I like the way you set this up a lot. Also, Speaking of someone who has just started using terrain in my games, you Made a really important point about how much of Dwarven Forge looks identical

It seems the minimalistic style is what I always did over the decades. I never had a lot of miniatures and terrain, they never felt necessary, because we play a lot of Call of Cthulhu where combat is not an important thing. What I feel is necessary, though, are good props and handouts. Those things act as my campfire and replace figurines and maps. Recently I created a GM toolkit, basically a plastic container that holds my notebook, dice, pens and a few coins, markers and wooden meeples from an old Monopoly game board. The lid acts as a dice tray and with a dungeon floor in it, should we need to visualise distances. Most times we just put them out on the table, though. The remaining space is used up by a deck of GME cards and a deck of playing cards, as well as the TN in card form. Some Initiative cards I nicked from Vaesen. Overall, everything fits into an A5 plastic box, which is quite portable.

It's one of the fundamentally flawed assumptions of the modern game. The mathematics of 5e might be very balanced and even, but in doing so they completely remove the entire point of finding a magic sword or a scroll. If you aren't creating asymmetry in your game, you aren't creating the fundamental presumption of success and failure being one roll away.

Really cool to see your plan and thought process years ago and what came true and what changed course! Covid made you think about how important being with each other was so you really started what will obviously be the best place in the world for gathering around our hobby! Interesting too how excited you were about color, thankfully to my taste the next flagship product in crown and skull is beautiful and I love showing it off to my friends and family who are not necessarily in this world. Cheers on everything you’ve accomplished 🤘🏼

Absolutely the best intro yet. I forgot I was listening to rpg mainframe and thought it was audible.

This marks the end of my journey with this channel, and with you as a creator. What a prodigious crock of shit - you didn't feel like writing the 3rd edition, and so you created a bunch of reasons why you shouldn't do it!? That is the most immature bullshit I've heard in a very long time. I regret ever spending time or money on you.

Two things: Firstly, your discussion of mindset reminded me of my own mindset internal discussion. My mindset has personally shifted away from the word "content". I don't like making "content". Content is such a social media term - it makes me think of cheaply and easily made and easily consumed (and forgotten) videos, like let's plays or podcasts where the hosts just chat about whatever. I wanna do better at making *adventures* and *tools* and *creatures* and *mechanics* . Secondly, I feel ya on the COVID thing. Even though I'm vaxxed and nobody in public is wearing a mask basically- I do deeply miss meeting people IRL for stuff like DnD and Magic the Gathering. Online versions are fun and all- but it's not quite the same.

I don’t mind TPK in games where you can roll up a character real fast

I’ve seen DMs who say they don’t fudge rolls, but then they arbitrate on something that equates to a fudge. So I would say, whatever you choose: be consistent. Don’t lie to your players as well as yourself.

I disagree about 'didn't roll dice = didn't play game'. Detective or puzzle game like CoC, ToC didn't rely on dice roll but the ability of players to solve the case. Wonder what anyone else thinks about this?

Honesty is a basic part of a high-trust group. I also prefer to have player-facing rolls. After all I'm the DM, and I can already have anything happen with a wave of my hands. Suddenly a horde of zombies attack!
