    It looks way better than before, but I wouldn’t say it looks better than the original. I just really like the glittery plastic of the original cartridge

    Pro tip: to replace a battery in a Gameboy Color game without losing the save data, you have to insert the cartridge into your Gameboy with the shell half open so that you can access the battery. You then want to power it on and load up the game, so click "continue" (in the case of Pokemon games). Then, you want to do all the normal steps of replacing the battery, while making sure it stays in the Gameboy and powered on at all times. This ensures there's a consistent flow of power to the PCB. Once it's installed, you can turn the game off and take it out, and now the save data should still be fine. And, of course, you only need to worry about this for GBC games. GBA games don't need battery power to keep the save data persistent. If you have any backup tools that can dump/flash save data from GBC games, then you could always just back up your save, do a normal battery swap, then flash it back onto the cart, but most people don't have those so the above method should work fine.

    6:10 I have to ask, why "using Kapton tape for insulation"? Does it protect the motherboard's back or prevents something? On the other hand, amazing video, dude!

  • @KyleAwsm

    @KyleAwsm

    Good question! The Kapton tape is for insulating the PCB against the metal shell so it doesn't cause a short. Thanks so much for watching! 🙂👍🏻

    Because its basically slapping a PCB into a different cartridge and replacing the battery which is a very basic task. The video didn't need to be the length it is.

    Just an FYI aluminum doesn’t rust but it does oxidize

  • @KyleAwsm

    @KyleAwsm

    3 жыл бұрын

    This is a technicality - Though it doesn't flake away as iron oxide/rust does, both iron and aluminum do oxidize. So it is still considered "rust" from a practical standpoint. Thanks for your comment and for watching! 🙂👍🏻

    @@KyleAwsm Nah, they're both oxidation, but only one is rust. The one that contains iron.

    Now to find a crazy person who makes Gold (real gold) GBA and GBC shells. That’s the only way this video could be more crazy good. Also another question, does the gameboy light work with Pokémon Silver and Gold’s “mysterygift” feature with the IR sensor?

  • @KyleAwsm

    @@KyleAwsm Can you test that out for me? Mystery Gift is the only way to obtain “Miracle Berry” in the Gen 2 pokemon games. If you want help or a partner with a GBC with a working Infrared game boy (unmodded) and another GBC Gen 2 game, I can assist you. But I’d like to know the answer to this question. Reach out to me if you’re interested.

    has anyone ever considered using conductive glue/adhesive to replaced gb and gbc cart batteries? before u say "no u dummy" my reasoning is that this new after market batteries from china are only lasting around 2 years at most. batteries that i have replace using the tape method and either a Duracell or Energizer branded batterie last much longer.
