Wish you showed more of your Art, instead of talk, talk TALKING. Art is about images and watching artist creating a piece speaks Louder than all the endless WORDS. Why not be a writer if talking, reading is your passion.
It may not be for you, but many people enjoy words and art. Art can be many things. It comes down to taste. Maybe silent KZread channels might be more enjoyable for you and that’s fine, but thats not what you’ll find here. I won’t be changing my path as I’m happy being a chatty artist that reads books.
I think I'm missing the bigger kitchen table to actually work on! I've been feeling cramped on a smaller desk type table.
Such a gorgeous bright space Laura, inspired to go paint! I love the idea of having everything out and available to use, I find it’s easy to forget what i have available. (It may even help tame my addiction to art supplies 😂)
I really love the Kuretake water colours
So my obsessive compulsive disorder of putting absolutely everything away and out of sight in a very organized fashion may be inhibiting my creative process??
I love this idea of actually seeing what you have, it means they get used. I’m currently organising a creative area in the living room because we have a new puppy, and this has given me ideas. Now I just need some time lol
Very helpful. Thank you. My favorite is 140 cold press Arches.
Hello! I really loved this video - looking through your sketch book. This cemented into my mind the need to just play in a sketchbook. To use it to see what ideas might come up. Then be able to use those ideas for a piece of art. I think I've really been missing the boat by not using a sketchbook to get me further into my art processes - if this makes sense🤔😊Thanks Laura. You are always an inspiration! Susan in AZ🥰🏜️
Thank you for sharing your beautiful space. I find it inspiring if I ever go big in my art space. I find it intimidating, but it looks so beautiful it might be worth the effort some day. Btw, I also look for inexpensive papers to play and reserve my cotton paper for the finished pieces but, I would love to play in cotton paper too.
I decided a while ago that I wanted to "live in an art studio." I'm in a cabin far from town, but in a tiny hamlet with a population of about 16. I rarely get visitors, and painting is what I do most days, so my living space now has 2 chairs for sitting in one small corner, there is 1 wall of kitchen, and the rest is art studio! (I do have a separate bedroom.) I'm still trying to figure out the best layout as the room is a little awkward, and natural light only comes from one area, but I keep fine-tuning and visualuzing possibilities. So every video like this helps me think of ideas. This was helpful! Thanks, Laura!
It’s fun and inspiring to see how other artist organize their creative “corner”! Thanks for sharing.
I lay the clingwrap flat onto the wet paint and then scrunch it up into shapes. It makes lovely flowers!
Hello! I’ve bought today the Fabriano sketchbook because of your last video and I am going to have it for the watercolour abstracts as you do😊 this is how inspiration spreads 😃
This was fabulous Laura! I love how you are using the utility cart for your journals and substrates! My biggest organizational challenge has been organizing my collage papers and many substrates (different types for making collage papers as well as for actually making collages, journals, etc.)….do you have a method of organizing papers?
Love seeing how another artist lays out her space and what a great idea with the carts!!! Much appreciated!!! I need to get things off the floor and my eyes crave clean spaces! Thank you Laura❤
This is so good, what a gorgeous space ☺☺
Excellent video as always ! 🎨
Super helpful and inspiring vid🎉just like YOU and your classes. Thanks so much, Laura💦
Yes
Great idea for swatches on individual pieces of paper rather than in a book! What paper are you using for your swatches? 😊
I love your videos. This one was so helpful! I often felt bad for having my things all on the surface of a table. It is so nice to see that you work in this way. I also love seeing everything that I have, so I can get into, rather than putting things away and bringing them onto again. Thank you for this inspiration!!! I loved your Mixed Media course. :)
Thank you ! I need to get more organized ....could you talk about lighting please . I'm working in an area of my living room that does not get much light . I use a cheap 3 bulb lamp but it still is not going well . Any tips ? I would invest in other types if I knew what would work in a windowless area.
Loving the way you set up your space. I've taken many of your classes, too. Daniel Smith is a bit out of my budget and I have the Kuetaki, but they are quite opaque. can you suggest a transparent watercolor palette?
