There are various options for this exercise. You don't have to paint a solid background or work on a grid if you don't want to. The main idea is to think about the imagery (or, if you don't use imagery, you could focus on mark-making) that you want to bring into your paintings. To get ideas, take a look around your home, garden, neighbourhood, and any previous paintings you have. Or just doodle from your imagination.
For my background, I used Golden Heavy Body Acrylic Paint in Jenkins Green. For the drawings, I am using a Posca water-based paint pen in gold (PC-1MR, 0.7mm).
I hope you enjoy the process as much as I do. It's very relaxing, and at the end, you will have a handy resource to refer back to when making art!

I am loving this series, I can't thank you enough. Due to too many things to list that would bore you, these latest videos have been *right* up my alley. THANK YOU!
Such a great idea to have a single dedicated ideas book. I'm always digging through old sketchbooks to find things I was happy with that I want to reuse.
Love the gold and green,super nice.very inspiring challenge,makes me slow down a bit,thank you….

Lovely ideas. Thank you Laura.
Love this idea.
This was a lot of fun to do! And I realized that I prefer the smaller posca pen nibs...my gold is a 3mm. It worked, but I think I would like the smaller tip. Thanks Laura!
