Ninja 250 Motorcycle Maintenance
Ninja 250 Motorcycle Maintenance
Kawasaki Heavy Industries made the "fourth generation" Ninja 250 for five years in the United States (2008-2012) before replacing it with the very similar Ninja 300 (2013-2017), which was then replaced with the Ninja 400 (2018-present). This channel is devoted to providing a visual aid for do-it-yourself enthusiasts who want to attempt maintenance, repair, or learn about places to find the best deals on OEM parts, tools, and everything related to a 2011 Ninja 250.

Thanks for uploading this. It was very informative and useful. Saves me buying a new caliper too. Great work!
hi i might have just missed it but what was the torque of the cam cap and side cap bolts at the beginning of the video
I don't think that I stated it because I wanted to encourage people to get a service manual before attempting this work. In any case, it is 106 in-lb.
250 on a highway scaaaarrrrryyyy
I've put about 30,000 miles on my Ninja 250 on the freeway.
Wow That’s amazing
Excelentemente explicado
Are you sure it only goes 91mph
great video man, thank you
9:50 you should read up on the anti cease though, plugs now are coated and you shouldnt use it.
0:20 Im gonna watch this video and hope that anti cease is not going on the plugs
So my son just bought a 2012 250 ninja & just starting to learn with him about this iconic bike. So what is the bolt on the outside of the oil filter plate "that isn't the drain bolt"? I ask because someone else said that was indeed the drain bolt! Always wise to trust but verify!
I've seen multiple sites & videos stating the bolt just outside of the oil filter plate is indeed the drain plug which is rather interesting & now I need the actual diagram.
@@harvestblades I have performed about 10 or 11 oil changes on my 2011 Ninja 250, just performed one a couple weeks ago. The primary question that you are asking is this: "Is it necessary to remove the other bolt to completely drain the system?" And the answer is a definite no. There are two reasons that I am confident saying this. 1) When I drain the oil with the bolt shown in this video (along with the filter bolt removed), the entire volume of oil comes out (or 99% of it). I know this because when I put the new oil in, it takes exactly 1.7 quarts (with the filter removed), which means that all of the oil was drained from that one bolt and the filter removal. 2) The second reason that I am confident removing just that one bolt and the filter is that the service manual clearly shows the bolt that must be removed with a picture, and it does not mention any other bolt. If you would like, I can take a screen shot and show you with a Google photo. I highly recommend purchasing the service manual. If you plan to do a lot of work on your bike, it will be a worthy investment. I wish my dad were interested in working on motorcycles when I was young. I didn't get to do much of this type of thing when I was young. There is a possibility that that bolt could help to drain some oil, and the service manual just did not mention it. This is a definite possibility because service manuals are notorious for leaving information out or providing wrong information, but most mechanics will go by the service manual. What other choice do we have? Also note that service manuals are different based on the printing that you get. I learned this when one of my subscribers showed me discrepancies between mine and his. One more note: I've actually seen videos where peoople say specifically not to remove that bolt. I don't think that it will hurt anything if you do remove it, but as far as I know there's no torque value given for installing it, so you probably should keep it in.
You take very good care of your bike and help me do the same, much appreciated. Cheers
Perfect! Thanks! ☺❤
Bruh my ninja 250r (2010) has a sticky throttle. I just got it yesterday and I can’t take off safely out of 1st. When I try to give it some gas while letting out the clutch slowly I kill it every single time. Once I get to second I can ride it just fine but it is incredibly dangerous to have a sticky throttle as a new rider. I’m not sure what to do to fix it. The previous owner said it was laid down on accident idk how fast but the right side does have damage so I’m thinking it’s because of that. I don’t know what to do to fix it. Anything would help. Thanks guys
exactly what i needed for my 650r thank u
thank you for the instructional video!
Or you can open the bolt and drain some oil
I just made a deposit on this bike today, the seller lied me that its 300 and the housing is also written 300. 😢
My fuel doesn’t drip it started pouring out so I put it back on now what lmao
Thanks to you, i could fix all my bike. this vids are awesome! explained into details. dont know how to thankyou any more. THANKS AGAIN!
Awesome
Unscrew drain bolt, drain. Close drain bolt. Open the rad cap and pour. Wait a second until it drops and pour more to the top. I just saved you two hours!
Thanks for your content man, your channel saved me a few hundreds bucks because it gave me the confidence to do my own valve adjustment
Thank you so much for the informative guide to adjusting valve clearance on a ninja 250. Your videos helped tremendously when I adjusted the valves on my own bike.
