Something I barely glossed over in this video is WHY you separate the plastics from metals during cleaning. Depending on who you ask and what articles you find online, you'll hear that vinegar can/can't damage ABS and other plastics. In my experience, it can cause the plastic's color to fade if left to soak (and for too long). So, while you do need the vinegar to neutralize the battery "acid", try not to soak plastic parts IN vinegar if you can help it, and always clean up the residue with IPA. I have a Pokemon emerald cartridge that Drains a cr 1616 battery in 24-48 hrs, I've already burned through 4 batteries and I don't know what it could be, anyway you might be able to give guidance? Thanks in advance.

high concentration alcohol can damage *some* plastics as well. It's relatively rare that it happens but I usually keep alcohol away from plastics just to be sure.

Good job! I like the attention to detail with cleaning the work space. A lot of people seem to forget that important step.

It’s why I use NiMH in my gameboys now. Less likely to leak. Lost a lot of flashlights though....those are harder to clean due to the nature of cylindrical shape.

On another topic, I'm pretty sure I have purchased a restored purple gameboy color and pokemon silver from you. Oh my god thank you! My dad gave me his old gameboy Advance and I really wanted to use it since I just got all 5 of the Gameboy Advance Pokemon games for it but the batteries leaked and I thought it was permanently broken!

Great video as always love the detailed instructions, attention to detail, and work you put into every video. I will have to give these methods mentioned in your video a try for sure. Can you only use white vinegar or is it more or less a recommendation? Would you be able to use other types of vinegar?

Thanks so much, man! 😊 Distilled white vinegar is pretty safe compared to other types of vinegar, like red wine vinegar, etc. The latter can actually be even more damaging to plastics. So since distilled white vinegar is so inexpensive, and it's tried and true for this kind of work, it's usually the safe bet. Thanks so much for watching, brother! 😎👍🏻

Hi, your videos are awesome. I see you use IPA to clean those flux and pcb board. Is it possible to use ethanol absolute do the same thing as IPA? Cause I can easily get high concentration alcohol at chemist's shop (compared to IPA).

Yup, it should be just fine to use ethanol/ethyl alcohol as a cleaning solvent for PCB's. Just make sure you wear gloves, or it could dry out your hands. Thanks for watching!

2:07 - is it better to use plastic tools here?

I’m just gonna be a know-it-all and let you know it’s actually not battery acid it’s a base. Bases and acids cancel each other out. Vinegar’s acidic, that’s why you use it to neutralize the potassium hydroxide. If this was a car battery you would use baking soda (a base) to neutralize the sulfuric acid. Nickel Cadmium batteries also use potassium hydroxide as the electrolyte so you CAN use vinegar to neutralize leakage from those batteries. Just spreading the knowledge so people can be safe with batteries.

Ok this is completely off topic from the video but I have been watching your channel for a while and stumbled upon a video on how to give a save battery to fake Pokémon games I have a fake emerald that seems to be different from the ones you went over is there any way you could maybe look at my copy through a picture on social media and tell me if I could mod it if that works that would be greatly appreciated but if not don’t worry it’s all good
