Fadal ATC Alignment - Part 3

Ғылым және технология

DONE!
All the needed parts came in and I put everything back together. I also provide a little more explanation to why/how I got to this point and the end result of all this work.

The tool holder ring is bent. Due to a z axis hitting coming down on tool. The prox switch on that shaft is a safety to help prevent it from getting bent. The washers give it a chance to move and trip the switch. I had it happen on one of my fadals. I just made a new shaft.

What is the reason you refuse to zero (0) your indicator to make measurements?

when we started to test the rigid tap option.... made a hole that is very close to the tap"s OD so when it made the tapping we were safe (when something is not set right it wont break any stuff)... and then could check the tiny thread peaks optically

That's a good idea to get started - I think I might have to try it! Thanks!

@@bgwmachine of course we used a 1/4 inch AL plate. be aware that 3 modes are available in the machine.... only one rigid tap and the rest :) G84.1 is the rigid tap ...check the BOOK for details ! !

Interesting process and nice job on getting it sorted. I'm still wondering about the root cause of the bent spindle. Maybe the washer stack was a failed prior repair? At 13:09 it looks like there is some deflection in the carousel when the spindle lowers to grab the tool, I assume that's normal.

Ryan yeah, that’s what I thought when I tried to put it back together correctly - previous owners bent the spindle and/or lost the washers and just stacked them to make it work... wondering if the missing washers also contributed somehow to the “not straight-ness”... and yeah, I think the slight movement with the carousel is normal - or at least I’ve seen other machines do similar (and I’m okay with it 😆)

Hmm seems like maybe the spindle wasn’t your problem at all?? But you are an engineer so now I can get your thought process. I still think you wasted a lot of money buying a brand new spindle when the old one could of sufficed. I mean just look at how much the platter gets deflected on each tool change. I think your problem was in the assembly. Yea you decreased the indicated reading by about half but I don’t think that was just in the spindle.

Definitely think the spindle was a contributing factor to the plate runout. Think about if you were to put a plate on the bottom of a banana and then rotated it. It will deflect a lot, but also be a repeatable deflection in the same locations. My indicator checks on the bottom or other parts of the assembly we’re just sanity checks or to help diagnose or find an issue - the main important measurement is the gap between the main spindle and the top of plate on the ATC - before it would be spot on on one side, and then hit the spindle when I rotate the ATC 180 degrees.... Now, it’s only about 0.010” off from one side to the other. Either way, I’d gladly have to pay the $300 to fix everything compared to having an ATC not work or even worse pay for a service tech to come out 😬😬

BGW Machine that’s actually pretty cheap for the spindle. I was thinking it was more. I understand the issue you were having. Anyways thanks for the videos. I only comment because the videos intrigue me. If I thought your videos really sucked I wouldn’t watch

Ian Agos I always wonder if I clearly explain things as I don’t typically rehearse what I’m going to say before I hit the record button - I just love to learn and then share what I do/learn. Thanks for the support! 🤘⚙️🛠
