The hard route to learning this lesson is prepping a ton for a session (or even a whole campaign) and your players not following your route. You could railroad them but if you want to control the characters, write a book. No matter what you do, your players will choose a different route. You prepped for them to go right through the sewer? Well, they managed to squeeze through the bars and they're going left. Minimal prep goes a long way towards freeing up your mental capacity and expectations for the session... Let your creativity flow in the moment: you may not have an answer for every mystery you present until the next session but that's where things get interesting. As always, thanks for the wisdom

This exactly what i needed to hear right now! For the last two-three months i was looknig into my prep and was tryig to find the "technique" or method to make the game flow better or engage players better - however i just realized that i went too deep into emchanics to be able to see the big picture man.... thing is i used to be relaxed while playing, but deeper i got into the game rules, the more my mind became cluttered with mechanics rather than fun of the game... such an awesome podcast, thanks man :) love it, keep up the amazing work! :)

In a sense, letting go of all of the baggage we GMs call "prep" is kind of like being Jack Reacher: unfettered by worldly possessions (aside from his toothbrush) and going where his feet take him.

More of this! As game masters we need to let go of this clutch of my game world, my soul responsibility to entertain everyone at the table, and shift to a mindset of its our game world and we are responsible to ensure we all have fun at the table. Through the spirit of collaboration everyone can contribute to the fun, to the world building, and encounter design so they everyone is included and everyone shares in the responsibility of creating fun.