Wow I've looked at a few of your uploads and you my friend have made a awesome library of how to keep your ninja 250r on the road thankyou from all the ninja squids out there. I bought a little red ninja 250r off one of my customers 2 weeks ago it's a blast having ridin all kinds of bikes from 1 liter jap supers to Italian supers this is by far the most fun without feeling like I'm playing with my life. Thanks again
Just bought a 2012 250r so pumped gonna run a carb cleaner fuel mix cause the idle is a bit off but other than that it’s pretty nice. Anyone notice the heat rising on these? I’m thinking replacing the coolant with engine ice to see if it make a difference.
Gear shifter video plsssss🫡
Can you do a video on the gear shifter plssss 🙏
Thank you so much
Just imagine the first 30 seconds was the whole video that would be hilarious. Almost got me triggered 😂
I removed my spark plugs before having a new ones in hand + shops were closed so I had to wait to get them, so I put the caps on temporarily. Is anything bad gon happen :(
Not unless you let something fall into the engine. The caps will be fine in place.
I had plenty of leverage and the screw just turned into butter. I needed heat and an impact tool. Butane micro torch from did the trick for a few bucks. The red thread locker they use pretty much requires heat to break it down.
Good video. I find that a syringe and tubing (usually used to fill rear axles) is an easier way to remove excess oil.
From Australia. Really well done mate, very accurate.
FROM AUSTRALIA. Many thanks for your great report mate, I picked one up yesterday with 40,000km K, what a lovely machine!, she's still factory original, no issues at all, good to hear from someone who knows bikes. Thank you!
hey mate, getting a 2011 ninja as well. mileage at 55k kms. How is the bike doing so far.
You’re a god for making this channel
I saw multiple time some people broke the end of the cam shaft that you hold with the right hand 5:03 I think its better to loose the 8 cam shaft bolt + 4 cam chain guide bolt evenly to avoid damaging the end of that shaft, what do you think?
Makes sense. I think I did it that way when I first removed the shafts. But then I tried the way you see in the video because I thought it might make it easier to remove the exhaust shaft. The service manual doesn't really say specifically. Did you see people break the shafts on KZread or with your own eyes in a garage somewhere? Just curious.
@@ninja250motorcyclemaintena7 i saw on youtube 3x (but i lost track 2 of thoose 3 videos) and i also found in the marketplace someone sell the camshaft with broken end Here is the one that i still can found: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nHqtwcmpha_Ikc4.htmlsi=pnOgr9vLztG2GqDQ Minute 4:38
@@ninja250motorcyclemaintena7 it’s not the actual videos when they damaging it. (Sketchy Mechanic doesn’t want to show their fatal mistake on yt 😉) but there is a few evidence that there is a risk damaging those camshaft end if we not careful.
@@ninja250motorcyclemaintena7 hi, i just found the sequence of removing camshaft bolt in the service manual from 250R (Fi europe version) it’s actually the same engine except its Fi not carbureted. I put the link bellow

Can you please make a video on how to change the oil seal on the front shock absorber, thanks. Your videos are of great help.
I will do a video eventually, but probably not anytime soon. My seals don't have many problems. Thanks for the positive feedback.
@@ninja250motorcyclemaintena7 alright thanks a lot
Sir this was very informative and well edited, thank you
Hi there.. i have issue with turn signal indicator bulb. Exact same bike. Is this the same bulb as the fuel gauge bulb? Thanks
Yes. The meter/instrumentation bulb for the turn signal is exactly the same for the other meter/instrumentation bulbs.
@@ninja250motorcyclemaintena7 great! Thanks
I just bought a used 08 with 10k miles. I've had it less than a month but I'm loving it, just wondering if there are any inexpensive mods that are worth it.
The only mods that I would do are a fender eliminator kit (really difficult to install) and maybe folding mirrors because they are easier to adjust (don't know if these are available for the 250 though).
@@ninja250motorcyclemaintena7 Thanks for the tips, will look those up. Cheers!
thx man
ninja 250 2011 gen4 it is.
excellent analysis
If you dont mind me asking, i have a 10 year old battery and it is having trouble starting my bike, when would you recomend i get a new battery. Thank yiu.
I bought a new battery, but the battery wasn't the problem (it was the stator), so I recommend having a mechanic test your bike to make sure that the problem is not something else.
great video production
Thanks. Im changing a coolant hose on a ninja 250 on the side of the road in Indonesia that was useful.
i am learning from this video and try to maintenance my bike Thank you so much🙂👍👍❤❤❤
Great video thankyou just done a oil change on my first ever bike dont need no mechanic now 🤣
This video helped me so much. Thanks for taking the time to do it. Much appreciated.
My guy, the most difficult isn't difficult at all. why couldn't you just remove the caliper. That's a bit lazy.
As I just changed them both with just the side panel removed easy maintenance I can confirm this video is accurate
