10:21-10:22 man-eating piano scary me still to this day. B3313 rom hack of super mario 64 is more creepy and scary than original super Mario 64
Personally I think Pokey inhereited Gygas's madness.
The one that makes me feel the way you talk about is minecraft's ost, c418's music is absolutely amazing
Okay, so about the guy in the box: how the hell did he use the bathroom?
This is very I'm 15 and this is deep 💀💀 No one that actually played the game felt or thought any of this. Literally everything is such a reach 😭 but hey attributing "scary" to something that's not supposed to be scary gets views so 💀
What is OST? Fn new guy over here. I am a musician though for like 20 years.
Even though David Wise came back for Tropical Freeze, I really wasn't that impressed by the soundtrack. The man clearly peaked in DKC2 but it was a hell of a peak.
Madchester: the game
16:34 How did you even find a picture of her? She said before she doesn't like having her personal identity revealed online
Excellent video! Came recommended to me as I was listening to some DKC and DKC2 tunes. You are totally right: The music of David Wise is special. Mining Melancholy is one of my absolute favorites (next to the more popular choices), glad you mentioned it as well. There are few games where I've felt the same connection to the music and its role in the game. One example for me is Return of the Obra Dinn for which game creator Lucas Pope himself wrote the music. Can't recommend it enough if you haven't played.
I think it could be the combination of abuse from his parents and being influenced by Gygas (the being's influence works on animals and humans alike) Also as somebody pointed out he never became tame, not through fighting, as he fled in the middle of the battle at the end of EB. Though what happened to every other creature corrupted by Gygas (those we skip over)? Did they return to normalcy once Gygas was defeated? If so why wouldn't Porky act normal again? Either he was too far gone because of how close he got to Gygas or he chose to continue being a horrible person after "being tamed".
Kid me was scared of the Boo at the end of the hallway to the door that leads to the courtyard. He just floats there...MENACINGLY.
The original Mother 1 ads might not have been great at the time but I guarantee today they are looked upon with much admiration. They have this very atmospheric mystique to them not found in many other ad campaigns, especially for what was considered a children's toy. In a post Stranger Things world, and how lucrative nostalgia mixed with a light unsettling creepiness is, these ads are extremely intriguing to many different demographics which is the whole point of a advertisement to begin with.
Am I the only one that sees the similarities between Frieza and Giygue?
Is Giygas supposed to look like a distorted face that's screaming?
You and I are the same, my friend. Your passion for the the DKC ost and the DKC 2 ost - it’s like you’re reading out of my diary. They very much inspired me to start writing music. Them and OOT.
I'm old enough to have got this when it came out when I was 12, and I have genuinely never found this game disturbing or creepy. I think this is a generational thing. You're all used fully fleshed out worlds and textures so when you see something like this, it's creepy to you.
Ninten Knew about ness because his father told him
One of my favorite pieces of evidence for Ninten being Buzz Buzz is this line from Giegue: "Foolish one, you cannot do a thing with your meager powers... Powers worthy of a lowly insect." It mirrors the Starman Jr.’s dialogue in Earthbound perfectly, and it makes me think that Giegue was the one who turned Ninten into an insect.
Presenting new ideas on old games certainly has an interesting take on the past. I wonder if sometimes people can make these games with these things in mind: "How does this, or will this, transform minds in the future? Against what backdrops could something like this happen with?" I wonder certainly.
Cave makes the best bullet patterns and the single bullet color from the enemies really help when you're focusing on dodging
Well, what’s the first sound you hear after you open the door? 😈

I think you're exactly right. If it were released as an Indy game today it would be praised. Back then all people seemed to care about were bits, blast processing, and how cool any game looked. Games were not often seen as an adjunct to films or reading. Pushing the limit on video games is what sold video games. Now we seemingly have no limits and people are realizing the magic that can come from something seemingly so simple yet truly so complex. Simply put, Earthbound was ahead of its time.
