Well done, awesome repair, personally though i would have just swapped over the mask rom, eprom and missing resistors. No need to swap the CIC etc

True! I just felt it made it more complete in a way. All of the original cart contents together on one board, ya know?

Classic game man! I’m glad they are finally porting it over to Xbox one game pass, and the Nintendo switch online services.

Could this method of desoldering the chips potentially work for cartridges of the SNES, the gameboy line and DS? And wow, I didn't know there could be something useful for shovelware games.

Bingo! My video before this one shows a similar process for an SNES game, specifically the removal of an SRAM chip to replace it with something else. 🙂 Surface-mounted (SMD) components, like on handheld carts, are a bit different and require using a lot of flux and a hot air station instead to accomplish removal. Thanks for watching!

I was looking forward to you fixing the board. Could you solder on both sides to make it stronger?

  • @nostalgiaflipnfix

Unfortunately, no. The primary purpose of solder is to securely connect metal components to complete an electrical circuit and is not meant for structural use. Most solder is very maleable so it wouldn’t add much strength to the break.

Thank you both! :) I've gotten a lot of questions about the structural integrity of a board being repaired that way, and I agree with denizen.az - Solder isn't meant to be used that way. Although I may do that just for funsies in a video at some point. Cheers!

"...followed by the tiny eeprom chip" Me: *laughs in QFN SMD package sizes* Great revival though but no need to have moved the resistors or capacitor over

for some reason I cant watch, YT is freezing up trying to launch ads, I watch and click them for you, but YT is boning it, I can hardly get the video to play, I feel like it's 2002 or some shiz. You DESERVE MORE VIEWS but YT can't keep up and only favors large creators whose videos and ads work seamlessly.

Hey, I appreciate you trying to get the video and ads to work. Not sure what's up with the ads for you, but they seem to be working fine for everyone else right now. If you're using Chrome, check if you have any junk extensions installed that could be causing issues with ads, and if all else fails then try restarting your computer. I've had issues like this in the past, and they eventually get worked-out. Sorry you're having problems! If all else fails, try an ad blocker.

The Hakko FR-301 desolder gun is about $240 - $250 on Amazon nowadays. Thanks for watching!

You don't need a electric one like Kyle's. There are manual vacuum pump (like a regular soldering iron with a built in spring loaded vacuum pump) ones for around 20 bucks or there are cheaper than hakko electric ones too for like 70 bucks
