Testing Out Daniel Smith Luminescent Watercolour Paints ✨

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

For a long time, I've been wanting to expand my Daniel Smith collection to include more luminescent paints. While I don't often use luminescent paints on their own, I love to mix them into other colours or use them as part of the layering process in my abstract paintings to add shimmer and dimension. In this video, I test out quite a few colours on both normal and black paper and talk through different ways you might use the colours.
Have you used Daniel Smith's Luminescent Watercolors in your own art journey? Comment below your favourite Luminescent Watercolour or any questions you might have about this medium. I'd love to add more to my collection.
And if you're eager to take your creativity to the next level, don't forget to check out my signature course, "Modern Mixed Media," where you will learn how to combine mixed media with watercolour to create stunning abstract and nature-inspired art. Thank you for sharing your testing with the metallic colors and mixing them for us. I have never used color paper and now I feel comfortable to try.

Loved watching you swatch your new colours. Especially enjoyed seeing the mixes that you created. I already have the Autumn Mystery and Hibiscus. Sapphire and Ruby look beautiful mixed together and as well as in their true form.

Oh my gosh, so informative. I'm loving the hibiscus and ruby and think I'm going to order those for sure. From another video of yours I ordered the Autumn Mystery but haven't fallen in love with it yet. Now I know I will by mixing it as you did with the Hibiscus. Love that combination so much! Thank you for sharing your talent. Can't wait to try these new colors! 🧡💗

So happy you found the video inspiring. Definitely try mixing your Duochrome Autumn Mystery into other colours. It has quite a strong copper colour and shimmer and I personally prefer it when mixed with something else. Ruby and Hibiscus are both gorgeous!! They surprised me in a good way :)

So fun, thanks for sharing! Has anyone tried putting these paints into pans and using them from dried pans instead of from the tubes??

I just purchased the Autumn Mystery and haven't used it yet. Great to hear your take on that color. Liked the Ruby you sampled as well.

Thank you, I wan't expecting to love them ALL, but they are all different to colours that I already have! I can see myself using them a lot.

It would have been nice to have seen the duochrome paints also swatched on black paper as they are a different color on black paper than on the white.

I love all your videos and classes. I am hoping to be able to join the Modern Mixed Media Course, it sounds like a lot of fun and inspirational. I have several of the Duochrome and Iridescent and tend to mainly use them to mix in with a base color. I added Pearl White to my collection to mix with colors to give them a little shimmer and to tone down some of the colors.

Thanks for your lovely comment! That's the way I have used Duochrome Autumn Mystery, I find it a bit much on it's own - but wow, mixed with other colours - just beautiful! Might have to think about adding the Pearl White :)

My favourite black watercolour paper , and the one I would recommend you give a try, is Stonehenge Aqua Black Cold press watercolour paper. It is the first 100% cotton black watercolour paper, and is gorgeous to work with.

Daniel Smith watercolours are beautiful but you have to practically mortgage your house to buy them.
