My Fadals have a cabinet that houses a spindle chiller with its pump and reservoir for the Dow Frost where you mounted that skimmer. They are all 10,000 RPM spindles and maybe that is the difference. It just looked strange to me not to see one there.

Hi! Just subscribed! Thanks for the video. I’m liking to have a machine at home that needs a RPC. How many amps do you have going to the house/garage? Did you have to increase it?

Thanks for your hard work with the video...not sure if you're still doing your offsets this way as its a old video but there is a way less complicated way of doing it. Use the haimer to set your offsets directly and use a cheap 2" dial tool setter off the vice or table. Use your Haimer first to get your height with the 2" block off your vice and table and record those numbers...mine off the vice is -7.996" or something. Then when tool setting and it asks guage block just enter that -7.996". Fixture offset will be direct reading from your Haimer no need to mess around with Macros. I also never move the axis control knobs or step knobs...I always leave the rotary in Z and the steps at max. that way you have a bit of a safety buffer when you enter jog mode and have forgotten to move it back to Z...Just use x, y, z on your keyboard for axis control and H,M,L for step size...

Good move!!! This is a real serius machine with way more capacity. Your production rate will be double if you machine steel. The biggest drawback is the spindle rpms not so high and the outdated electronics and control. But you will be able to make some improvements as you progress.

When checking backlash you need to be checking along the travel of that axis to see the wear at different points along that ball screw. The way you appear to be checking Y is by moving X which is only going to show you the backlash at one point in the ball screw

Thanks much for the great series of videos . . . it's been very helpful in setting up our 'new' VMC15. Any idea where we can get a pivoting table like the one you installed on the bottom of the control box in this video? I"ve been Googling around and don't even know what to call it.

My X axis is vibrating badly like it cannot resolve where it is. The resolver has the correct 1.7vac at the bullet terminal, and is silky smooth bearings. I took the resolver apart and the insides look factory fresh. I'm stumped, guess Ill replace it.... but wondering what the next part I'll be throwing at it, as I dont think this one is malfunctioning.

Why do you think you need that expensive whizz bang contraption to do your work? Machinists have been doing ultra accurate and production work for 200 years without that thing.

Every Fadal Ive used has "Go to last home position? Y/N" and I have always hit N, because it goes somewhere random and sets that as the nrw machine zero. I figured out how to stop this. Go to the actual home position, hit N for this prompt, then type into the command line "SetCS" for setting the cold start. None of my machines prompt me for another home position when I start them now. Helps save some time.

Great video! But just for future reference, the springs you referred to as bevel springs, are actually called Belville Washers, and how they are stacked can vary from application to application.

what "clear" coolant are you running is it Blaser Synergy 735? Ive been running it in my Tormach and for the 1st year it was fine, now all the paint is pealing but I cant say I did not know the issues others have had with the 735 so I guess I'm now paying the price. I hate oil based coolants is yours non oil?

I've really appreciated your Fadal videos as I was getting my 15XT set up. I fired it up successfully for the first time a week or so ago and am getting close to making chips! I just wanted to say that your attitude in this video is really inspiring. It seems like you've had a lot of change in your life recently, some of it seems quite challenging, and you seem so upbeat and positive in the way you're approaching it all. I was very happy to see in the comments that you've still got the Fadal tucked away for when you've got the space again. Congrats on the new job!

I think the answer would be to use a dedicated 3/4" end mill holder and calibrate the Haimer in that holder. Then never remove it from that holder. ER collets are good, but not perfect.

Fadal would not ever be a candidate for me after 34 years in the business and running nearly ALL brands over the years. The worst boat anchor I've ever seen. First one I ever ran was complete pile and company called Fadal to come get their crap out of our building ASAP but there was no longer a company left to return it to. Kept it without making further payments for 5 years then scrapped it.

I just prefer to set toolheights off top of vise jaw. Then measure from top of part to top of vise jaw and boom, that’s your z offset. No need for anything fancy…
