I've got older style (maybe like late 90s early/mid 2000s ish) goalie shin pads with buckle straps cause 1 its what I learned on and 2 cause they're really all I could afford ($50 at play it again 😅) . But aye once I get my gloves Ima make them work.

I wanna thank you and anyone who has done this kinda thing before for doing this. I know personally having to stop playing due to not being able to afford it as a kid (for personal reasons I won't go into) really sucked. And while over the years I've gotten lucky finding solid deals gear at things like thrift stores or play it again and have a full player set now I still don't have a full goalie set which is the position I loved playing the most and wanna get back into. This kind of thing does absolutely help people who either wanna get into the sport ot get back into it. Its helping the future of the sport. I mean hell for all we know that donated gear could go to someone who ends up being the next Gretzky, Roy, Quick, and so many more. So from thr bottom of my heart thank you. Seeing stuff like this genuinely boosts my faith in people.

What my pads say about me is that I'm broke and got them at either thrift stores or play it again😂😅. I don't even have the gloves yet. But thats all I need to get back into it so its gonna happen.

started with just a dangler, then I got a neck guard, now I use no dangler but use the neck guard. in my opinion the neck guard is the more important of the two. you should wear both, even though I dont because the dangler restricts movement thanks to how big my chest protector is.

Crazy pucks can fracture polycarbonate. Trying to research toughness vs. temperature, it should not be impacted by low temps in the ice rink. Some more research I see the polycarbonate can become embrittled from the exposure to chemicals and uv radiation. You can find ballistic testing on youtube with straight polycarbonate material and it mostly deforms and does not crack, however the thickness is substantially different. Seems the thickness of the material polycarbonate is paramount to managing complete fracture failures from pucks hitting danglers.

One of my favorite quotes is from the great Jaques Plante who said his favorite "saves" were the shots that hit the posts because that meant he was playing his angles so well, that's the only thing the shooter could aim at.

I won't buy new skates. I just wore out my CCM 1252 Pro Tacks. First skates that needed baked. So I needed new skates. Found two pairs of not very used 1052s. They didn't need baked. I'm 47 and don't like the new stuff.

Ive been a goalie for about 40 years now. I had a teammate years ago tell me that when white pads started coming out with the fake 5 hole pattern on the front, he would get fooled into thinking there was more 5 hole showing and would shoot there.

I used to teach skiing (25 years or so). Started as a goalie at 55!!! With double hip replacements. I know, I’ve been called a lot of adjectives!!! I just wanted to relay my thoughts or your theoretical stills. In my view you’re a 10/10. The videos are clear as hell vs other coach that I’ve looked at. Probably much better goalies but lacking clarity I.e stand up vs butterfly!! He answers…just “because”. No explanations why!!! Really. Keep it up Francis LeGoalie Legault (out of Ottawa) Go Sens Go??

I may be insane, but I played defense for 7 years. I play goalie at the ODR, and that's about it, but I love it! It's fun! Anyways, up until recently, I've been using a player helmet, and a player neck guard. I bought an actual goalie helmet, and a dangler, but I'm keeping the player neck guard.

Thank you so much for this video!! My son is 10 and he’s behind the curve because he just started playing hockey. Most kids here in ND have been skating since they could walk. And he wants to try playing goalie! I played goalie when I played hockey so naturally I was stoked! So thank you! Gives me some hope for my son!
