My Fadals have a cabinet that houses a spindle chiller with its pump and reservoir for the Dow Frost where you mounted that skimmer. They are all 10,000 RPM spindles and maybe that is the difference. It just looked strange to me not to see one there.

I would not wire it to the machine power. Instead wire it to wall power through one of those cheap on off timers.. Set the timer for when the machine is not running. This does 2 things. First when the machine is not running the oil will float to the top of the tank and the skimmer will skim it off easy.. Second if your machine sits a lot the pump circulating your coolant will help keep it from going rancid.

I've been avoiding the coolant game because I only cut alum and use WD40 in a mist... At some point I'll have to start playing the game. When I do, this will come in handy. Thanks for bringing us along with you.

Yeah, I did the same thing initially but forced myself outside my comfort zone to learn (and share). It’s not that bad, I promise!

I always use simple green to clean my machines. Works great with quality coolant. I’ll definitely stay far away from anything blaser. I’ve had bad coolant experiences with rust lick and Mobil and will stay far away. Also seen some other blazer coolant eat the paint right off a machine. I’ve been running qualichem 251c with great results. Also has some easier features like refractometer reading 1:1 Qualichem will also typically give you a free 5 gallon sample.

I bought an Aquarium Aerator and it comes on about 1 hour per day really extended the coolant life.

Super handy how to. Thanks for the info. Can we get an update on how the coolant performs? Any machine rust issues, etc.

This is the same coolant I had before, no rust issues for the past few years I’ve run it. Parts come out super shinny and the air actually smells better because of the new coolant 😜

what "clear" coolant are you running is it Blaser Synergy 735? Ive been running it in my Tormach and for the 1st year it was fine, now all the paint is pealing but I cant say I did not know the issues others have had with the 735 so I guess I'm now paying the price. I hate oil based coolants is yours non oil?

Plug it into a timer, it needs to run without the machine being powered up.

Fiddling with those loclines is fine but I bet a wash down hose would be nicer ! Right ? :')

Yes! That’s honestly something I’ve been trying to figure out how I want for a while, but haven’t really done anything about... do I want it (the hose) in the machine? Out of the machine? I should probably just do it and call it done 😆

@@bgwmachine Well I don't think it matters that much 🤔 Either way, it would be an improvement ! At school we have both type of implementation so I can share my experience. Having it outside is nice because the handle does not get wet and the hose can not get in the way of the machine table. But on the other hand, you have to manage the (usually longer) hose around the machine in a matter that does not bother the operator. If you go this rout, I strongly suggest a holder that has a little something to catch the occasional drop of coolant that come out of the gun after each use. On our machines, the holder is on the side of the console. It's dripping on top of a shop cart... Having it inside takes care of this, and it's also fine as your hands handling the parts will get wet at some point anyway. It's just not as nice when your switching back and forth between the front and side door to clean the machine.
