    I'm a harley guy which means I do a lot of work on my bike as a youtube mechanic. Recently finding my self helping out a guy with his 2010 ninja 250R which has been real fun. THIS video is by far the best, most thorough instructional/step-by-step I've ever seen. Thanks so much for the effort in getting the right camera angles and narration inserted!

    This video is very helpful and thorough. I want to just drain my gas tank because it's been sitting for 6 years. What is the best way of draining. I'm afraid of removing the tubes and fuel start spilling out.

    My man on god I’ve got an 08 it’s my first bike and I’m sitting here in my garage at midnight taking it all apart to winterize it. Watching video after video and I must say yours was the most help. 👌🏻 taking the tank and fairings off to put some new ones on(old ones are factory from 08 and are all beat up) she’s gonna look nice in spring! But uh. I’ve got a question how should I empty my half tank of gas from the old tank?

  • @ninja250motorcyclemaintena7

    @ninja250motorcyclemaintena7

    I have never winterized a bike, but I believe you're supposed to fill the gas tank completely to prevent the inside from rusting and put gas preservative in so that the gas doesn't go stale.

    I've never done that, but I'm sure you could. All you have to do is use a coin to turn the slot on the fuel tap to PRI. Then the fuel will come rushing out.

    It's okay to remove the tank with fuel in it, but be careful. If fuel evaporates, it can become explosive.

    Also, don't tilt the tank forward because some fuel can come out of the tank, and don't turn the tank upside down or gas will enter passages it's not supposed to.

    You don't have to remove the fuel. Just be careful not to drop the tank because it's fairly heavy with fuel.

    Also, make sure your garage is well ventilated. If gasoline does evaporate out of the fuel tap, fuel vapor can explode violently, much more so than liquid fuel. I've never had a problem with this, but there's always a first for everything.

  • @ninja250motorcyclemaintena7

    Also, don't tilt the tank forward too much because fuel can come out of the tap, even when it's not on drain mode. And don't turn the tank upside down or fuel will go into passages it's not supposed to.

    I have a 1998 Kawasaki Ninja ex250. Any chance you know if any newer models 250's or higher fuel tanks will fit my bike? I'm trying to find a tank without spending $600-800 for brand new 250 tank. I've seen a few ex500 tanks on Ebay. I don't know if they will fit?

    Don't worry. Gasoline evaporates very quickly. Just be sure to work on the motorcycle with your garage open and with plenty of ventilation so the gas won't build up in your work space.

    Gasoline won't hurt the bike. The bike is designed to be rained on repeatedly. I have ridden my bike in the rain over a hundred times and left it overnight in the rain probably 30 times. It's okay.