I also save my Arches paper for painting rather than practice. It's too expensive to use to just practice! Have you tried Baohong watercolor paper? They have Academy (student grade and Artist grade, which are both very nice papers, and much more inexpensive. Both are 100% cotton in both cols and hot press. Hope you give it a try. I think you will be pleasantly pleased ❤ Betsy
Thanks Laura for sharing your workspace, the how and why you have. These sorts of videos are really insightful and useful for us at home.
Nice, thank you for sharing. When I was an art teacher (retired now), included in my Rubic, was teaching students how to arrange their work space for maximum success.
I love the spread you did in yellow. What is the botanical you added? I love the shape of this. Thank you for sharing your art with us.
Love the sunny room you have
Really helpful, thanks!
So many great ideas! Thank you so much❤️
That was great timing Laura. I’m in the process of turning my office into a reading room + art area. I have a white trolley that isn’t being used, so now I know what to do with it. Thank you very much!😊
So interesting…many thanks.
Wow! What a great space. You have really inspired me to change my set up, so THANK YOU! PS, I love your work! Thanks for sharing!
😂! Yay for trolleys!
I've recently created a sketchbook that's just for my paint swatches. It has 100% cotton cold press watercolor paper in it. I also have another sketchbook that I swatch out pencils and markers and write notes in, that has lighter hot press paper in it. I don't mind using one of my good watercolor sketchbooks for swatches and mixes as I was doing these throughout my normal sketchbooks anyway and probably repeating things in different books. I'm finding it so much easier having everything in those two books instead of, like you said, searching through various finished sketchbooks trying to find painting notes, ideas and swatches. They also seem to have cleared my workspace of little scraps of paper with partial meaningless notes on them.
Sounds LOVELY
This is such a great idea, beginning to wonder why I didn't do that 🤔 Though, I do quite like being able to look at different sheets at once. I might end up swatching them all in one single sketchbook too. More swatching days ahead I reckon 🎨🤣
@@LauraHornArt Swatching is fun 😆 I've swatched by color not brand so all my greens are together, all my blues etc. Some colors feature twice through the book like transparent yellow oxide. I have it in with the yellows and also with the earth colors. Cascade green is a granulating color which shows as both green and blue so it's in with my greens and turquoises. My quinacridone burnt orange is in with the oranges and also the earth colors because I use it as my burnt sienna.
@@LauraHornArtWhy both ideas are great! Swatch books could be used when on the go, traveling or outdoor sketching. While your posters of swatches when in your creative studio at home base.
Love it. Great video ⭐️
It resonated with me when you said it was a cozy feel having your table set up to your needs. I only work from my small desk and keep various mediums close at hand similar to you. Lately I've been on a mixed media craze so of course I have the pens, inks, paints, etc. within reach. Edited to add: I love DS watercolors.
Sitting down in a cosy space always inspires me and even though things get chaotic as I work, I often tidy up and reset so I can have that yummy feeling of fresh possibility again! It's a bit of a challenge, though, once you move into mixed media and have to manage so many different types of supplies!! Hope ur having fun with it!
@@LauraHornArt Girl I hear ya! Yes I'm having fun for sure!
Love it. Great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the great ideas and for the encouragement to spend time on our studios!
You are so welcome! That's exactly what I hoped for with this video ✨
I agree. When I set up my art space in a way that I like I am more inspired to create. Love what you did!!
It's amazing how a few little tweaks can make such a big difference to how a space feels and flows. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Love the palette you're using....do you have a link for that?
Your art is so inspirational! ❤
I enjoy your teachings, your art & these videos so much‼️. Thank You❣️❣️❣️❣️
You are a big inspiration. I love that you shared your sketchbook pages. Thank you.
I always love when you share your sketchbook pages and notes. I’m so inspired! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your sketchbook with us. Love to see how excited you are about experimenting longer. Sometimes we get caught up in the process and forget to enjoy each part. I listened to this episode of the podcast twice and really loved it. Very insightful and glad to hear you are not caving to the Instagram pressure to do reels. I think they probably have their place in social media, but at 57, I find them frustrating for anything that I really want to spend time to LOOK at, and art is one of those things I want to take my time enjoying. Love your work and your gentle, mindful way, Laura.
Thank you for showing how to paint negative space. I have seen various artists on IG use this technique in their work and wondered how it was achieved. Love this botanical piece and the colour palette ♥️🌿
Very informative and articulate presentation