I always assumed Ness being chosen was a happy little accident, while the others were more destined in their part
You should definitely try the rom hack b3313 it definitely shows the creepiness of the castle and the urban legends
What's weird is that Giygas's lair looks like organ pathways or tentacles. Then, as you get to the end of it, not only the devil's machine has Ness's face on it, but it also surprisingly looks like a woman's va*ina or u*erus. Not sure if that fits the theory, but it's pretty disturbing.
almost criminal to not have Dark Man and Air man in the top 10 if not the top 5, too many Wily songs for my liking, decent list none the less
dude you really searched for a video topic idea lol
Tell me who jeffs real name was damn it
Damn I'm glad I found this video. You probably won't see this, but I loved it. Donkey Kong Country 2 has one of the best soundtracks of all time imo and I love hearing other people go in depth with how much they love it, I think you love it even more than I do haha! But seriously, I love what you said at the end. Music is special, it's an amazing artform and I absolutely adore music that is able to affect me the way that game's music has, the kind of music that makes me shed a tear, the kind of music that makes me feel like in that moment I understand exactly what the artist/creator was trying to convey. There's countless OSTs that make me feel that way, and everytime I listen to them, they make me realize just how beautiful, no, just how GORGEOUS music can be. Truly special. Great vid!
As a kid i always got shooked by the game over screen.
The game is fine to me but those cursed IMAGES... my heart dropped pls don't do that again
I never got this game for my 64 and never liked it. Uncanny valley. Definitely lonely feeling.
I have a question, why does Mario have 2 different running animations? Whenever I play the actual game he leans forward but I remember when I would play on my computer he would lean backwards which I like more
The only terrifying thing of Mario 64 is not being able to ride Yoshi.
Any of these army men games NEED remastered!
ARMA paid ode to Army Men recently and did an army men server it was fun(RTS was my favorite)

Donkey Kong Country is my earliest memory of video game music that has left an emotional impact on me. Of course i played alot of Mario World, All Stars, Sonic 2, and other games back then, but Donkey Country and its sequels are the first games where the music was so good i found myself pausing my snes just to listen to certain songs on loop and purposely going through levels for the music. Later games for the ps1 like the Spyro the Dragon Trilogy and Frogger: He's Back will give me similar feelings due to how much atmosphere, melodies, and interesting sounds the soundtrack goes through. The ps1 in general had so many ganes that made me appreciate the work that goes into video soundtracks.
the castle is a Masonic lodge
It is innocent as we remember it’s just people love adding stupid conspiracies
The most creepy thing for me in video games are the low res textures
This concept of Mario 64 being creepy is simply a mind virus. The idea of this game being creepy never once crossed my mind, conscious or subconscious, until now, when I've watched some stupid video about it and now I can't get it out of my head. Thanks for ruining a childhood classic...a-hole.
Spongebob baby roller coaster gif
yep also a shitload of people making this forced horror into garry's mod
Ok so the first 5 things you said arent even true or a reason. Your talkiny about shit like mario not smiling lol ??? Nothing in this video is an limited space or intention. Ive never seen so much made up stuff in a video in my life lol. All your doing is just askiny pointless questions
I don't feel any of this makes SM64 creepy, but I now undertand why it feels so dream-like in a unique way Edit to add: it may actually be because of the dream-like quality, that SM64 taught me how to swim in real life in a way. I didn't understand it at first, and I was crap at water levels. Then I had a dream about the game where I realised there is a rhythm to it. The next day I could finally clear the secret stage next to dire dire docks without drowning and oddly enough, after that dream taught me to swim in the game, I kind of got it in real life too for the first time.
It's crazy to believe that 4 years have passed since the Gigaleak and the revival in popularity of Super Mario 64. This video is by far the best attempt at explaining why rhis game gives a feeling of sadness and slight dread to some of us. For many years I believed I was the only one who felt that and thought maybe I was crazy but glad to see there are more people that also have that feeling, I dont feel so alone now. I'd go as far to say it's not just Mario 64 but other games made by Nintendo themselves from around that era, I remember the first Animal Crossing for the Gamecube and Luigi's Mansion also produced that feeling in me.
idk if you think this is "liminal" and creepy you have to be gen z
20 titles in 6 years is too much for one franchise, and it shows with the quality of the titles overtime. This is why 3DO was no longer around since 2003 or 4. They should've focused on making fewer games and on different franchises instead of milking to what was arguably their mascot franchise too soon.
