I love this topic and it made me realize that I prefer to run qualia games. Not just because I don’t have time for regular games in a campaign, but because what I like about GM-ing is invoking feelings into my players. The movie The Lighthouse is a good example of a “quaila” horror movie I think. The “narrative” is just “one or possibly both men on an island lose their mind” but oh boy does that movie invoke some emotion! (and it doesn’t really have any jump scares)

I mean, we are all getting this algo-rhith-miacus over/ordicus into shape 😅

It's illustrative that in describing the qualia of a taco, you described things that many people don't associate with tacos. Lettuce and cheese at taco bell, sure, but the all best tacos I've ever had have meat, onions, cilantro, hot chile sauce, and lime. If the qualia you shoot for doesn't match the players' expectations then it will fall flat.

The banana may be gone, in the next session, but there must be a why!

Thanks for another great video. I love seeing how your mind works and trying to steal bits here and there for my own campaigns.

I like the idea of working qualia in. But I do see what you mean by it not working as well if you trip over your words even a little

Listening to this over several days definitely left me feeling this conversation went over my head. What do I take away from this, other than that it is hard to get players to engage emotionally, but how do I as a game master break down that ironic distance players put up between the events of the game and themselves? I do not know.
