Gain Conceptual Command of Your Session! | RPG Mainframe

Ойындар

I stumble on a new way to attain conceptual command of my session prep, rather than deeper, more detailed note-taking and re-processing. Write, forget, write again, remember.

I find myself actually doing this before every session. Writing down the main thoughts of what the next session is going to be about is extremely helpful to me to eliminate the "crazies" and calm my own anxiety.

Your example about condensing 5E monster stat blocks into a concept was exactly what I needed. I had been struggling to enjoy running 5E monsters because of the density, but this will help me in being able to focus more on their themes.

As it turns out, I have been doing this, especially for King Arthur Pendragon. I have to work from memory because I cannot multitask. Looking things up during a session is practically impossible, let alone bad form.

Hey I don't normally comment on vids. Idk if you read comments at all or the reason for potentially switching to no camera (might not feel up to it etc), so I'm not intending this comment to be as something you don't know already: I saw the channel pop up again 2 days ago because of the Dex Save Dan video you did. I think you have great visual presence and looking at the views of Runehammer, suspect that others enjoy seeing you as well. KZread stopped showing me your content after the change. Hope everything's all good and good to see you're still making vids all the same 👍

I don't think it should be about over written monsters - monsters SHOULD be over written ... in the Bestiary. That's inspiration gold right there. What we need is better education around how to pull out only the monster details you need to make a particular scene interesting. I love a whole page of monster design, but what I bring to the table is absolutely tiny in comparison.

Bob world builder did a great podcast on bullet-pointing your monsters a week ago people should check out if they want some ideas on how to pair down all that extra info to something useable at the table.

I'm a musician: this is good advice for a musician who needs to improvise also. 😊

Very insightful. I habitually over prep, this podcast could be renamed ‘Be Confident’. Thanks.
