I work on my BMW myself. And I work on many other cars both domestic and import. BMW is what the younger generation would call "extra". They don't need to reinvent the wheel but they do anyway. And they do it with cheap ass plastic and funky kraut-ass engineering. Sure you can get the training to work on them but the cars depreciate so badly that most people who do work on them regularly do not have the training/dont care. Now let me tell you, the older BMWs from the early 2000s and below are relatively stress-free when it comes to maintaining them and working on them but all the other models afterwards are where things got overboard. I mean, just look at the cup holders of a e90. Or even better, that lovely HPFP that is literally designed to break. Nuff' said. That alone epitomizes modern BMW. Now if you can work on them like I do good on you but it doesn't make you a better mechanic. Just means you charge alot more then a regular mechanic per hour so you take your sweet ass time hahaha!

Ah I see you are the kind of person who loves to complain about retail employees not putting enough effort into their job, talk about how you could do it so much better. Then say you wouldn’t work there because they don’t pay enough. I wonder why the people who DO work there aren’t doing a good job. I feel your pain though, there is no good service anymore it used to be that when you walked into a store everyone there was an expert, now nobody knows nobody cares buyer beware. The main reason being to do with the rate of unemployment. When unemployment is low it means all the shit employees are getting hired anyway despite being, well, shit employees.

I just came across this video while at my parts counter and have to say... It sounds like Nathan should get a job working in retail parts because he really doesnt know how it goes from the other side.

I hit a Boulder in the road last night along with 3 other cars and copart wants to pick it up to assess it today for insurance. I want my car. They want my car. What do I do? My airbags deployed but with a reset my prius is drivable again but the Boulder hit the sub frame.

About 8 years ago I won 4 thousand on a 20 dollar ticket. The odds on the lottery site for that prize were one in 40 thousand. Since then I have never won more than 500 dollars a couple of times and I play every week. Mostly 30 dollar tickets and 20 dollars tickets. I have won 100 bucks or broke even numerous times and had losing streaks etc.

I always look at the chances, and I usually buy that many chances of the same ticket. If the 10.00 ticket had 1 n 3.27 chances, then I'd buy 4 tickets. That doesn't mean you would win every time because you don't. But it's better odds than if u bought 1 of each ticket you see.

It's called "planned obscelence". A topic that has been broached ions ago. It's not far fetched, many moons ago at the 1964 Worlds Fair at Flushing Meadows in NY, as a kid I witnessed a demonstration of a virtually indesctructible pair of women's pantyhose, the guy actually took a Bowie knife to it and couldn' rip it! You would think it would take the world by storm..right?! Look in your dresser drawers and see how many socks you have and compare how many pairs of pantyhose your significant other has and you'll see the(mfg) reasons not bringing this indestructible hose to market! $$

I always do my research on a part no matter where I buy it from and verify if it says OEM it really is and that it isn’t a fake product. Some parts stores I will not buy anything from but depending what your buying and where, most of brakes and electrical along with older stocked parts I still buy from there and have had no issues. Most Amazon are fake parts from China depending where they bought it from. Any long block parts requiring a rebuild I generally buy through a machine shop that has been around for decades.

My cable snapped inside the car cockpit right at the release lever. I tried removing the kidney grill at the front but was afraid of snapping the holding clips. So, inside the cockpit, I unscrewed the release lever, a couple of plastic panels and was then able to access the cable at the point where the lug was snapped off. I then attached a vice grip to the cable and gave it a good pull. This released the locking mechanism under the bonnet/hood and I was able to open it. I found this way much easier than removing the kidney grill. Hope this helps...

after very extensive reaserch including input from retired GM ATF Committee member I choose to stay away from anyting that says Dexron VI even if BMW specs are on it - of course for any GM transmission 2006 and older,,,,Dexron III or IIIH is the spec for these 5L40E and ZF, GM which is obsolete and replaced by Dexron VI,,,according to the GM man it is safer to use Dex III /IIIH rather than DexVI due to additives being added from API Group IV in DexVI which are not safe for some seals, bearings, rubbers, connectors etc. etc. etc..( worth mentioning- not safe for little components not the transmission itself) DexIII uses additives from API Group II base oils which at the time ( 20 years back and older) were not synthetics and safe for these little placstic/rubber/ seal components. He also had mentioned that DexIII is obsolete and GM does not license it to anyone, if you see it they are mostly backward compatibile oils like DexVI or ' it is recommended in place of Dex III ',,,on the other hand aftermarket marked D2, D3, D4 - are TRUE respective dexron specs,,,, he says that D2,D3, D3M, D4 etc. are mostly true to their meaning - old dexronII/IIE & dexronIII/IIIH- but they cannot use that OE trade name,,,also if you want to stay on a safe side use TES-295 specs with rigorous attention to most seals , includinf viton seals- not only in a transmission itself but all kind of hoses, connectors, filter, seals, lines and washers etc etc., of that era,,, so check the blue Valvoline that says DEX/Merc - front label says: recommended for dexIII / mercon, 2006 GM and older ; back label lists BMW specs,,, OR blue Valvoline Import Multi Vehicle, why ??? becasue it is compatible with all Japanease/ European/American vehicles of that era, it also has the respective automakers specs recommendations on the back ,,,but DexVI is nowhere to be found on it.....
