I'm considering doing this, but I have no idea about any of this and I'm certainly quite worried about the health effects and dangers of doing this. I assume lead-free rosin core solder works just as well?
I'm also not sure if this is something I can just do in my home...
Would you make a video recommending some brands for each equipment you used in the video. I want to learn soldering only to be capable of changing gba save batteries. :)
Nintendo was right turn it off and back on with my new 3ds xl
I know this video isn't exactly recent and for the regular 3DS xl, but I figured I might as well post a similar problem that I've been having here. So about a year ago I decided to open up my new 3DS xl which hadn't cut on in years and found that the solution at the time was pretty simple. I just had a ribbon cable that was disconnected and so I reconnected it and it worked like new. However not too long after I repaired in (a few weeks give or take) I started having problems again. I opened up the system and the ribbon cable that was causing the problem before is still connected, so I ruled out that the cable is the problem. The only sort of clue that I have to go off of with this problem is that whenever I try to power on the system the blue light stays on until reset and whenever I press down on the bottom right side of the system the battery light cuts on but only when the system is already on. I don't really expect this comment to go anywhere, but I figured I'd take my shot in the dark anyways. I would appreciate any suggestions if anyone has any idea what's wrong.
My first 3DS XL would do this unless the folding screen was at a very specific orientation. I'm definitely having this kind of problem, but I haven't touched the system for so long that the battery began going spicy pillow, so now it waits patiently in my closet with no battery :(
Thank you for this video and listing those possible mistakes. I would 100% have made some of those if I didn't watch this video. I am going to replace some batteries this weekend. I hope the soldering iron I ordered will work. It wasn't very expensive. I haven't soldered a lot myself, but I know how it should look like at least. That soldering on that Zelda game looked great.
Can you help me measuring resistance r9 and r10? or someone knows the value?
Can I just use flux to clean off the old solder instead of using 40/60 tin lead rosin core solder?
I had the same problem, the solution was to replace the camera
I could Watch This All Day😮😮😮
I prefer the hard disk! For me, the noises it makes are part of the iPod classic. Just like the crackling of a record player.
I can’t believe that I was searching “how to fix SMD pad” and you just made a video on how to fix EXACTLY the same board I’m working on and EXACTLY the capacitor same pad that broke on me. Haha! But in my case, both pads broke cause of oxidation. Thanks for the video!
Needs a game boy version, if that's even possible.
Hi, Great video! But I noticed a possible issue that I don't see anyone mentioned. The new battery is "reversed" from the original, meaning when you install it, you must bring the negative pin from the outside ring of the board flush into contact with the positive center of the board. All it takes is a scratch in the green solder mask beneath the battery to make a complete short circuit! Any thoughts on the risk of this? Thanks
So I took my sad card out, and it worked. But when I put it back in it messed up. How do I fix that?
This video is brilliant and guided me (soldering for the first time) through a job I would have never have taken on otherwise. Thank you!
Im guessing their are no battery mounts to prevent resoldering again? with how tight of a form factor it is?
Will this erase your Pokemon Game if you replace the battery? Or will this just affect the games clock?
I have a pokemon red game that has never had the ability to save since my brother bought it when we were kids. I want to attempt to fix it, and this really helped me understand the steps to do so. I've also never used a soldering iron before, so wish me luck!
Yeah but how'd you know where the trace was. I couldn't see it in this video. Tribal knowledge?
I dropped my 3DS XL and it turns on but nothing comes on the screen and the volume it just is on until it dies I don't know what to do but I really need help with this I have mine right next to me right now
NO WAY BRO YOU ACCTUALLY FIGURED IT OUT 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Who even uses the camera?
Brilliant stuff. My heart sank when I turned on the Game Boy I had as a kid to see a ton of lines missing. All fixed now thanks to this video!
THANK YOU SO MUCH, now it works just fine
When I was little, I heard the exploit of shaking your 3DS to get free play Coins so I did that and one of the chips fell off. Now, my 2d is like this
Bit late to the party but would it not be better to get a cr1616 battery holder in stead of a tabbed battery?
Nice!!! Good stuff. Thank you! Ya fingers were quite distracting but kept me watching 😂
you dont need flux. i been soldering for 15 years without. when i do try it i notice it doenst do anything other than get the board messy. heat transfers perfectly fine without it. you just need to know how to use your tools properly.
I'm no slouch when it comes to soldering and electronics, but this is, without a doubt, the most thorough tutorial I've seen on both the batteries AND the fake cart epidemic that's been going on for over a decade. Absolutely fantastic job, good sir!!
The little circular plastic peice popped out which way does it go back on and I’m scared to over tightening it
Just checking in to say this video was very helpful for me! Got my DMG-01 fixed right up! Thanks a lot!
My 3dsxl has this issue except the blue light stays on but the screens dont boot. Should i still try this or leave it be and find another solution?
Glad cartridges don't have battery save states today. Yikes. 🤯 How many people lost all their rare Pokémon?!
Bro i have same but in 🖤🖤 colour not even transparent 😊😊
highly recommend buying sockets and good batteries instead of the yellow pretabbed ones. those are notoriously iffy with longevity(easily dying within a year or two)
Fun fact even if you replace the battery on a GBA Pokémon game it won’t go back to the way it was before. Almost all of the events won’t Work. growing berries seeing mirage island the berrie master won’t work anymore because the original game battery has a RTC. The only events I’m aware of working are timed evolutions for certain Pokémon. Ruby emerald sapphire. These are the games effected by it. Fire red leaf green are not
So awesome ill use this when i replace mine not for years though as i bought them already newly replaced
I took out my old gameboy camera and turned it on to find all the pictures I took 25+ years ago are gone, pictures of my grandparents, cousins, friends faces gone 😢 will this work to recover all those lost photos?
What size tri wing screwdriver do you need?
could i glue the tags to a custom figure after i scan them? Im thinking of making my own figures for splatoon :) im just worried the glue may mess them up
looks like is $40 now
I honestly thought the screen was a goner until I watched this. Thank you!
I didn’t even knew they had batterys-
I'm a bit late to the party but how hot is your soldering iron when using desolder braid ? It looks so easy when you do it, but mine just keep sticking to the PCB with the solder ><'
Oooh im going to check my romhack bootlegs to see if they have similar soldering points for the battery
501st comment
My 3ds XL only showed the charging light, not even the blue light but THIS VIDEO BROUGHT IT BACK TO LIFE 🖤 Thank you so much for the super comprehensive fix guide!! The way mine got working again was by removing game cartridge, sd card, disconnecting wifi and infrared components AND disconnect the Cameras. Then I connected everything back EXCEPT the Camera and it freaking worked!!!!

How to make a ps2 game ?
Finally, someone showing the correct way. Thanks!
