’t work on ATEMs that do not support SuperSource. If the buttons aren’t working, read this blog post. Sometimes importing the profile into Companion has problems: labs.mixeffect.app/article/2022/05/companion-profile-installation-troubleshooting/

5th gen iPad Pro 12.9" is the M1. The screen is fine on that. Gen 3 may have lesser battery life and the screen isn't as good. Still perfectly fine for watching movies and listening to music. M1 is more futureproof with regards to iPadOS updates, but it is €550 more expensive. Only you can decide which works best for you. Good luck!

Turning off the screen:
iPhones today have Raise to Wake, Tap and Swipe to Wake to turn back on the screen after you turn it off. It takes multiple settings changes to deactivate them. Wipe My Screen is better.
@@AdamTow idk I don’t usually activate tap to wake when cleaning my screen, also raise to wake is a battery disaster since the phone keeps turning on in my pocket so I just have that disabled.

Which iPad or Mac do you have and what OS are they running? Must be macOS 14 or iPadOS 17 or higher. iPad must be USB-C iPad, no Lightning iPad.
