    I am in the middle of my valve clearance adjustment myself and am doing one valve at a time as ALL of the exhaust valves are tight... at only 5,500 miles on the bike ! the stamping on the shims can go in in either orientation as the bucket is the part that contacts the cam... and the shim is just a spacer.

    You don't need Moly on per-used parts just use regular motor oil on the valve bucket, and that is excessive amount of sealer you don't need that much

    Tobias Ovesen I'm not sure, but I think fuel injection is the only difference. My bike does have some California emissions equipment that other states in the US don't have.

    Just to add something I didn't see you doing here. It is a good idea in my opinion to stick a clean rag down in with the chain when you hang it up. Just so nothing accidentally falls down into the shaft. It also acts as a bit of a failsafe if you cut or break your tie wraps keeping the chain from falling to the bottom.

    empire00 I agree. In the video I advise the viewers to stuff a rag in the cam chain tunnel and explain that the only reason I didn't do this is that I didn't want anything to obstruct the camera view of the engine.

    So the 250cc Ninja uses Shim adjustment and not the screw type adjuster. Thats good knowledge.

    Sorry I'm confused Why the exhaust lifter are in one line as opposed to them being in different cylinders ? please respond

  • @ninja250motorcyclemaintena7

    @ninja250motorcyclemaintena7

    Each cylinder has four lifters, two exhaust (towards the exhaust pipe side of the engine), and two intake (towards the carburetor side of the engine). So they are on different cylinders. You said that the exhaust lifters are in one line. Well, half the line is cylinder one and the other half is cylinder two, same with the intake lifters.

    Do you just change the valves out of spec?

  • @ninja250motorcyclemaintena7

    @ninja250motorcyclemaintena7

    3 жыл бұрын

    You re-shim the valves out of spec. You don't replace them. But yes, you don't have to adjust the ones in spec. Usually the intake valves don't have to be adjusted, but you still have to inspect their clearances.

    I saw multiple time some people broke the end of the cam shaft that you hold with the right hand 5:03 I think its better to loose the 8 cam shaft bolt + 4 cam chain guide bolt evenly to avoid damaging the end of that shaft, what do you think?

  • @ninja250motorcyclemaintena7

    @ninja250motorcyclemaintena7

    Makes sense. I think I did it that way when I first removed the shafts. But then I tried the way you see in the video because I thought it might make it easier to remove the exhaust shaft. The service manual doesn't really say specifically. Did you see people break the shafts on KZread or with your own eyes in a garage somewhere? Just curious.

    So I got another question for you. If the space between the cam and bucket is getting smaller then that must mean the valve is not in its original position. I'm guessing carbon is building up making it unable to travel all the way. Why is it not necessary to pull the valves and clean them up. Not that I want to pull valves but I do want my bike to be running at it's very best. I'm not a big guy so I love the size of this bike but I find myself wishing I had more power. I'm amazed at what these lil engines do put out though. There's a grade by my house that takes you from about 1500 feet elevation to a mile high in like 4 or 5 miles and I can run 70mph up that with a passenger no problem. Faster by myself. Seems pretty good to me. Anyway got off track a lil, sorry

    I'm not sure but I think the wear is on the valve itself. I don't think it's something you can remedy by cleaning it. I guess the primary reason I don't get a bigger bike is that it's just not necessary. I'm not rolling in the dough and cannot afford to pay an extra $300-$400 every month just to go faster. I would get an R6 if I had a choice, but I am kind of interested in seeing just how reliable my 250 will be as the miles increase just to see exactly what it can do.
